Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank says Dominic Solanke is still not fit to play for this weekend’s clash with Wolves.

Solanke has been struggling with an ankle injury since pre-season and has been dealing with it ever since. He has only managed two appearances this season, 19 minutes against Burnley on the opening weekend and 12 minutes against Manchester City the week after.

The 28-year-old has not featured at all in over a month, and Frank gave an update today.

“Dom is not available,” he said.

“Dominic, as I said, his ankle injury has just been a little bit tricky. It’s nothing big.

“If we’re positive about it, it’ll be relatively quick.

“It’s not perfect, but we are going forward in the right direction.

“Dom has been running a lot and actually done a lot, so he’s in a fine-ish place. Of course, it will take a few weeks to get up to a good place.”

New forward signing Randal Kolo Muani will also be out again, with Frank revealing he picked up the problem in training: “Kolo Muani’s dead leg is just dragging on, so it’s a little bit annoying, it will just take a few more days. He will not be available.”

But midfielder Pape Sarr is set to be available after missing the Carabao Cup clash with Doncaster.

“Everyone that was available for the latest Premier League game is available again,” Frank said.

“Midweek, Pape was out. As I said, it was a precaution. He trained well today, so that’s positive.”

Tottenham agree deal for Eze

Tottenham agree deal for Eze - Hayters TV
Description

Tottenham have reportedly agreed a £60 million deal to bring in Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Tottenham will pay £30 million of the fee up front with the rest paid in instalments for the forward, according to reports from The Sun.

At the beginning of July Spurs had a £60 million bid for Morgan Gibbs-White rejected by Nottingham Forest before the Englishman signed a new contract forcing Spurs to look elsewhere.

After James Maddison suffered an ACL injury in their 1-0 friendly win against Arsenal in Hong Kong, Spurs’ need for a number ten became more pressing.

Even though Tottenham won the Europa League last season they finished 17th in the Premier League which led to the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Since then they have appointed Thomas Frank as manager and bolstered their squad by adding Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha to the side.

As well as Maddison’s injury, Dejan Kulusevski has also been missing for Spurs since May after he underwent knee surgery.

Frank’s side started the opening two matches of this season against PSG and Burnley without a natural number ten so if Eze comes in he will be able to fill that role.

The England international had a free-kick goal ruled out in what will likely be his last ever match for Crystal Palace against Chelsea.

His greatest moment for the Eagles was his winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in May to win Palace their first ever major trophy.

After signing for Crystal Palace from QPR in 2020 Eze has gone on to make 169 appearances in blue and red scoring 40 goals.

Even though he mostly has played as a number ten for Palace, a position Tottenham need to fill this summer, he is also able to play out wide on the left which he has done on the occasions he has played for England.

Tottenham defender Djed Spence says he is targeting more silverware with Spurs after signing a new deal with the club.

Spence joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in July 2022, and after loan spells at Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa, made 35 appearances for the club last season.

It follows youngster Mikey Moore, who is on loan for the season at Scottish club Rangers, also penning a new deal with the club.

“I’m over the moon,” Spence said after signing his new deal. “I’m happy to sign and I just can’t wait to start the season.

“I just want to keep playing well and reach higher levels. Everyone has trials and tribulations, but you know I’m a fighter so I always work hard, try to do my best and come back from there.

“It’s been difficult. It’s been a rollercoaster road, for every challenge I’ve been resilient and fast forward I’m here now and I’m happy so I’m just over the moon with everything.

“I’ve definitely grown. I’ve learned a lot over the past few years, being in different countries, learning new things.”

Spence helped Spurs to lift the Europa League last season despite the club’s disappointing domestic campaign.

Reflecting on last season, he said: “Personally I think it was a great season for myself. Probably my breakthrough season you could say in the Premier League.

“I was happy with myself and hopefully this year I can continue that and get to new heights.

“It’s a good feeling. Hopefully I can continue it again this year and we can win something.

“The new manager has been good with me. He speaks with me a lot and gives me confidence, so I think that is very important for a player.

“My target for the season is to definitely win a trophy, play as many games as I can and just win.”

Spurs, meanwhile, are trying to complete a deal to sign Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Ebere Eze.

Tottenham are in talks with Palace over a deal for the 27-year-old, who is valued at around £70m.

Description

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Yves Bissouma will be back in the Tottenham squad for their match against Burnley, but says it is too soon for Destiny Udogie to return.

Tottenham lost on penalties to PSG in the Super Cup on Wednesday without Bissouma, who was left out of the squad because of persistent lateness, according to Frank.

“Bissouma isn’t here because of disciplinary reasons,” the Tottenham boss said. “He has been late several times, the latest one too many.”

However, the Dane now insists that the issue has been resolved and the Mali interational will be back in the Tottenham squad to face Burnley.

“Bissouma was a situation,” he said. “I addressed it, there was a consequence. He will be in the squad tomorrow.”

Frank added, “We have now dealt with the situation internally so I am looking forward to the big game tomorrow and that is where the main focus should be.”

Tottenham do, however, have several injury concerns going into the game. Dominic Solanke played his first minutes since last season against PSG but Udogie, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Kota Takai and Radu Dragusin all missed out through injury.

