Arsenal set to follow in Tottenham’s footsteps after major development in North London

Arsenal and Tottenham have one of the fiercest rivalries in the Premier League.

Eberechi Eze chose to join Arsenal over Tottenham in the summer transfer window, prompting fury from Spurs fans.

Arsenal have won the last four competitive meetings against Spurs, yet Thomas Frank is looking forward to his first as Tottenham manager on 23 November.

Frank has enjoyed a positive start at Tottenham as the Lilywhites sit third in the Premier League table.

The Arsenal and Tottenham divide has always remained volatile, yet the Gunners are planning to emulate something Spurs have recently done.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Arsenal could repeat Tottenham’s move to Wembley Stadium

Ahead of Spurs’ move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019, they played their home matches at Wembley across three different seasons.

The Telegraph journalist Sam Wallace has revealed that Arsenal are planning to expand the Emirates to make it the largest-capacity stadium in North London.

The aim is to make it hold over 70,000 fans, meaning the Gunners would have to play matches temporarily at Wembley, too.

Whilst the stadium hosts England matches, the Carabao Cup, and FA Community Shield finals are played there, with the semi-finals and final of the FA Cup also taking place in Wembley.

In 2024, Wembley hosted the UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, with the Spanish Giants claiming their 15th European title.

Wembley holds a capacity of 90,000 people, and up until this point, Spurs are the only team to have regularly played their domestic football there.

Spurs adapted to playing at Wembley well, achieving three top-four finishes between 2016 and 2019, where the national stadium would host varying amounts of their matches.

Tottenham enjoyed spell at Wembley

Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid in November 2017 is undoubtedly the best match that supporters would have seen at Wembley.

A Dele Alli brace and Christian Eriksen’s composed finish saw Spurs dispatch of the European champions in style, as 83,782 Spurs supporters cheered on in joy.

The 1-0 win over Arsenal in February 2018 was also one to remember, as a record number of people watched the Lilywhites win a North London derby.

Much to the annoyance of Spurs fans, Arsenal could break some of the attendance records that were set, especially with the way the league leaders are currently playing.

Only time will tell whether the Gunners will enjoy more success at the biggest stadium in England.

Thomas Frank won't stand for 'exceptional' thing Ange Postecoglou enacted at Tottenham before sacking - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Thomas Frank has been crafting his own identity since becoming Tottenham manager.

Frank still has a long way to go in North London, but the foundations are beginning to set.

How the Lilywhites could line up was first seen during Spurs’ defeat to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final on penalties. Aggression and calculated attacks gave his side the upper hand for 85 minutes.

While there have been and will be setbacks along the way, the Dane will be content with the progress he has made.

Thomas Frank more defensively disciplined than Ange Postecoglou

There was fierce backlash when Tottenham dismissed Ange Postecoglou weeks after he lifted the UEFA Europa League with Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Postecoglou was appointed Nottingham Forest manager soon after leaving Tottenham, but has yet to find his footing at his new club.

The Postecoglou era was characterised by its attacking intensity and defensive instability, which was at the heart of criticism for the former Tottenham coach.

After two inconsistent seasons, former Brentford manager and ex-Premier League midfielder Martin Allen – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Frank will not be inclined to take a page out of Postecoglou’s book.

“Tottenham’s attacking intensity was exceptional under Ange Postecoglou,” Allen said.

“Both full-backs were bombing forward all the time, leaving spaces down the outside for teams to counterattack. And there was no way that that could have continued. Absolutely no way.

“It was like suicide football. Every opportunity, both fullbacks were going down the wings, overlapping, getting in the box. Frank won’t stand for that.

“All top teams have a good, either have a back four or back five to make themselves solid to beat. You don’t want to be conceding goals. And that, for all coaches, is number one.”

Once Frank has established a solid defensive foundation, it will only be a matter of time before the goals start rolling in.

Tottenham were overrun with injuries under Ange Postecoglou

There were constant claims that Postecoglou’s approach partly resulted in Tottenham’s injury crisis during the 2024/25 season.

Frank’s approach is more calculated, focusing on building a tight defensive unit before adding purposeful attacking sequences.

Despite facing several injuries since arriving, including Randal Kolo Muani, who has been nursing a dead leg, a handful of these have carried over from the previous season.

