Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprise move for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

The 35-year-old spent a lengthy period as the understudy stopper at Elland Road, but over the course of the last two seasons has dislodged both Illan Meslier and Lucas Perri.

He ended the 2025/26 campaign in fine form, helping Leeds retain their Premier League status with solid displays between the sticks.

The England-born Wales international has not only proven to be a reliable operator, he counts towards the homegrown quota.

It appears these factors have made him an attractive prospect, as Tottenham Hotspur have recently been credited with interest in securing his services.

Manchester United linked with Leeds United goalkeeper

Spurs could face a battle for his signature, as The Athletic have claimed Manchester United are weighing up a swoop for the former Hull City loanee.

The Red Devils, Leeds’ bitter rivals from across the Pennines, are said to be looking at getting an experienced deputy on board. Also thought to be under consideration is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Sam Johnstone.

Darlow is due to see his Leeds contract expire at the end of the month but reports have indicated the Whites want to keep hold of him.

However, if the Whites are looking to sign a new number one this summer, it may be tough to convince Darlow to snub high-profile rivals.

Expert’s view on Karl Darlow

Last month, Leeds legend Tony Dorigo claimed Darlow was deserving of a new deal in an interview with The Yorkshire Post.

When asked by if Darlow had done enough to earn a new contract, Dorigo said: “For me, most definitely. I mean, if you think of the the issues we had with the form of our ‘keepers, whether it was Meslier, whether it was Perri, for him to come in, there's a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

“When he came, he didn't play much at all, and all of a sudden, you put him in that sort of arena under that sort of pressure and he's come through it, time and time again. It's interesting because I always think with great ‘keepers, it's not actually about all the incredible saves you make. It's more the mistakes you don't.

“I think it's those that are steady as a rock. You know exactly what they're going to do. Darlow falls into that category. I think he’s been really solid for us. It's clear the defenders feel confident in him and vice versa, I think that sort of ‘keeper is always valuable.

“Whether it's as number one or two, who knows, that's up to the manager, but I think as a character and with what he's done, he's been very impressive.”

Karl Darlow’s time at Leeds United

Leeds signed Darlow from Newcastle United in the summer of 2023, when there was uncertainty over Meslier’s future at Elland Road.

Many believed the Frenchman would move on but an exit failed to materialise, leaving Darlow to play second-fiddle.

He eventually moved into the number one spot for the Championship run-in in 2025, later becoming number one again in January this year after Perri’s blunders in the 4-3 defeat to Newcastle.

Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has reportedly been sounded out by Tottenham Hotspur with the expiry of his contract looming.

The 35-year-old is due to see his Leeds deal run out next month, although reports have indicated the Whites want tie him down for another year.

He ended the 2025/26 campaign as the main man between the sticks at Elland Road having dislodged £15.6m acquisition Lucas Perri.

Leeds United’s Karl Darlow ‘sounded out’ by Spurs

According to Mail Online, Tottenham have sounded out the Wales international over the possibility of a move to North London next season.

He would most likely be going in as an understudy, but Spurs would arguably be able to offer a more lucrative financial package than Leeds.

There is also every chance he could revert to a back-up role at Elland Road next season, with Leeds having been tipped to re-enter the goalkeeper market this summer.

It would certainly be a shame to see Darlow depart LS11 given how reliable he has been for Leeds in recent months. He was also a key figure in the Championship run-in last year, when he stepped in for the blundering Illan Meslier at the tail end.

Darlow impressed against Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs earlier this month, helping Leeds claim a 1-1 draw.

Pundit’s verdict on Karl Darlow

Speaking to The Yorkshire Post earlier this month, Whites legend Tony Dorigo claimed Darlow is deserving of a contract renewal in West Yorkshire.

When asked if Darlow has done enough to earn a new deal, Dorigo said: “For me, most definitely.

“I think it's those that are steady as a rock. You know exactly what they're going to do. Darlow falls into that category. I think he’s been really solid for us. It's clear the defenders feel confident in him and vice versa, I think that sort of ‘keeper is always valuable.

Pascal Struijk‘s future is reportedly uncertain following the completion of his eighth full season at Leeds United.

The 26-year-old arrived at Elland Road from Ajax’s academy midway through the 2017/18 campaign, penning a deal in West Yorkshire after impressing on trial.