Frank confirmed that this weekend is too soon for Udogie to return, but that everyone else who played in the Super Cup should be available.

“Every player who was available is available for the team,” he said. “Destiny is progressing but it’s too early for him to be involved in the squad.”

Tottenham have already brought in Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha this summer, but they also sold Heung-Min Son to LAFC and will be without James Maddison for most of the season after he suffered an ACL injury against Arsenal earlier this month.

Reportedly Spurs have been in talks to sign Eberechi Eze and Savinho; Frank insists that his side are in the market for new players this summer.

“We are looking in the market, of course, not only for the number 10 position, but just to see if we can strengthen the squad.” he said.

“The players we are looking for are only players that we think can improve the squad. I think the right thing to do is to pick the right player that fits, and if we find them we will do something.”

‘You do that and you win trophies’ – Djed Spence on Tottenham’s big target this season - Hayters TV
Description

Tottenham defender Djed Spence says new boss Thomas Frank has placed a big emphasis on defensive solidity this season after last season’s struggles at the back.

Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in charge of the club this summer and after conceding the fifth most amount of goals in the Premier League last season, Spence says keeping clean sheets is a big focus this campaign.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail (about Frank’s demands) but I think the main thing is be solid at the back and our target is to keep as many clean sheets as possible,” he said. “You do that and you win trophies, you win titles.”

Thomas Frank has already signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich this summer, while Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Ebere Eze and Man City winger Savinho are among the players Spurs are keen on.

And when asked by Hayters.com about the potential of new additions, Spence said: “Yeah, I mean I’m not sure who has been linked or who is going to come in, but I think whoever comes in will definitely add strength to the squad and will be a good thing for us.”

Spence played the full ninety minutes on Wednesday night as Tottenham were narrowly beaten by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the Super Cup, following a late comeback from the French champions.

Reflecting on the defeat, he said: “I think we’ve got to keep our heads up first and foremost. Then starting Saturday, we play at home, get a win and take it from there.”

Despite the result, the 25-year-old impressed with a composed defensive display, helping to keep PSG’s star-studded attack quiet for the best part of 80 minutes. When asked whether that performance gave him added belief, Spence remained grounded in his self-confidence.

“Yeah, they’re all good players but I wouldn’t say it gives me any confidence because I am already confident,” he said.

Looking ahead to the return of Champions League football to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spence spoke about his excitement to feature on the biggest stage.

“Yeah, it’s a great competition, it’s the big stage, everyone wants to show what they can do on the biggest stage, so yeah looking forward to it.”

The Super Cup will be PSG’s first match since they lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. They beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-final and Bayern Munich 2-0 in the quarter-final but they were beaten 1-0 by Botafogo in the group stage.

Tottenham’s final game of pre-season did not go to plan as Bayern Munich beat them 4-0 at the Allianz Arena but they were able to beat north London rivals Arsenal 1-0 in Hong Kong. Draws against Luton, Wycombe Wanderers and Newcastle rounded off a mixed pre-season for Thomas Frank’s side.

What’s been said?

Thomas Frank says that the Super Cup is a huge opportunity for Tottenham to continue to win silverware, after they won the Europa League in May.

“I think for the club, for the team, for me, for everybody involved at Tottenham Hotspur, it’s a massive game,” he said. “A great challenge and an even bigger opportunity.

“That’s how my brain works, I see opportunities instead of pressure or whatever. So for me, massive opportunity and we will definitely embrace it and we will do everything.”

Luis Enrique wants to “continue making history” as PSG boss after his side won a treble last season.

“What we did last season was an achievement for everyone,” he said. “We want to continue making history, that’s our goal.

“Last year, I don’t think anyone thought we were capable of winning the Champions League, but we did it. And for the future, we have even more dreams.”

Frank’s squad boosted as Spurs confirm signing of Palhinha

Frank’s squad boosted as Spurs confirm signing of Palhinha - Hayters TV
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have completed a deal with Bayern Munich for defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha.

The 30-year-old will return to the Premier League just one year after he left for the Bundesliga. Palhinha has joined on a season-long loan, and Spurs have the option to make the deal permanent for £27 million.

A product of Sporting Lisbon’s academy, Palhinha went on to make 95 first-team appearances for the side. He left the Portuguese capital for the Premier League in 2022, as he joined Fulham for £20 million.

The holding midfielder immediately made an impression in England. He was named as Fulham’s Player of the Season and was widely credited as one of the best players in his position in the Premier League. He finished the season with the most successful tackles out of all players in the division.

Following his impressive debut campaign in England, Palhinha had already attracted numerous admirers. He was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, and had even completed his medical for the Bavarian side. However, the deal collapsed as Fulham failed to find a replacement.

Palhinha continued in west London for the 2023/24 season, once again topping the Premier League for successful tackles. Last summer he finally got his move to Bayern Munich, joining for a £47.4 million fee.

However his time in Bavaria has ultimately been disappointing. He made just six Bundesliga starts for Bayern and failed to make an impression on manager Vincent Kompany.

