Frank reveals Van de Ven and Spence came to his office to apologise after snub - thesun.co.uk
Description

MICKY VAN DE VEN and Djed Spence have said sorry for blanking Thomas Frank after Saturday’s shocker against Chelsea.

Stand-in captain Van de Ven, 24, and England star Spence, 25, walked past Frank after the final whistle, snubbing their manager’s plea to applaud the fans for their support.

It was a striking image after the dismal 1-0 defeat, with Frank helplessly looking back at the pair for a number of seconds as they stormed off down the tunnel.

Speaking ahead of tuesday night’s Champions League hosting of FC Copenhagen, Frank revealed: “Micky and Djed came into my office yesterday, unprompted, and just said: ‘I want to say sorry for the situation.’

“They didn’t want it to look bad or disrespectful or all of the kind of perceptions you can get in this beautiful media world.

“That was not the intention at all towards me or the team or the club. They were just frustrated with the performance, the loss and the booing during the game.”

The flash point came after Spurs fans booed the team DURING the match against Chelsea, during which Tottenham registered their lowest-ever xG 0.05 since records began in 2012.

That statistic refers to the amount of goals a team is expected to score in a match, and it was the worst return of any Premier League side this season.

Van de Ven and Spence, who missed training with a knock but should be available this evening went in separately to see Frank.

The Dane added: “Of course I’m happy (they came to see him), because I knew the question would come today, that they were coming in.

BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS

“And that means they care. I think that’s very good. They care about the team, the club. In this case, me. I’m happy with that. So that was very good.

“Then we just had a good talk about a lot of things. And like with everything, we keep it internally.

“Like I said to the players when I said that before, it will be very, very, very unusual if I ever throw a player under the bus. We’re all humans, but I’ll always protect them.”

The frustration emanating from the stands was vocalised with boos at half-time and full-time by supporters, as well as in the final few minutes of the action itself with Tottenham struggling to create a chance, let alone score an equaliser.

Frank said he understood the supporter reaction but urged for the crowd to stick with his side to help them in similar situations.

The ex-Brentford boss added: “The fans were fantastic the first 30 minutes and after the game if we perform badly and on top of that we lost the game, more than fair enough they boo us.

“But during the game, we need a little bit of help.

“And especially when it’s not going the right way. They can be the turning point. We are down 1-0 last 15, imagine they carry us over the line. We got a little of an unfair 1-1, what a feeling. That point can be the difference in a long season.”

Spurs have lost three of their seven games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with the only thoroughly convincing display coming at home to Burnley on the opening day.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario revealed the team had talked through what happened against Chelsea and echoed his manager’s call for fans to keep up their support until the final whistle.

The Italian added: “Of course, we have spoken.

“I think probably in some moments during the game… probably when we are chasing, we need to be a little more cool heads and if we have a little bit more help from some situations coming from the stands it could be, of course, better.”

Tottenham vs Wolves preview

Wolves arrive in north London hoping their status as Tottenham's undisputed 'bogey team' can help them clinch their first points of the season.

Vitor Pereira’s side have remarkably won four of their last five meetings against Spurs and have lost just two of their last eight Premier League visits to Tottenham.

That statistic makes for encouraging reading for the visitors - unlike the league table.

Wolves are still pointless after their opening five league matches and risk joining just three other sides in Premier League history to have lost their first six games of a campaign.

A good start would be crucial for the division’s 20th-placed side, who have trailed at half-time in each of their last nine Premier League matches.

There is, however, some cause for optimism. Wolves picked up a morale-boosting Carabao Cup win over Everton in midweek, and their two away defeats in the league this season - against Bournemouth and Newcastle - both came by narrow 1-0 margins.

As for Tottenham, they’ll be hoping for more of the same from a side that currently sit third in the table.

Spurs have taken 10 points from their five Premier League games under Thomas Frank so far - double the total they earned from their final 12 matches under Ange Postecoglou.

That said, there’s still room for improvement. Frank’s side have scored 10 goals from an expected goals tally of just 6.1 - with only Liverpool having overperformed their xG more this season.

Should the goals dry up, though, Spurs can lean on a solid defence. They’ve kept five clean sheets in their opening seven games in all competitions.

Tottenham vs Wolves preview betting tips and predictions

Goal crazy?

A flurry of goals seems unlikely in Saturday night’s contest.

