Jamie Redknapp gives West Ham hope about David Moyes approach at Spurs - Hammers News
Description

West Ham are praying for a miracle from the Moyesiah when former manager David Moyes takes his Everton side to Spurs for the game which will decide the club’s Premier League survival.

There are nine possible outcomes when West Ham welcome Leeds and Tottenham Hotspur play Everton in the relegation shootout on the final day of the Premier League season this Sunday.

Only one of those outcomes will result in the Hammers staying up while the other eight see Spurs safe.

The permutations are very simple – West Ham must beat Leeds and hope Tottenham lose to David Moyes’ Everton.

Redknapp says Moyes will be furious and motivated at Spurs

Moyes twice saved West Ham from relegation in two spells as manager before completely turning the club around.

Hailed the messiah for the east Londoners, it earned the Scot the nickname the Moyesiah.

We NEED David Moyes’ help again! 🙏 Tell us your prediction for Tottenham vs Everton…

Everton's impressive away record gives us hope! 🤞

Now the Irons need a miracle from the Moyesiah at Tottenham.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The worry for West Ham is three-fold.

Everton are in dreadful form and were particularly poor in the 3-1 defeat to Sunderland last weekend.

As a result the Toffees no longer have European football to play for at Spurs.

Then there is the question of Moyes’ mentality and approach towards the game.

There was a touch of bitterness when Moyes aimed a dig at West Ham’s fans and owners ahead of Everton’s defeat at the London Stadium recently.

“Sometimes everybody wants a little bit more,” Moyes said at the end of that press conference.

Redknapp says West Ham have survival Sunday edge over Spurs

Many West Ham fans were fed up of the style of football under the Scot and wanted a more attack-minded, modern approach.

Hammers chief David Sullivan withdrew the contract he had offered Moyes when the man who ended West Ham’s 43-year wait for a major trophy made it clear he was unhappy at ceding power of veto on transfers to Tim Steidten – as well as the plan to remove his son David Junior from the scouting setup.

WE’RE STILL ALIVE 😍😍 How has Tottenham’s defeat made YOU feel about our survival chances?!

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! 😂

A minority handful of West Ham fans even brought a Moyes Out banner to some matches when results dipped.

So there is an argument seeing West Ham relegated would prove Moyes and his backers right in their warning ‘be careful what you wish for’.

But there has been some reassurance about the situation from a man who knows both West Ham and Spurs well.

Jamie Redknapp has given West Ham hope about how Moyes will approach the Spurs clash.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Tottenham’s defeat at Chelsea kept West Ham’s survival hopes alive, Redknapp believes the situation on the final day favours Nuno Espirito Santo’s side over Roberto De Zerbi’s men.

And he says Moyes will be going into the game furious and highly motivated.

“They (Spurs) are sleepwalking to relegation,” Redknapp said.

“The only thing that has saved them is a couple of good results. When I say good, they beat Wolves and Villa, who had seven out. Now have to find a way to win at home (against Everton). Their home form has been so bad this season.

“They’ve not had any quality, no character to win a match. Now they have Everton.

“David Moyes will be fuming after the weekend, and he’ll be going there thinking, ‘We’ve got to get something out of this game.’ I’d rather be playing Leeds than Everton.”

BBC have outlined four big implications of West Ham being relegated should Spurs pick up a result against Moyes’ boys.

De Zerbi has explained why people want West Ham to stay up over Spurs as the battle for survival goes down to the final day.

West Ham survival hopes boosted after James Maddison’s 'embarrassing' Tottenham confession - Hammers News
Description

West Ham have been given a second chance at Premier League survival following Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Tottenham.

The Hammers would have been relegated to the Championship if Spurs had earned just a point at Stamford Bridge.

Instead, the relegation battle will be decided on the final day as West Ham play Leeds and Tottenham host David Moyes’ Everton.

Even though Spurs are favourites to win, James Maddison’s latest comments suggest they are already feeling the pressure.

We NEED David Moyes’ help again! 🙏 Tell us your prediction for Tottenham vs Everton…

Everton's impressive away record gives us hope! 🤞

James Maddison labels Tottenham situation ‘embarrassing’ as West Ham watch on

Maddison was understandably disappointed after Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea, but his brutal verdict did not go unnoticed.

The Englishman described Spurs’ predicament as “unacceptable” and “embarrassing” in his interview with Sky Sports.