Nearly a decade later, Struijk has amassed 196 appearances in Leeds colours and lifted the Championship trophy twice.

However, in recent months, there has been regular talk of interest from Premier League rivals in the cultured centre-back.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United have all been linked with the former Netherlands youth international, as have Fulham and AFC Bournemouth.

Pascal Struijk latest

According to The Athletic, Struijk’s future in West Yorkshire is uncertain as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.

It has been claimed the club are keen to retain him, but that Struijk holds the cards with his deal nearing expiry.

Leeds are said to have knocked back at least one bid for Struijk last summer and further interest in the defender is expected over the coming months.

Pascal Struijk sale ‘risk’

The sale of Struijk would look good on the balance sheets at Elland Road given he was a cheap youth recruit back in 2018. However, Leeds would be losing a player who has developed considerably since the club’s last spell in the Premier League.

He has been one of Daniel Farke’s most trusted lieutenants in recent months, lining up in a central back three alongside Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol.

Last month, Leeds were warned of the risk of selling Struijk by ex-Whites winger Jermaine Pennant. He told The Yorkshire Post: “He came from the academy, so there's a lot of profit you would get to sell him. I don't think you'd be selling him on the cheap.

“If there is a replacement who is just as good, who is a little bit cheaper, then I think that could be a good plan for business for the club. But in saying that, it's a risk.

“Players come to the Premier League who are not Premier League proven. We know that Struijk is now. We've seen it week-in, week-out, he's a very instrumental person in this Leeds team.

“He's like a captain-esque figure in that team. If you don't need to [sell], then in my eyes, you've got to keep him. But if you're struggling for PSR (profit and sustainability), then it's not a bad idea.”

Premier League table without VAR and where Leeds, West Ham, Spurs & Forest would sit - Yorkshire Post
Description

VAR (video assistant referee) was introduced to improve the accuracy of refereeing decisions and reduce the number of disputes.

Critics of the system, however, would argue it has only heightened the level of animosity sparked by officiating calls.

Decisions made with the help of VAR had a huge impact on the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, influencing match outcomes and creating plenty of headlines.

Most fanbases tend to think their respective clubs are hard done by, but some have benefited from tough calls more than other this term.

AceOdds have conducted analysis and crunched the numbers to determine how the final Premier League table would have looked had VAR not been used.

Leeds United are reportedly among the clubs who could look to prise prolific marksman Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar.

Parrott left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2024 with just four senior appearances for the North London club under his belt.

He sought pastures new in the Eredivisie, a division in which he has thrived. This season, the 24-year-old has weighed in with 16 league goals and 31 in total across all competitions.

Leeds have previously been linked with the Republic of Ireland international, who is also thought to have attracted interest from European heavyweights.

Leeds United named among Troy Parrott admirers

According to Dutch outlet Soccer News, Leeds are curious to see whether they will be able to push through a deal for Parrott.

Everton and AC Milan are said to have the same stance and the report has also credited his former club Tottenham with interest.

A summer battle for Parrott’s services looks likely and it remains to be seen which clubs get themselves involved. Not only would he arguably be a coup for Leeds, he is a player who would add a different dimension to their attack.

After AZ Alkmaar’s recent season finale, Parrott said: “A lot can happen in football, but if it was my last match with Alkmaar, I’ve had the best two years of my life.

“Now it is important for me to take the next step in my career and to play at the highest level.”

Troy Parrott’s career path

Parrott spent the bulk of his senior years at Spurs in the loan system, spending time with Millwall, Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Preston North End and Excelsior.

It was at Excelsior that the goals started to flow and AZ Alkmaar swooped to strike a permanent deal after Parrott’s season on loan in the Netherlands.

He is also a key figure for the Republic of Ireland national team and has scored 11 goals in 35 appearances for his country.

November's game at Manchester City was a turning point not just in their season, but their whole course.

Daniel James and Willy Gnonto were substituted at half-time as the Whites changed from 4-3-3 to 3-5-2. The team has not looked back since, but both have found themselves without a job to do.

Two injuries, to Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle, left them scraping the barrel in a match which was only a different result or two out of 35 from being crucial.

James and Gnonto are wingers at a club which no longer does wingers. Both have played for their countries at centre-forward, but manager Daniel Farke is not keen on either there.