Wolves have conceded just two goals on the road this season - and those came against free-scoring Newcastle and Bournemouth, despite facing a combined xG of only 0.97, the lowest of any side in the Premier League.

As mentioned, Tottenham have been over performing their expected goals so far - and fatigue could also be a factor, with this their fourth game in just 14 days.

Carded

We're backing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes to receive a booking in Saturday evening’s clash - available at 21/10 with William Hill.

The combative Brazilian, 24, has shown no hesitation in putting himself about, committing 12 fouls in just 450 minutes of Premier League action - the third-highest tally in the division. That aggressive approach has already earned him three yellow cards in just seven appearances.

Notably, over two-thirds of those fouls have come on the road, and with Wolves still hunting their first points of the season, expect Gomes to be in the thick of it once again.

How Tottenham team could look after £4.5bn takeover and huge transfer spree with Cole Palmer and Harry Kane - thesun.co.uk
Description

TOTTENHAM could line up with a bold new look following a world record £4.5billion takeover.

SunSport can exclusively reveal that a US consortium has lodged a stunning offer for the Londoners.

The 12-man group is headed up by tech entrepreneur Brooklyn Earick.

While the consortium includes NFL and NBA investors ready to offer £3.3bn, as well as £1.2bn for player fees, wages and agent payments.

Spurs are in a healthy position with PSR.

And should the takeover go through, they could embark on a major spending spree under Thomas Frank.

Indeed, as many as SIX new faces could come into Tottenham’s starting XI from January.

In defence, the Londoners could decide to take advantage of Marc Guehi’s situation at Crystal Palace.

The centre-back is out of contract next summer and saw a deadline day move to Liverpool collapse.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven make for a fine partnership, but they are both prone to injury.

BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS

Guehi’s quality, reliability and prestige as an England international would make him a no-brainer, while the transfer fee would be relatively cheap given he would have just six months remaining on his contract from January.

Elsewhere in defence, Spurs could be tempted into a bold move for Chelsea captain Reece James.

The versatile defender continues to be dogged by fitness issues and is unable to command a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea would love to keep James around, but a lucrative bid would make their owners think twice — especially given that the right-back is a club-grown player and represents pure profit.

Further up the field, a new midfielder would likely be on Frank’s agenda.

And Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong could fit the bill, having been a major Spurs target several years ago.

His technical ability and vision is exactly what Tottenham are missing in the heart of the side.

And Barcelona are always up for a big-money sale to balance their books.

Here's how SunSport broke the exclusive story about the shock takeover bid:

Former DJ launches world-record £4.5BILLION bid to buy Tottenham with US consortium

Meet tech entrepreneur Brooklyn Earick behind the Spurs takeover bid

Tottenham could genuinely become Premier League winners after £4.5bn takeover

However, it’s in the final third where things could become exciting.

Mohamed Kudus has already hit the ground running after his move from West Ham.

And Spurs could look to support him by launching a ground-breaking move for Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer.

Reports suggest the England ace is feeling unsettled with his role under Enzo Maresca.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ new owners would love to make a massive statement signing.

And what better way to announce yourself on the world stage by poaching one of your biggest rival’s star players?

Elsewhere, Tottenham could also splash the cash by moving for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

He has arguably not been the same player ever since last year’s Ballon d’Or controversy where he lost to Man City’s Rodri.

New Real boss Xabi Alonso has moved to a winger-less system, with Kylian Mbappe now the main man in attack.

And Vinicius could fancy trying his luck in England while also retaining his massive pay package.

Finally, Tottenham’s takeover could be sealed by the glorious return of Harry Kane.

There were no hard feelings when he left for Bayern Munich, and the England captain has become an even deadlier striker during his time in Germany.

Tottenham are understood to have a buy-back clause from next summer.

And with Bayern increasingly heading in a new direction under Vincent Kompany, Kane could feel the time is right to return and lead his boyhood club to new heights.

'I'll skip lunch' - Spurs star Dejan Kulusevski shocks fans after posting horror picture of knee op after injury update - thesun.co.uk
Description

DEJAN KULUSEVSKI has left fans "traumatised" after sharing a gruesome picture of his knee surgery.

The Tottenham Hotspur star went under the knife in an operation on his knee.

Kulusevski, 25, is one of half a dozen crocked stars in Thomas Frank's squad.

To boost his attempts to return to the pitch, he had surgery on his kneecap.