Maddison said, “It’s unacceptable and a little bit embarrassing that we’re in this position at Tottenham Hotspur, but it’s the reality, unfortunately. It’s up to us to get out of it, and Sunday is going to be a big day.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

“We need to repay [the fans] with a performance and some points on Sunday to secure Premier League survival. It’s non-negotiable, we have to [survive] for this club.”

Most Premier League fans would agree with his assessment, as Tottenham are expected to challenge for the European places.

However, it is unusual for a player to be so brutally honest with the media immediately after a game.

Maddison’s verdict suggests the Tottenham players are fully aware of how shocking it would be for them to be relegated.

This will only make them feel less relaxed in front of 60,000 nervous spectators when they play Everton on Sunday.

WE’RE STILL ALIVE 😍😍 How has Tottenham’s defeat made YOU feel about our survival chances?!

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! 😂

On the contrary, West Ham will head into their match against Leeds with nothing to lose, as they have already been handed a lifeline.

It would not be at all surprising to see Spurs attempt to hold on to a draw, which would be a risky game to play.

All West Ham fans can hope for is that Moyes does his former club another favour two years after his departure.

Roberto De Zerbi explains why people want West Ham to stay up over Spurs - Hammers News
Description

Many neutrals have been rooting for West Ham over Spurs in the battle for Premier League survival and Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi thinks he knows why.

West Ham lost their third game in a row at Newcastle to put bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the brink of Premier League safety at the weekend.

The Hammers could have piled the pressure on Roberto De Zerbi’s side if they had won, or even got a point, at St James’ Park.

But a dismal 3-1 defeat means Spurs will now secure survival if they pick up a point from games against Chelsea and Everton.

De Zerbi thinks he knows why fans want West Ham to stay up over Spurs

Tottenham go to Stamford Bridge, where they have a woeful record, on Tuesday night.

While most West Ham fans have come to terms with the fact relegation is now inevitable, many neutrals believe there is every chance Tottenham could lose both games and the Hammers beat Leeds on the final day to survive.

We are all but relegated — how would you feel about keeping Nuno in the Championship? 🧑‍💼

Or was that performance the last straw? 😡

If they lose at Chelsea, then it does indeed take the scrap for safety to the final day where, as many have been keen to point out, anything can happen.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Fans of other clubs have been rooting for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, hoping it will be Tottenham who drop.

And De Zerbi thinks he knows why.

But in trying to explain why he thinks people want Tottenham to be relegated over the Hammers, De Zerbi has given more ammunition to those who feel the north Londoners are deluded.

Because De Zerbi believes fans want to see Spurs suffer because they are among the biggest clubs around, suggesting they are a much larger fish than West Ham in the football food chain.

“I am Italian and in Italy, it’s the same,” De Zerbi told Football London.

De Zerbi: Fans want Spurs down because they’re bigger than West Ham

“For the biggest teams, it’s the same. We have to accept the pressure. We have to enjoy this pressure. We have to find new motivation from this pressure.

“I think it’s a good thing for us. If everyone wants Tottenham relegated, it’s a big motivation for me, and I hope for my players as well.

How do YOU feel about Jarrod Bowen as a West Ham United captain….

Clearly a legend but a few dissenting voices 👀

“We have to accept that football is nice because of the rivalry. It’s good to imagine ourselves celebrating the win in their (Chelsea’s) stadium. It’s the reason football is like this, no? It’s a motivation, it’s a challenge.

“If a challenge is tougher, it’s better for us to find new motivation and to be focused on staying together from the beginning to the end of the game.”

De Zerbi is clearly trying to foster a siege mentality at Tottenham to get his side over the line and relegate West Ham.

But in doing so he has figuratively patted ‘little old West Ham’ on the head and perhaps proved people who feel Spurs get above their station right.

Tottenham are a big club and have big revenues due to their stadium but they are no bigger than the Hammers in terms of fanbase.

And bar a few good years under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham have never done anything of note in the Premier League era.

They have been scrapping in the lower reaches of the top flight along with West Ham for the last two years.

So, bar income, what makes Tottenham ‘one of the biggest’ clubs around, as De Zerbi claims them to be?

His comments will only fuel the desire at West Ham for a final day miracle.

But that will only be made possible by a Chelsea win on Tuesday night.