Gnonto started Farke's first Leeds game as a No 9, never to return. James has not played there for him.

James is a good player now at the wrong club. Unsurprisingly, he looked ill-at-ease at right wing-back when, just as predictably, Spurs targeted him.

Left winger Mathys Tel was Spurs' best player and scorer. Richarlison should have been on the scoresheet too, when played onside by James. It was hard to be too critical.

James was substituted in the second half for Gnonto to give a better fist of the role he played well in the FA Cup at Championship Derby County, but Leeds needed someone more suited to the role. With left-back Jayden Lienou on the bench and right-footed James Justin at left wing-back would such a low-risk game for the visitors have not been a good time to look at the 18-year-old?

Last summer, Leeds built their squad around a 4-3-3 formation, having solidly stuck to 4-2-3-1 for two Championship seasons. But November’s rethink demands something different and when just two hamstring injuries struck, they did not have it.

The spirit Leeds have shown all season – even when fighting from a goal down on Monday in a game they could afford to lose but West Ham United needed them not to – has justified a tight squad, but limited the eventualities it can cover.

"(On Sunday) Jayden Bogle was ready to travel with us but he injured himself somehow," said Farke. "I've never experienced someone who has a hamstring strain by doing (gym work).

"James Justin, a right-footed full-back, had to play as a left wing-back because simply I didn't have any other left wing-back available.

"Daniel James had to play, for the first time in his career at club level, as a wing-back – keeping in mind that he hasn't played many minutes – simply due to the fact that I didn't have any other wing-back options.

"I wanted to go offensive instead of putting a centre-back into this position. Sebastiaan Bornauw perhaps could have played there, but I wanted to attack this game."

The reality of Leeds has changed, and now their squad needs to change with it, with more wing-backs and left-footed defensive options.

They have been fortunate with injuries in 2025-26, but they cannot push their luck.

The previous day, West Ham had endured a hammer blow when the video assistant referee denied them a stoppage-time point. On Monday night, Thomas Kirk came to their rescue, giving Leeds a penalty at the second time of asking.

Then Kirk denied Spurs a 104th-minute spot kick for a faint scratch on the ball by Lukas Nmecha on James Maddison. This relegation battle is going own to very fine margins.

Below their best, set back by injuries, Leeds nevertheless showed the professionalism and integrity to spoil the party.

Had it not been for a brilliant stoppage-time save by Antonin Kinsky, the goalkeeper hung out to dry by Igor Tudor, the Yorkshireman could have won rather than drawing 1-1.

It was a night of ifs, buts and maybes.

In the comfort zone after having their place in next season's Premier League confirmed by West Ham's defeat, Leeds could not claim to have been Spurs equals in terms of performance, but this time of the season is not about that, if any is.

Denied a first-half penalty by Kirk on the tightest of technicalities, they were granted one in the second, and Dominic Calvet-Lewin put it away to keep Tottenham squirming and the Hammers hoping. They trail Spurs by two points with two games to play, the second of them against a Leeds team who were suffering for the lack of jeopardy in north London.

The team-sheet also exposed the lack of depth in Leeds' squad, then Tottenham tried to as well.

With Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle both missing with hamstring injuries, Daniel James was drafted in at right wing-back. Teenagers Jayden Lienou and Rhys Chadwick were on the bench. Neither came off it.

Not surprisingly, Spurs directed a lot of traffic James' way, with Mathys Tel staying high and wide to drag either him or his Welsh team-mate Joe Rodon into potions they did not want to be.

Needing to win to stay up, where Leeds no longer did, the home players were the hungrier, and dominated the early stages. But by the time James nearly forced a goal in a rare moment of attacking 19 minutes in, the hosts had not had a shot on target.

Pascal Struijk headed wide inside 50 seconds after Leeds kept a long throw-in alive, then Spurs took over.

James played Richarlison onside in the 10th minute, but Rodon used his body well to stop the Brazilian getting on the end of Pedro Porro's pass.

That apart, the "European (Europa League) champions" as the home supporters delighted in reminding Leeds, were much more bark than bite.

James pressed Tel into doing something stupid at his own byline, and only a glancing header from Kevin Danso stopped his pass across the penalty area being a perfect cross for James Justin.

A couple of minutes later Kinsky saved a Rodon header from Brenden Aaronson's cross only partly over the line. It looked as if Leeds might be starting to take encouragement from Spurs' ineffectiveness.