He suffered the injury back in May during the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Former manager Ange Postecoglou initially described the issue as a knock before it was revealed that he needed surgery.

Kulusevki has now shared a gruesome picture from the op, which shows the inside of his knee.

He posted the snap on Instagram for his 1.3milllion followers.

He captioned the post: "Warning for sensitive content. Thank god it happened so I could see it clear."

Fans were left horrified by the snap and flooded the comment section to let the Swedish international know it.

A third commented: "Bro where’s the nsfw warning?"

A fourth said: "Thanks Dejan, I’ll skip lunch today."

Another added: "Great recovery baller, back better then ever."

He has given an update on his potential return to the pitch as he travelled to Sweden's international break camp.

He told Viaplay: "The status is good. The rehab is going well.

"Every day I wake up with the same hunger and even more hunger with each passing day.

"The status is very good, and I will be on a football field in the very, very near future.

"If everything goes as it should, as it has so far, I am very confident that I will be on the field in two to three months."

Kulusevski will not feature until at least December but will not be able to play in the Champions League league phase.

‘Real Tottenham player’ – Jack Grealish tipped for shock Spurs transfer by manager they could meet in Champ... - thesun.co.uk

ROBBIE KEANE has urged Spurs to sign Jack Grealish - because he is “a real Tottenham player”.

England star Grealish, 29, has no future at Manchester City after being frozen out by Pep Guardiola.

Everton are among the clubs considering a move for the former £100million man, but former Spurs man Keane wants his old club to win the race.

Speaking to bookmakers betway, the 44-year-old said: “I love Jack.

“I think he’s a wonderful football player, and he’s a real Tottenham player with the way he plays and moves on the pitch.

“I really think that he could fit into the Tottenham team, whether he plays on the left, as a high No. 8 or as a No. 10. I’d definitely be hoping for that move to happen.”

Keane, who is manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros, believes Spurs need at least “two or three” new signings, prioritising a holding midfielder.

Should Cristian Romero leave, then another centre-back would also be on Keane’s shopping list.

Thomas Frank wants another winger and is very keen on both Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace and his old Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who netted 20 goals last season.

Former Liverpool and Leeds star Keane added: “Bryan Mbeumo is one who I think could come and fit in well.

“He’s had a good season, scored some goals and got some assists, and now has teams like Man Utd looking at him.

"I’d expect him to do very well at Spurs.”

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to undergo huge change during the summer transfer window.

And the club have made initial contact for the star signing of Viktor Gyokeres this summer!

Weeks after beating United in the Europa League final, Spurs are looking to deal another blow to Utd, as they attempt to HIJACK their move for Bryan Mbeumo.

Elsewhere, Rasmus Hojlund is not thinking about leaving the club this summer despite links to Italy.

In other news, Jadon Sancho is a potential target for Al-Hilal.

Academy star's emotional goodbye

Outgoing centre-back Jack Kingdon has thanked everyone associated with United.

Kingdon was one of ten players released on Monday, and one of the six academy stars on the list.

He spent five years at United after joining the club as a 15-year-old from Morecambe.

The centre-back, who will turn 20 in November, was a regular fixture for the club's Under-18s and Under-21s during his time at Old Trafford.

Defensive reinforcements

United have joined a host of clubs looking at Udinese defender Oumar Solet.

The Mirror claims that Juventus, West Ham, Inter Milan and Napoli have also been watching the French centre-back this summer.

Udinese are thought to want more than £30m for their defender.

Gyokeres 'furious' with Sporting

According to reports, Viktor Gyokeres has been left "furious" with Sporting because the club have been demanding €80m (£67m) for him.

Previously, Sporting agreed that they would ask for £50m plus £8m in add-ons this summer.

The Swedish striker has allegedly removed Sporting's name from his Instagram bio.

Semenyo interest

United remain admirers of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.

Tottenham have also stepped up their interest in the player.

Semenyo is also on the list at Liverpool this summer and is believed to favour playing for a Champions League club.

Elsewhere, United had a bid rejected for Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo.

They are expected to follow up with another offer.

Bayern drop Kim Min-jae price

Kim Min-jae is attracting interest from Liverpool, Newcastle United and Chelsea, cites Caught Offside.

Bayern’s asking price for Kim has dropped from around €50 million to more like €35 million.