Description

West Ham United striker Callum Wilson admits that Tottenham have kept them alive in the relegation battle.

Heading into the final two games of the season, West Ham and Tottenham are locked in a relegation shootout.

I’m going for Pablo to start – let me know YOUR thoughts 👇

Off the bench to score late again please 🫡

As it stands, Spurs have the advantage, but all of that could change if West Ham beat Newcastle on Sunday and their bitter rivals lose to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

That particular set of results – which would hardly be the biggest shocks in the world – would see the Irons overtake Spurs in the Premier League table.

Wilson has been speaking to West Ham’s official website about the relegation battle.

Wilson says Tottenham have kept West Ham alive in the relegation battle

Referring to Tottenham’s draw with Leeds on Monday he said: “Ultimately Tottenham’s result still leaves things quite open, so we have to go to Newcastle and try and get a result there.

“All you can do is take care of your own house and keep that in order, basically. If we get a result it puts pressure on Tottenham and then you get another result [against Leeds] and see where you end up.”

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Between 1-10, how would you rate West Ham’s survival chances if they beat Newcastle? 😬

Indeed, West Ham fans are starting to dream of Premier League survival after Tottenham drew with Leeds.

Clearly, Spurs are favourites to stay up at this stage and the point they picked up against Leeds actually put them further ahead of West Ham than they were when the 36th round of Premier League fixtures began.

Yet, it did still feel like a boost to a certain extent. West Ham looked despondent after losing to Arsenal on Sunday, with the prospect of Spurs going four points clear with two games to play weighing heavy on the mind.

The fact that the Irons could move ahead of their rivals with only one game left, then, is undoubtedly significant.

None of this will matter if West Ham fail to show up against Newcastle, of course.

Their recent away performances have simply not been good enough and a repeat of the timid outings fans had to watch at Crystal Palace and Brentford will not be tolerated.

There are genuine reasons to believe that West Ham can at least pick up three points on Sunday. That is not to suggest that they do not desperately need to improve, however.

Description

The stars might be aligning for West Ham in the relegation battle with Tottenham Hotspur as injury news emerges from Newcastle ahead of a huge clash on Sunday.

Spurs breathed new life into West Ham’s survival hopes when they could only draw with Leeds on Monday night.

It means the Hammers can jump back above Tottenham with a win at Newcastle.

West Ham would then be hoping Spurs’ dismal record at Chelsea continues when Roberto De Zerbi’s side go to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Spurs worry as Newcastle without five key stars for West Ham

West Ham may be facing Newcastle at a good time given Eddie Howe’s side have nothing but pride to play for in the final two games of the Premier League campaign.

Now there is further encouragement for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men ahead of the crucial trip to St James’ Park.

Between 1-10, how would you rate West Ham’s survival chances if they beat Newcastle? 😬

Because West Ham’s relief is Tottenham’s grief as Newcastle are hit by a triple injury blow.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The Hammers go to Newcastle with a fully-fit squad bar Adama Traore.

But Tottenham will be watching on with nerves jangling because Howe looks set to be missing five key players for what is a pivotal game in the relegation battle.

The quintuple blow will be music to the ears of Nuno and West Ham fans.

Firstly, Howe has confirmed Joelinton is a doubt after picking up a thigh issue and is rated at less than 50/50 for the clash with the Irons.

The Magpies boss has confirmed Tino Livramento is doing well in his recovery from his groin/hip/pelvic injury. But Howe says the swashbuckling full-back will not be risked in the final two games of the campaign.

Joelinton and Schar to miss Hammers while Gordon may not start

Spurs will be concerned by the fact key Newcastle defender Fabian Schar will also miss the West Ham match.

Speaking ahead of the game against the Hammers, Howe said he ‘doesn’t think Schar will make the last two games’.

Imagine you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Newcastle? 💭

Back four? Start Wilson? What would you do? 🤔

Howe said: “It is a real shame for him. He was close to returning a few weeks ago, and then he suffered the infection, which set him back. He is back running again and looking healthy, but there is a big difference between that and actually playing.”

Emil Krafth remains out with a knee injury and has played his last game for Newcastle after his departure at the expiration of his contract was confirmed this week.

Impressive youngster Lewis Miley will also miss the West Ham game and his season is over after Howe confirmed he slipped in training last week and suffered an injury which required surgery and will rule him out ‘for a few months’.

