‘I Really Like Him’: Tottenham Icon Sandro Picks Out Perfect Cristian Romero Replacement - LiveScore
Description

Tottenham Hotspur legend Sandro has told head coach Roberto De Zerbi which centre-back to sign this summer.

De Zerbi guided Spurs to safety following his March appointment, and the north London side are expected to strengthen this summer in order to avoid a repeat of last season.

Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson are expected to join the capital outfit from Bournemouth and Liverpool, respectively.

Additionally, Savinho has been linked with a summer move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Brazilian having featured high on the club’s wishlist last year and again in January.

However, there are expected to be outgoings, too, with a lack of European football set to impact how Spurs operate in the market.

Sandro names Romero replacement

One of those tipped to leave is captain Cristian Romero, who only penned a new deal at the club last year.

The Argentine was expected to depart Spurs 12 months ago as La Liga giants Atletico Madrid pushed to sign the former Atalanta man.

And Sandro believes that Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke would be the perfect replacement for Romero.

“They are talking about Marcos Senesi, at Bournemouth, but I really like the defender from Brighton, Van Hecke. I really like him,” Sandro told Football.London.

“He's good on the ball, he played with De Zerbi before too. He's not only good on the ball, but he can be very aggressive and in a way that he’s not stupid, he's not doing crazy things without the ball, but I think he's mature.

“For me, Van Hecke is ready. He's ready to play because he played under De Zerbi and he showed that he can play in the moment, that he's mature, and we need players that are already mature.

“I think we are now going to the market and have to buy players that are ready.”

'He needs to stay'

The Brazilian midfielder, who played for Spurs between 2010 and 2014, also believes that Micky van de Ven must remain at the club, especially if Romero does leave.

“100 per cent, he needs to stay. He needs to stay, Van de Ven needs to stay, he needs to be the captain for next season,” he continued.

“I think De Zerbi will build a strong squad and it will help Micky as well. He's so important for Tottenham and he's been there for three seasons and it's important for him to stay, I think.

“If we let him go, it will be losing Romero and him, so I hope he is at least there for three or four seasons.

“We need to keep him, I think he's happy now with De Zerbi because De Zerbi can put a smile on the players' faces and it’s so needed.

“Van de Ven needs to stay and I hope he does stay and build the team around him at the back and then around the midfielders. I think we are okay in the middle.”

Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs Ready New Contract for Luka Vuskovic Amid Bayern Munich and Barcelona Interest - LiveScore
Description

Tottenham are readying a new contract for teenage centre-back Luka Vuskovic in order to ward off high-level interest, according to Football Insider.

Vuskovic completed his long-awaited move to north London last summer and was immediately sent out on loan in order to garner regular game time to aid his development, this despite impressing in pre-season.

Bayern and Barcelona monitoring Vuskovic

And the 19-year-old has come on leaps and bounds during his time in the Bundesliga, with champions Bayern Munich believed to be monitoring the teenager.

Vuskovic has been crucial for Hamburg this season, scoring six times, including a free-kick in a 3-2 win over Europa League finalists Freiburg at the weekend.

La Liga title winners Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Vuskovic as the Blaugrana look to bolster their backline.

'I'd love to play in Spain'

The player himself has previously admitted he’d one day like to play in Spain, stating: “To be honest, it wasn't the Premier League I really wanted. I wasn't thinking about playing in England.

“I was always only thinking about the Croatian league and Hajduk (Split), but of the European leagues, Spain was somehow the closest to me, and now the German league - it's a really great league. One day I'd love to play in Spain, that's it.”

Spurs are now looking to extend Vuksovic’s current contract in order to end speculation surrounding a possible exit.

The Croatia international is tied down to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030, so there is no pressure from the club to initiate talks with Vuskovic.

Spurs looking to pull clear of danger

However, should Spurs succumb to relegation, then rumours surrounding Vuskovic’s future at the club would be rife.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side have a great opportunity to open up a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone when they welcome Leeds to the capital on Monday night.

West Ham’s dramatic 1-0 loss to league leaders Arsenal means Spurs can effectively seal a top-flight spot with victory over the Whites on home turf.

The Gunners’ win at the London Stadium on Sunday also means that Leeds will be plying their trade in England’s top tier next term, with the pressure off the Yorkshire side heading into the final gameweeks of the season.