Football 365 also reports that Man United are one of the six 'offered' the North Korean defender.

Min-jae has fallen down the centre-back pecking order in Bavaria since arriving from Napoli in 2023, with Eric Dier usurping him in the ranks amongst Vincent Kompany and his coaches.

Bayern drop Kim Min-jae price

Long-time Man United target Kim Min-jae is attracting interest from Liverpool, Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Bayern’s asking price for Kim has dropped from around €50 million to more like €35 millon.

Football 365 cites that Man United are also one of the teams ‘offered’ the North Korean defender.

After a Scudetto-winning season with Napoli in 2023, Min-jae moved to Bayern with promise and expectation but has failed to live up to the desired level in his two seasons at the club, with Eric Dier usurping him in the centre-back ranks amongst Vincent Kompany and his coaches.

Post/pre-season preparations underway for Heaven

Talking about Ayden Heaven...

The Man United centre-back may not be on the training ground, but is still getting in his work when he can.

After picking up a serious leg injury in March, Heaven was able to recover towards the end of the season and join the team on their post-season tour to Asia.

The former Arsenal academy player has enjoyed a relatively productive season at Old Trafford and will look to build on that in Ruben Amorim's first full season in charge.

Man United needs and wants

After Bryan Mbeumo, Man United still want to sign a striker, a centre midfielder and a goalkeeper, the Guardian reports.

As we've bought to you today, Gyokeres and Ter Stegen are the latest names being linked to the forward and goalkeeper position, respectively.

Whilst, the midfield targets remain unknown.

Other reports have stated that the club is aware of needed reinforcement at the centre-back area, with the security of options aside from Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven, undecided.

Man United make Gyokeres approach

Manchester United have made an initial bid for Sporting attacker Viktor Gyokeres, according to similar Sky Sports News sources that have reported on Mbeumo.

United are exploring the terms of a possible agreement.

Having managed Gyokeres at Sporting, head coach Ruben Amorim has a great deal of respect for him.

Regardless of what happens to Rasmus Hjolund, United is still looking for a striker.

The Danish international stated that he will compete for his spot next season and has no plans to leave the team despite links to Inter.

Man United 'optimistic' on Mbeumo deal

Manchester United are expected to go back in with an improved offer for Bryan Mbeumo and remain optimistic a deal can be struck, Dharmesh Sheth of Sky states.

Despite reports suggesting Thomas Frank will try and tempt Bryan Mbeumo to go to Spurs if he takes over as their new head coach, it’s understood the player wants to join United.

Ter Stegen demanding payoff to facilitate exit

More from the developing Ter Stegen news...

The German international is demanding that Barcelona pay up his entire salary of €42M to leave the club, Diario SPORT reports.

His contract runs out in 2028, but Barça only want to pay him one-year's salary to terminate his deal.

Man United fans have been here before, as the story below will testify to.

'I will sign a new contract' - De Jong

Given that his current contract with Barcelona is about to expire next summer, midfielder Frenkie de Jong is certain he will sign a new one with the team.

“I think I will sign a new contract, but you can never say that with a hundred per cent certainty. If everything goes well, then it will happen,” the United target told Dutch outlet Voetbalzone.

“They want it and I want it, so normally you can work it out.”

Ter Stegen under United consideration

According to TEAMtalk via ESPN, Manchester United is considering a deal for Marc-André ter Stegen, the long-term goalkeeper for Barcelona.

Following André Onana's recent problems in goal, the team is reportedly looking into other keeper alternatives.

TeamTalk claims that Chelsea is also monitoring Ter Stegen, who just made his first-team comeback at Barça after a protracted injury absence.

Since joining the Spanish team in 2014, Ter Stegen has played in 291 La Liga games.

Palhinha intrest

Head coach Rúben Amorim wants to add a midfield player this summer, even though United's first priority has been to acquire new offensive players.

Matheus Cunha has joined, and Bryan Mbeumo should follow shortly.

According to reports from late last week, the club had expressed interest in João Palhinha, the defensive midfielder for Bayern Munich and another player from Portugal's Nations Legaue-winning team.

He did not, however, appear in the final.

The midfielder who Bayern acquired from Fulham for £46 million last summer is reportedly being pursued by United, but they are ready to let him go for £25 million because he was unable to adjust in Germany under Vincent Kompany.

ICYMI

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have won a trophy!