There could be another huge boost for the Hammers too because Howe has confirmed his reluctance to start top scorer Anthony Gordon is ‘partially’ with a view to the future amid rumours of a mega money summer move, possibly to Bayern Munich.

Newcastle clearly have plenty of other top players to hurt the Hammers and do Tottenham a big favour in the process.

And Howe has sent a message to Spurs about Newcastle’s clash with West Ham, making his stance clear on Premier League integrity.

There is a very credible scenario where West Ham could stay up over Spurs with four points from games against Newcastle and Leeds.

Indeed, one win would be enough if Tottenham lose to both Chelsea and Europa League chasing Everton.

West Ham head to Newcastle for what is a huge game in the battle for survival and Eddie Howe has a message for relegation rivals Spurs.

It is the final countdown in the Premier League relegation fight as West Ham and bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur face off in a straight shootout for survival.

Heading into the final two games, West Ham know they can go above Spurs and dump them into the bottom three with victory at Newcastle United on Sunday.

Tottenham then have a tough trip to Chelsea, where they have a dismal record, on Tuesday night.

Howe has message for Spurs and warning to West Ham

West Ham can pile pressure on Roberto De Zerbi’s side by beating Newcastle.

But Eddie Howe’s Magpies have rediscovered some form in recent weeks, taking four points from the last two games.

Between 1-10, how would you rate West Ham’s survival chances if they beat Newcastle? 😬

There is a major debate raging over the integrity of the Premier League relegation battle and fight for the title.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Aston Villa were accused of making a mockery of the battle to stay in the top flight when Unai Emery made seven changes to his side for a defeat at home to Tottenham.

Fans of not only West Ham but clubs across the country felt Emery’s changes for the 2-1 loss brought world’s best league into disrepute.

Officiating in games involving the Hammers and Tottenham has also come under the microscope.

West Ham have questioned the Premier League over the choice of officials for the Newcastle clash after they were involved in a major VAR offside mistake which cost Leeds what would have been a certain penalty in the 1-1 draw with Spurs on Monday night.

On the face of it, West Ham go to Newcastle at a good time as they have nothing to play for in the last two games.

Spurs relief as Howe vows Newcastle will go all out against West Ham

Many fans of Newcastle have quipped they want Howe to field a weakened team against the Hammers to help send Tottenham down.

But Howe has sent a message to Spurs about Newcastle’s clash with West Ham.

Imagine you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Newcastle? 💭

Back four? Start Wilson? What would you do? 🤔

And the Englishman has made it clear he won’t be doing a Villa when the Hammers roll up to St James’ Park.

Howe says he will be going all out to beat West Ham and described the game as ‘massive’ for Newcastle.

“The game is massive for us, the last home game of the season,” Howe said on Newcastle’s official website.

“We have trained hard and trained well.

“We need to do ourselves justice, we have to build momentum and confidence in what we are doing, the players will take these last two games into the summer with them.”

In truth, West Ham don’t have a leg to stand on over those Villa changes after what David Moyes did back in 2023.

If West Ham are relegated and Spurs survive, it won’t be because of Unai Emery or Eddie Howe – it will be the result of years of bad decision-making from the very top of the club, managerial mistakes and poor recruitment.

What the Hammers can rightly feel aggrieved about, though, is some of the refereeing decisions against their side of late.

The Premier League revealed this week West Ham should have had two penalties given in the defeat to Brentford.

There was the controversy over the Hammers’ equaliser against Arsenal being scrapped and a host of other big calls which have cost Nuno Espirito Santo’s side points.

West Ham must be prepared to face the best version of Newcastle.

The battle for Premier League survival has received some Royal attention after Prince William declared who he wants to stay up out of West Ham and Spurs.

West Ham and bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur are in a straight relegation shootout heading into the final two games of the Premier League season.

The Hammers looked dead and buried after the harsh 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, especially with Spurs playing Leeds at home 24 hours later.

But Tottenham breathed new life into West Ham’s survival hopes as they were fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw.

Prince William reveals he wants Spurs to stay up over West Ham

That means Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now know victory at Newcastle on Sunday will see them climb out of the drop zone and back above Tottenham with a game to go.

Spurs then have to go to bitter rivals Chelsea, where they have a terrible record.

Oh wow 👀 How has Tottenham’s draw with Leeds made YOU feel about the relegation battle?!