Despite his struggles in Germany, he has retained his spot in the Portuguese national team. He was part of the squad that triumphed in the UEFA Nations League earlier this summer.

Now that he is returning to London, the combative player will hope to recapture his best form. Spurs have just concluded their pre-season tour of Asia with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

Frank fearing the worst after ‘brutal’ Maddison injury

Frank fearing the worst after ‘brutal’ Maddison injury - Hayters TV
Description

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has confirmed he fears the worst after James Maddison suffered a serious injury in pre-season.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Newcastle in South Korea in the final match of their pre-season tour of Asia. Maddison came off the bench with only 15 minutes remaining, however he went down injured just ten minutes later.

It looked to be a serious problem for the midfielder, who was stretchered off the pitch.

“James Maddison’s injury looks bad. It was a brutal moment,” Frank confirmed.

Following a five minute cameo on Thursday, it was just the Englishman’s second appearance of pre-season. He spent the end of last season sidelined with a knee injury, which he may now have re-aggrevated.

Frank said: “We’re pretty sure it was the same knee he injured before.”

If the injury is as bad as it looks, the 28-year-old could be ruled out for a significant spell at the start of the season. Spurs begin their Premier League campaign in just under two weeks time at home against Burnley.

Today’s game was also significant as it may have been Heung-min Son’s final appearance in a Tottenham shirt. Spurs’ captain recently revealed his intention to leave the club, and he bid farewell to supporters in his native country today.

Frank continued: “I think sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal. That’s what we got today.

“It looks like with Madders a bad injury and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son from his team-mates and the respect from the Newcastle players.”

“First we had the walkaround and then the team-mates gathered around and he was emotional.

“In the changing room it was more of the same. I just said a few things but not much because it’s about Sonny and then he said a few things. It was beautiful.

Mathys Tel confident Spurs can 'win everything' after Europa League success

Mathys Tel confident Spurs can ‘win everything’ after Europa League success - Hayters TV
Description

Mathys Tel believes Tottenham have what it takes to be in the mix to win every trophy next season.

The 19-year-old was part of the Spurs side under Ange Postecoglou that ended a 17-year wait for silverware with victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

He was the north Londoners first signing under new boss Thomas Frank after he made his loan move from Bayern Munich permanent for £30m, and he has his sights set on more silverware to add to last season’s Europa League success.

“Yeah, of course,” he said. “My first season, six months, just helped me a lot off the pitch, on the pitch. Now I want to score a lot of goals, a lot of assists and take every trophy. This season Tottenham can win everything.”

“I’m very happy about it, because it’s a big club for me,” Tel said during Spurs’ pre-season tour in Hong Kong. “It’s a chance to write a story with a big club like this. I’m very happy to be here and will just try to have more success with the club.”

Tel was hot property when he signed in January, and his permanent signing this summer is a signal of intent, after a positive experience during the back end of the 2024/25 season.

“It was the project,” he said of his decision to sign permanently. “I only had six months last season here with Tottenham, and my time here was great. I just appreciated that time. That’s why I wanted to stay. And I’m very happy about it.”

Head coach Frank has kept things simple so far. “He didn’t talk about my position or plan,” Tel revealed. “He just said the main thing is the collective; every player is important. We will see what happens. I just need to be ready to play.”

Having already had a taste of the Champions League whilst at Bayern, the Frenchman says his side need to be on the ball from the start. “It is such a big competition, the best in Europe, so you need to be ready and make sure you go for it.”

“We are a big club and should always be in this competition,” he added.

Everything you need to know about new Tottenham signing Kota Takai - Hayters TV
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first new signing under Thomas Frank – here is everything you need to know about him.

Spurs have signed Koto Takai from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for a £5 million fee.

The loan moves of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel have already been made permanent by Spurs, but Takai will be the first new face to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

The 20-year-old defender will boost Frank’s squad with plenty of both potential and experience.

Playing history

After 11 years in the Kawasaki Frontale academy, the centre-back was promoted to the first team for the 2022 season. He made his debut that season at the age of 17 in the Asian version of the Champions League.

Since then he has become an important player for the Japanese outfit, and has made 81 total appearances. Takai has enjoyed successes with his side too. They won the 2023 Emperor’s Cup (the Japanese version of the FA Cup) and the 2024 Japanese Super Cup.

He was also part of the side that recently reached the 2025 AFC Champions League final. However, they were defeated 2-0 by an Al-Ahli side which featured Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firming and Ivan Toney.

Takai has also been capped by the Japan national team. After representing his country at youth levels, he made his full international debut in September 2024. So far he has made four appearances for Japan and he also represented them at the 2024 Olympics.

Contract status

Takai has joined Tottenham on a five-year deal. His contract will run until 2030, when he will be aged 25.

Style of play?

Takai is very much a modern central defender. Standing at six foot and four inches tall, he is an athletic player but he is also very capable on the ball. He is comfortable in possession and ranks amongst the best passers in the J-League.

Did you know?

On their way to the AFC Champions League final, Kawasaki Frontale faced Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the semi-final. Takai was the man tasked with marking the Portuguese superstar, as the Japanese side triumphed 3-2.