Despite their dismal club season, the Portuguese pair were triumphant in the Nations League as Fernandes captained Portugal to a win on penalties against Spain after Cristano Ronaldo went off after his equaliser in the second half.

Premier League rivals circle around Garnacho uncertainty

TyC Sports journalist Gastón Edul has produced a stunning revelation on Alejandro Garnacho's future.

In a talkshow stream interview, Edul said:"There are two Premier League teams that showed interest in him. Which ones? Chelsea and Arsenal."

Saudi chase Sancho

Jadon Sancho is wanted by Al-Hilal after missing out on Victor Osimhen, Foot Mercato states.

The English winger has had his obligated buy clause not taken up by Chelsea, and returns to Manchester United under a cloud of uncertainty.

Donnarumma in Manchester sights

Renovation is firmly underway for both Premier sides in Manchester as the pair looks to revamp his squad after respective underwhelming season.

City are in talks with numerous players after a busy winter window as the same intention continues into the summer.

Whilst, United have gone into full-rebuild mode: no one is safe and every market opportunity will be considered.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is set for talks with PSG over a new contract amid interest from Manchester United and Manchester City, L’Équipe reports.

The Champions League winning goalkeeper contract in Paris expires next summer.

All eyes on United, not Inter says Højlund

Rasmus Højlund's stagnated second season at Old Trafford has caught significant scrutiny.

Højlund, 22, notched four goals in the Premier League - which is down on his league tally from his debut season the year prior.

The Dane striker says he is not thinking about leaving Manchester United, despite being linked with a move to Inter Milan, talkSPORT states.

Morning reading

Includes more on Ronaldo's future

Ronaldo in tears

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo scored and then broke down in tears as Portugal won the Nations League.

CR7 scored a 61st minute equaliser to make the score 2-2 against Spain.

It eventually forced penalties and Portugal won 5-3, with Alvaro Morata the only player to miss in the shootout.

Ronaldo could not watch the spot-kicks, hiding behind ex-United pal Diogo Dalot.

And when Ruben Neves converted the winner, the 40-year-old collapsed to the ground in tears.

Donna summer move may be hot stuff

PSG hero Gianluigi Donnarumma is amazingly being linked with interest from Manchester United, Man City or Real Madrid.

That's the claim tonight amid reports the new Champions League winners have made their first-choice keeper a take-it-or-leave-it offer to extend his contract.

Donnarumma, 26, is one of PSG's star men and has already won 73 Italian caps.

French outlet L’Equipe say the former AC Milan ace has been discussing a possible move to the Prem with his Azzurri squad-mates.

The two United giants have been mentioned, but Real are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Donnarumma certainly didn't quell speculation after PSG's 5-0 final romp against Inter Milan.

He said: “New deal or leaving? We will see what happens… I don't know."

Red Devils 'eye Samu'

Samu Aghebowa is emerging as a potential strike target for Manchester United.

Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokepres are the frontmen most tipped as options to follow in Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.

But CaughtOffside claim Porto's twice-capped Spaniard Aghebowa, 21, is now a serious target for Premier League giants.

And that reportedly includes Ruben Amorim's United.

'Cunha & Mbeumo' ' ideal for Red Devils

An Old Trafford legend claims Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are perfect for Manchester United's shake-up.

Brazil attacker Cunha has arrived from Wolves, while United are reportedly battling Tottenham for Brentford striker Mbeumo.

Former England and Red Devils defender Gary Pallister believes the duo's top-flight pedigree is ideal - after Prem newcomers like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled.

Palister told compare.bet: "Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are both fantastic players.

"Manchester United haven’t had that threat up front with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having their struggles.

"Mbeumo and Cunha have already done it in the Premier League and they know exactly what it’s all about.

"The size of the club might need acclimatising to, but they're ready made for the Premier League.

They're well aware of everything that's going to be expected of them... and it's probably just what United need right now to give them a threat."

MANOR SOLOMON is set to be given a second chance at Tottenham.

The Israeli winger, 25, has become a forgotten man in N17 after spending the season on loan at Leeds.

But he proved to be a huge hit at Elland Road, netting ten goals in 41 appearances as he helped the Whites to promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds are keen to sign him permanently, while there are believed to be other suitors in the Premier League interested in Solomon’s services.

But SunSport understands the North Londoners are minded to bring him back into the first-team fold over pre-season with the ambition of keeping him next season.