But instead the Londoners put that right.

Karl Darlow unconvincingly punched a Danso long throw but Richarlison's overhead kick response went well wide.

After 26 minutes Tel wriggled through only to be met by a big tackle by Jaka Bijol - comfortably Leeds' best player in the first half, which told a story in itself.

Aaronson did well to smother a Conor Gallagher volley from outside the area.

Randal Kolo Muani was released behind Justin but fortunately for Leeds, what he did with the ball was neither one thing nor t'other. Spurs kept his ball across alive, though, and Rodon had to take the sting out of Richarlison's volley.

Darlow being punished for holding the ball more than eight seconds was indicative of Leeds' doziness, but Struijk was alert to clear Porro's shot from the resulting corner off his lone. After an Ao Tanaka volley over, the full-back put another effort just wide.

Leeds had a video assistant referee check for a penalty in first-half stoppage time when Aaronson played the ball to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was being pulled by Danso. But Kirk backed up the linesman's late flag with Calvert-Lewin adjudged to be a big toe offside.

Football closes its eyes to the fact the technology is not that accurate.

Six minutes into the second half, with Leeds unchanged and no better, Spurs took the lead.

Bijol flicked Tottenham's seventh corner of the game to Tel, who controlled and curled in a wonderful goal. At that point, with the home crowd pumped up, a comfortable Spurs win looked on the cards.

Richarlison wasted the chance for a second when Kolo Muani beat Sebastiaan Bornauw – fresh on for the injured Struijk – and delivered a ball he volleyed over.

Leeds kept plugging away but did not look like scoring, James shooting harmlessly wide after a one-two with Aaronson shortly before he was substituted in a switch to a 3-5-2 which made them much more competitive.

From nowhere, Leeds found an equaliser.

With Gillett exuding uncertainty throughout, Kirk stepped in where he apparently did not when Richarlison appeared to elbow Bijol at the start of the half.

This time he allowed Spurs to counter-attack whilst Ethan Ampadu laid prone with a head injury. When Kirk called him to the pitchside monitor, Gillett could see it was because Tel had kicked him in the head, in the penalty area.

Amapdu had a massive lump above his left eye by full-time.

With 74 minutes on the clock, Calvert-Lewin hammered a penalty that despite diving the right way, Kinsky could not stop.

With the stadium holding its breath, he fluffed a chance from outside the area 10 minutes later, but the wind had been taken out of Spurs sails. The sight of James Maddison coming on for his first senior appearance since England's game against Bosnia Herzegovina last June reinvigorated them.

But it was asking a lot, even with 16 minutes added to the game.

Roberto De Zerbi was booked as his frustrations boiled over and substitute Sean Longstaff very nearly made them worse.

Played in by Justin, Longstaff hit a shot brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by Kinsky, infamously substituted in first half of Tottenham's disasterclass at Atletico Madrid, and failed to get a clean contact on his shot from the corner, looping it over.

Fourteen minutes into a minimum of 13 added minutes, Kirk was in action again, called to adjudicate on a tackle from the excellent Nmecha on Maddison in the penalty area. This time he said no.

Another football match in the relegation battle decided by the barest of margins. Leeds should be very pleased indeed to be out of it.

Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, van de Ven, Udogie (Spence 85); Bentancur (Bergvall 81), Palhinha; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel (Maddison 85); Richarlison.

Unused substitutes: Dragusin, Bissouma, Gray, Sarr, Souza, Austin.

Leeds United: Darlow; Rodon, Bijol, Struijk (Bornauw 55); James (Gnonto 63), Tanaka (Longstaff 90+3), Ampadu, Justin; Stach, Aaronson (Nmecha 63); Calvert-Lewin.

Unused substitutes: Perri, Piroe, Byram, Chadwick, Lienou.

Leeds United are set to visit the capital to take on Tottenham Hotspur as a safe club.

There will be a jovial feeling among the travelling supporters, who can look forward to another campaign of football in England’s top tier.

West Ham United’s defeat to Arsenal rendered the Hammers unable to catch the Whites, who are now fighting Tottenham Hotspur to avoid taking the final relegation spot.