This weirdly feels like a boost?

West Ham end the season with a home game against Leeds while Tottenham entertain David Moyes’ European-chasing Everton.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

West Ham’s relegation odds are higher as things stand but that will change drastically if Nuno’s side can get a positive result at Newcastle.

Debate has raged over who will be the team to drop into the Championship.

Many fans of other Premier League clubs have voiced their backing for West Ham, hoping Tottenham will be the ones to go.

The general consensus as to why is largely due to a perceived arrogance and delusion at the size of the club and their place among the elite.

Although the fact Tottenham would be more of a threat to the European places long-term than West Ham would also undoubtedly be a factor.

Now one very high profile football fan has had his say on who he wants to survive.

Prince William goes against grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s beloved Hammers

Former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was appointed a CBE in the New Year Honours list for his services to charity and the community.

When receiving his honour this week, Levy met Prince William, perhaps the world’s most high profile Aston Villa fan.

What should West Ham do with Jarrod Bowen if they are relegated? 💭

Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle are interested… 👀

And Prince William revealed who he wants to stay up out of West Ham and Spurs.

It seems the Prince has gone against his grandmother, the great Queen Elizabeth II, because he told Levy he wants Tottenham to stay up not West Ham.

To rub salt in West Ham wounds, Levy revealed he thanked Prince William for Aston Villa’s part in helping Tottenham Hotspur secure a crucial win earlier this month when Unai Emery caused controversy by making seven changes to his side.

“I thanked him for allowing us (Spurs) to beat Aston Villa when we played them a few weeks ago,” Levy told the press in a rare interview at Windsor Castle, as broadcast by Sky Sports News.

“He wished us luck the rest of the season, very much hoping that Tottenham survive in the Premier League.”

What Queen Elizabeth II would have made of her grandson’s statement on the Premier League relegation battle would be interesting.

West Ham have a long and illustrious list of famous and celebrity fans.

None more famous than her Majesty the Queen, who passed away in 2022.

West Ham played a European game hours after the Queen’s death was announced and supporters paid a stirring tribute to her by replacing a planned minute’s silence with applause and several renditions of God Save The Queen and chants of ‘She’s one of our own’.

Queen Elizabeth II opened West Ham’s redeveloped West Stand at their former Boleyn Ground home in 2002.

The stadium was named after Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII, who was Queen between 1533 to 1536. The ground may now be gone but the famous pub bearing the same name endures to this day.

The Queen’s visit in May 2002 as part of her Golden Jubilee was no publicity stunt from the Hammers. That was one particular Royal duty the Queen would have relished having become a West Ham fan long before then.

While nobody is suggesting the Queen was glued to the TV watching every Hammers game – as much as we’d like to think that might have been the case – it is an immense source of pride for West Ham to know Elizabeth the Great was one of us.

Some sources have claimed that the much-loved monarch has backed West Ham United since as far back as the 1960s.

Her allegiance is believed to date back to her admiration for West Ham’s most successful manager, the late Ron Greenwood. She met him several times and awarded him the CBE in 1981. The Queen has also always had huge respect for the spirit of East Enders, who were repeatedly bombed by the Germans during the Blitz.

Her Majesty apparently revealed her love for West Ham when overhearing a staff member say he supported bitter rivals Millwall.

“The Queen has never wanted people to know who she supports because she wants to be seen as neutral,” a Windsor Castle source told The Daily Mirror in 2009.

“But she gave up her secret after overhearing one of her staff members saying he was a Millwall fan and was talking to another member of staff about the derby between West Ham and their arch rivals.

“They were quite shocked – after all, she’s not exactly your typical West Ham fan.”

Speaking following Wednesday’s investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle Levy said he felt “emptiness” at Tottenham’s league position, but insisted he remained “optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League” over West Ham.

Asked if he saw any signs the club would end up in a relegation scrap, he added “never, no, not in a million years”.

Description

West Ham United are piling pressure on the Premier League after officials behind a hugely controversial Spurs incident were put in charge of the club’s crucial clash with Newcastle.

The straight relegation shootout between West Ham and bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur has taken a stunning new twist.

It looked like the Hammers were all but doomed to demotion from the Premier League after the harsh and massively controversial 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

That result gave Tottenham the chance to put a four-point gap between themselves and West Ham when they faced Leeds on Monday night.