That is despite all the uncertainty around the managerial position at Tottenham.

Former Fulham loanee Solomon joined Tottenham on a free transfer in 2023.

That is after he left Shakhtar Donetsk following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine the year before.

His first campaign was blighted by a hamstring injury, limiting him to just six Spurs appearances.

Solomon's last game for Tottenham was back in September 30, 2023.

Now everyone at Spurs are currently waiting with baited breath over whether Daniel Levy will back or sack boss Ange Postecoglou.

It is understood the latter is more likely, despite the Aussie delivering Spurs their first trophy in 17 years with last month’s Europa League triumph.

Thomas Frank and Marco Silva, of West London rivals Brentford and Fulham respectively, are among the candidates to succeed Postecoglou if he is sacked.

TOTTENHAM have confirmed five senior team stars are leaving the club.

Four senior team stars will not be continuing at the club beyond this summer, while another is seeing his loan transfer to another club be made permanent.

The first of these departures is 37-year-old reserve goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who joined the club in 2022 from Southampton.

He has played 34 times for the north London club, including 13 times this season.

Sergio Reguilon is also leaving the club after joining them in 2020.

The Spaniard has been on loan with Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and most recently, Brentford last season during his time at Spurs.

Overall the 28-year-old played 73 times for the club, scoring twice and assisting nine goals.

Goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman came through the club's academy but only ever made one appearance for the first team - a Europa League win over Ludogorets in November 2020.

The 26-year-old has had two loan spells with Swedish side Degerfors IF.

Meanwhile, the club have opted against making Timo Werner's loan transfer from RB Leipzig into a permanent deal.

The 29-year-old initially joined them on a six-month loan before coming back for the full duration of this season.

However, the ex-Chelsea ace only managed three goals and seven assists in 41 games, with his last game for Spurs coming off the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City before being frozen out by manager Ange Postecoglou.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will also be saying goodbye to Spurs officially as his loan to Marseille which started last summer becomes a permanent transfer.

In addition to the senior team departures, six players in the development squad - Will Andiyapan, Archie Baptiste, Jahziah Linton, Maxwell McKnight, Max Robson and Jaden Williams - will be leaving at the end of their contracts while Elliot Krasniqi leaves after the end of his three-year scholarship.

Timileyin Adekunle, Dante Orr and Charlie Warren from the Under-18 squad are also leaving.

However, there is one arrival of note to speak of in loanee Kevin Danso, whose move from RC Lens has now been made permanent in a £21million deal.

A SUPERCOMPUTER has predicted the outcome of tonight's Europa League final.

Manchester United and Tottenham are set to do battle in Bilbao in a crunch clash with huge implications for both sides.

The Premier League duo have each endured woeful domestic campaigns, languishing 16th and 17th and respectively.

Tonight's match offers a huge shot of redemption, with either Bruno Fernandes or Son Heung-min set to lift the famous trophy.

The Red Devils are hoping to add extra silverware to their bustling cabinet, having won the FA Cup last season.

Spurs, meanwhile, are aiming to end their painful 17-year drought - with Son particularly desperate to mark 10 years in North London with the first trophy of his club career.

Ahead of the game, boffins and brainiacs over at AceOdds have built a supercomputer to crunch the numbers and determine the most likely outcome.

The egghead formula has simulated the outcome 1,000 times.

And it has worked out that Spurs are most likely to run out 2-1 winners.

Such an outcome would see Ange Postecoglou's second season prophecy come true.

The Aussie vowed last September: "I'll correct myself - I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year. Nothing's changed.

"I've said it now. I don't say things unless I believe them."

Tottenham's last trophy was the 2008 League Cup, with Jonathan Woodgate's extra time header seeing off Chelsea at Wembley.

Under several different managers they have since lost four cup finals without scoring a goal.

Their most recent final came in 2021, when they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup under Ryan Mason.

Tottenham have won all three of their meetings with Man Utd this season.

The North Londoners won 3-0 against Erik ten Hag's beleaguered side last September at Old Trafford.

Spurs followed that up with a dramatic 4-3 League Cup triumph in December, in which Son scored an "Olimpico" - a goal straight from a corner.

The Lilywhites most recently beat United 1-0 in a low-key league affair in February.

Opta's supercomputer has struggled to split the two sides.

They have made Spurs very slight favourites, giving them a 50.3 per cent chance of winning.