Leeds may no longer be in danger, but Daniel Farke will be determined to see his side finish as high as possible. His assistant, Edmund Riemer, said: "We're in a great space. You see the bunch of players, I think also the fans, and everybody identifies with this team, and this is what we want to build on.

"It's an honest team, It's never a lack of effort. If they're under pressure, they always step up, and I'm pretty sure the last three games they will be completely on it as well. It's one of the basic things that you want as a manager, as a team.

"We are tough to beat, we can be good on the ball, we can create set-pieces for pretty much every situation. We want a team that can do it all, and I think this is what we have created.

"It's been a brilliant season, especially going into the season knowing how tough the Premier League is. Also having worked in the Bundesliga, it's a very tough and crazy league so it's good that we broke the cycle."

Here are the key TV and streaming details ahead of Leeds’ trip to Tottenham.

Arsenal's dramatic 1-0 win at West Ham United means the East London side can no longer catch the Whites, and must now fight it out with Spurs to avoid joining Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers in next season's Championship.

But Riemer says it is a strength of his boss Daniel Farke that he has been able to create an atmosphere at Leeds' Thorp Arch training base whereby the players respond to good times and bad in much the same way.

"It was massive that you created this atmosphere, that you need to always be level-headed," said Reimer.

"If the emotion gets too high, you need to calm everything down and if it doesn't go our way, I think that's his big strength, that he's always like he is.

"He doesn't change, he's always doing it in this way, and if you're not successful, he doesn't start panicking and doing it the other way.

"He's always level-headed and always realistic and always spot-on in what he does."

Farke often speaks about Leeds as an "emotional" club but there has been a quiet confidence about them this season, and consistent progress too. After starting the season with a win, they have only once dropped below their initial target of a point per game, in matchdays 12 and 13 – also the only time they have been in the relegation zone.

Now they have 43 points from 35 matches, with nine still to play for.

Even Farke's absence from the pre-match press conference was not about trying to do something different. He stayed away from Thorp Arch because of illness on Friday, leaving assistant Riemer to deputise.

But Riemer, who played for Farke at Lippstadt, and was his assistant at Borussia Dortmund II, Norwich City and Borussia Monchengladbach, says the manager's calm demeanour can sometimes drop, and the pair do not try to play "good cop, bad cop" on the training pitches.

"He can get flustered if in training sessions things are not going right, that's 100 per cent for sure, but he always is controlled and can keep his emotions and control his emotions,” commented Riemer.

"I would definitely label myself as a good guy, but I wouldn't class the manager as a bad guy, although if it comes to being a bad guy, he sure as hell can be a bad guy."

Noah Okafor has been ruled out of Monday's 8pm kick-off with a calf strain, and Gabriel Gudmundsson is missing with a hamstring injury. Pascal Struijk is expected to be fit despite a hip problem, as is Farke.

"We're in a great space," said Riemer. "You see the bunch of players, I think also the fans, and everybody identifies with this team, and this is what we want to build on.

"It's an honest team, It's never a lack of effort.

"If they're under pressure, they always step up, and I'm pretty sure the last three games they will be completely on it as well.

"It's one of the basic things that you want as a manager, as a team.

"We are tough to beat, we can be good on the ball, we can create set-pieces for pretty much every situation. We want a team that can do it all, and I think this is what we have created

"It's been a brilliant season, especially going into the season knowing how tough the Premier League is. Also having worked in the Bundesliga, it's a very tough and crazy league so it's good that we broke the cycle."

It looked like Leeds would go into Monday’s game with safety still not assured but Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equaliser at Arsenal was chalked off when Barnsley video assistant referee Darren England sent referee Chris Kavanagh to review the decision at pitchside.

Victory keeps Arsenal in the driving seat to win the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur v Leeds United team news with 10 out and three doubts - Yorkshire Post
Description

Leeds United are set to visit Tottenham Hotspur for a Premier League meeting under the Monday night lights.

However, if West Ham do get a result against the Gunners, Leeds will be aware they have work to do to get over the line.

Tottenham could prove to be tricky customers, as they are starting to turn the tide in their fight against relegation. As it stands, Spurs are hovering precariously above the drop zone in 17th.

The clubs last met in early October, when a Leeds team still finding their feet in the promised land fell to a 2-1 defeat at Elland Road.

Ahead of the reunion of Spurs and Leeds on Monday (May 11), here are the team news from their respective camps.