West Ham lodge formal complaint to Premier League over officiating

But Spurs were fortunate to come away with a 1-1 draw against the Elland Road outfit, breathing new life into West Ham’s survival hopes.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now know victory at Newcastle on Sunday will see them climb out of the drop zone and back above Spurs with a game to go.

How do you feel about the decision now the VAR audio has been released? 😬

What was the correct decision? Goal, no goal or penalty? 🤔

The onus will then be on Tottenham to get a result away at fierce rivals Chelsea, where they have a dismal record.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

There is even a scenario where West Ham could stay up with just one win from their last two games against the Magpies and Leeds.

West Ham are far from happy with the Premier League ahead of the Newcastle game, though.

With ramifications for the title and relegation battle, West Ham’s game against Arsenal was hands down the biggest single match of the Premier League season.

It certainly lived up to its billing with high drama, culminating in what’s been billed as the most controversial decision in the history of VAR after its intervention in disallowing Callum Wilson’s late equaliser.

There was then further VAR controversy when Tottenham faced Leeds 24 hours later.

West Ham pile pressure on as Spurs officials named for Newcastle clash

Tottenham survived a very questionable VAR offside call when the graphic used to justify the decision did not match the actual footage that appeared to show Dominic Calvert-Lewin was actually played onside before being fouled for what would have been a certain penalty to Leeds.

West Ham fans watching on were understandably furious given what has transpired in their game the day before.

Oh wow 👀 How has Tottenham’s draw with Leeds made YOU feel about the relegation battle?!

This weirdly feels like a boost?

They were the latest in a long line of questionable decisions and VAR interventions involving the Hammers.

And West Ham have now questioned the Premier League as the officials who were in charge for the controversial Spurs vs Leeds clash were handed West Ham’s crunch match at Newcastle.

West Ham are lodging an official complaint to the Premier League and the PGMOL over the disallowed goal that has pushed them closer to relegation and helped swing the title race in favour of Arsenal.

Hammers News understands club chiefs are ‘livid’ that the officials needed more than four minutes to cancel the goal, stating it could not therefore have been a ‘clear-and-obvious error’.

The Hammers are concerned about what they feel has become a pattern of big decisions impacting the team.

That’s after West Ham were denied a clear penalty at Brentford and saw an own goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos allowed to stand despite an obvious and dangerous foul on the centre-back before he put through his own net.

There have even been whispers West Ham could consider suing the Premier League if they are relegated.

The mood at the London Stadium will not be improved by the Premier League’s choice of officials for West Ham’s next game against Newcastle.

Jarred Gillet and Craig Pawson have been appointed to the crunch clash on Sunday.

Gillet was the referee for Spurs’ draw with Leeds, whilst Pawson was on VAR for the game.

The pair will assume the same roles on the weekend.

It will be the 10th time Gillet has taken charge of a West Ham game and the fourth this season, having – rather ironically – refereed both fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur.

To rub salt in the wound for West Ham, Pawson will be on VAR duties at Stockley Park just two weeks after refereeing the incident-filled defeat at Brentford.

West Ham have been given the kiss of life in the battle for survival with Spurs and there was another boost from arch rivals Millwall too.

The Hammers have been written off as relegation certainties since the harsh defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

But West Ham now have fresh hope of survival after brilliant Leeds held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw in north London on Monday evening.

Things could have been even better for West Ham because Spurs were extremely fortunate not to lose the game.

West Ham can climb out of relegation zone with a game to go

Tottenham survived a very questionable VAR offside call when the graphic used to justify the decision did not match the actual footage that appeared to show Dominic Calvert-Lewin was played onside before being fouled for what would have been a certain penalty to Leeds.

The Elland Road outfit did West Ham and the Premier League proud, though, restoring some much needed integrity to the division with a fantastic display as they responded brilliantly to going 1-0 down.

How worried should West Ham be about SUCCESSIVE relegations? 📉

Sunderland and Leicester went from the Prem to League One in 12 months…

Calvert-Lewin may have been denied a penalty in the first half but he got his chance after the break when Spurs goalscorer Mathys Tel scissor-kicked Ethan Ampadu in the head in the box.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Calvert-Lewin, turned down by then West Ham boss Graham Potter on a free last summer, made no mistake from the spot.

Leeds then took the game to Spurs and twice went agonisingly close to getting a deserved winner.

The match finished 1-1 after 13 added minutes, which increases Tottenham’s gap on West Ham to two points with two games to play.

Ahead of the game, Hammers News outlined the minor Spurs miracle West Ham needed to stay in the Premier League.

Part one of that miracle has come in for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers.

West Ham’s monumental boost from fiercest rivals Spurs and Millwall

West Ham now know that they can climb out of the relegation zone and above Tottenham with a win at Newcastle on Sunday.

That would pile pressure on shaky Spurs when they head to fierce rivals Chelsea two days later.

Nothing can change now – but what do YOU want to hear from the PGMO?! 😳

I want to know why Rice on Dinos was ignored! 😡

Tottenham have a terrible record at Stamford Bridge.

Another defeat there for Spurs would then leave West Ham in control of their own destiny heading into the final day against Leeds.

Meanwhile Roberto De Zerbi’s side host David Moyes’ European chasing Everton and West Ham will be hoping for a big favour from their former boss.

Tottenham’s draw was not the only huge boost for the Irons on Monday night.

Because the ignominy of being replaced in the Premier League by Millwall is no longer a concern for West Ham if they do end up dropping.

West Ham’s arch rivals Millwall just missed out on automatic promotion from the Championship.

Their reward for finishing third was to face sixth-placed Hull City, who snuck into the play-offs on the final day.

After a 0-0 draw away at Hull on Friday night, Millwall were favourites to get the job done in London on Monday night.

But the Lions lost 2-0 to crash out yet again.

That means if West Ham are relegated there will at least be the prospect of renewing rivalries with Millwall in the second tier to look forward to.

For now, though, there is still life in West Ham’s survival hopes.

West Ham could even stay up with just four points if Spurs do not win at least one of their remaining two games.

Things just got interesting again – it’s game on in the relegation battle, now West Ham must step up to the plate.

Just a couple of weeks ago West Ham had closed a 13-point gap on Tottenham to climb above them and out of the drop zone.

Spurs were favourites for the drop having not won a game all year.

Spurs miracle West Ham need to stay up is improbable but not impossible

While highly improbable, it is not impossible for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to stay up at Tottenham’s expense.

But results mean West Ham now need a minor Spurs miracle to stay in the Premier League.

Here’s what needs to happen for the Hammers to stay up.

Tottenham welcome Leeds to north London on Monday night.

West Ham may have put one of the final nails in their own coffin ahead of that game because their defeat to Arsenal has officially made Leeds safe.

The Hammers will be hoping Leeds aren’t on the beach for the trip to Spurs because they need the Elland Road outfit to hold the hosts to at least a draw.

How Hammers can still survive with a win and a draw in final two

A defeat for Tottenham is obviously the ideal scenario for West Ham.

But a draw would still give the Hammers hope heading into the last two games.

What sort of role should Potts and Magassa play next season?

Do you still have faith in the young duo?

Should Spurs fail to beat Leeds, West Ham would then know that a win at Newcastle next Sunday would lift them out of the relegation zone above De Zerbi’s side.

That would pile pressure on Tottenham ahead of their own difficult trip to face fierce rivals Chelsea, where they have a woeful record, on the Tuesday.

If Spurs lose to Leeds, then even a draw at Chelsea would not be enough to lift them back above the Hammers should they emerge victorious at St James’ Park.

Two draws for Spurs would give them the advantage as they have a vastly superior goal difference.

If Spurs only pick up one point from Leeds and Chelsea and West Ham beat the Magpies, it will be Nuno’s side in control of their own destiny heading into the final day.

The Hammers host a Leeds side with little but pride to play for at the London Stadium while Tottenham welcome European-chasing Everton to north London.

It is not unthinkable that David Moyes’ Toffees could turn Tottenham over or at least hold them to a draw.

So if West Ham can beat Leeds to reach 42 points then that could make them safe.

If Spurs draw two and lose one of their last three matches and West Ham pick up at least one win and one draw from their final two then the Hammers would survive.

It may look all but done but so much rides on Tottenham’s clash with Leeds.

There is of course a flip side to all of this that could see West Ham relegated at Newcastle.

If Spurs beat Leeds and West Ham lose to Eddie Howe’s side then it is done.

Now all eyes turn to Leeds and whether they can do the Hammers the biggest of favours.