Predicting the future is a gift most do not have, but it does seem that Frank’s approach will reap considerable rewards for Tottenham.

Tottenham to miss out on £20bn jackpot as new takeover paperwork emerges

Description

The Lewis family have repeatedly maintained the stance that Tottenham are not for sale.

However, since Daniel Levy’s headline departure, Tottenham have garnered interest from many different consortiums regarding a takeover of the North London club.

Joe Lewis stepped down as Tottenham owner in 2022, with the majority ownership now held under his family trust.

Brooklyn Earick was interested in a multi-billion Tottenham takeover recently, but paperwork on 6 October confirmed that it would not go further.

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was set to back Brooklyn Earick

Earick had lined up several proposed backers, including billionaire Dan Gilbert.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Sun reported in its print edition on 7 October that Gilbert, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, has an estimated fortune of £20billion.

However, it is thought that Gilbert got cold feet about the proposal at the last minute.

Earick’s takeover would have been a record £4.5billion fee, making Spurs the second-most expensive club in the Premier League after Manchester United.

Tottenham also have interest from Amanda Stavely’s PIF group, among several different US and Qatari-backed consortiums that all want to move into the world of football.

Despite insisting the club isn’t for sale, Tottenham have been looking out for new investors.

Spurs supporters have had enough of the current regime, but change doesn’t appear close.

Tottenham fans have wanted the Lewis family out for years

Spurs fans have always been striving to see ambition from their owners, yet over the years, they’ve never felt that the Lewis family and Levy have put enough investment into competing with their rivals.

After reaching the Champions League final in 2019, the recruitment did not build on the Lilywhites’ success in Europe, and Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by November.

The construction of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium set Spurs back over £1billion, and whilst fans can watch their team in one of the best grounds in the world, serious success is yet to follow on-pitch.

The lack of consistent silverware in N17 over the past 25 years has left Spurs fans praying that a takeover could materialise, yet the signs so far show that the Lewis will continue to maintain full control of Tottenham.

Either way, they appear to have missed out on Gilbert’s fortune.

Description

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison will be desperate to return to action.

Maddison is expected to miss around eight months of action for Tottenham after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in pre-season.

The 28-year-old was expected to play a key role in Thomas Frank‘s team this season, but may well find himself sidelined for the entire season.

Tottenham signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig to replace Maddison, and the 22-year-old has enjoyed a mixed start to his career in North London.

Simons was slammed after his performance against Wolves, and the Netherlands international failed to leave much of an impression against Leeds United last week.

MORE SPURS STORIES

James Maddison responds to derby jibe

Maddison signed for Tottenham from Leicester City in 2023 and lit up the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in his first few months in North London.

After just 10 Premier League appearances for Ange Postecoglou‘s team, the midfielder had already registered nine direct goal contributions.

But injury hit soon after, and has never managed to leave him fully, despite a positive return last season.

Before his time at Leicester, Maddison had enjoyed his breakthrough season in the Championship with Norwich City, and he still holds an affinity for the Canaries.

In 2024, the 28-year-old had taken to social media to celebrate Norwich’s win in the East Anglia derby over Ipswich Town, claiming “East Anglia is and always will be yellow and green“.

That comment would be brought back up by a fan of the Tractor Boys after Kiernan McKenna’s side won the latest derby on Sunday, with the fan’s taunt reading: “Any update on this?”

Maddison would respond emphatically and wrote back: “One win in 16 years. Have some shame, son“.

Tottenham miss Maddison

Not only do Tottenham miss Maddison’s likeable personality on and off the pitch, they miss his creative impact.

Goal-scoring is yet to be an issue for Frank’s team this season, with the likes of Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus contributing to the 13 Premier League goals scored.

But the deeper stats suggest that problems may be on the horizon, with Spurs creating just 7.5 expected goals (xG) and missing just five big chances, more than only Burnley and Wolves.

Maddison’s creative presence would usually be highly involved in creating those chances, but Simons is yet to recreate the weight the Englishman carries going forward.

Tottenham expert tips Ben Davies for January transfer exit on one condition

Tottenham expert tips Ben Davies for January transfer exit on one condition - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Ben Davies could potentially depart Tottenham in January ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Recent departures in the last few seasons have left Wales international as the longest-serving player in the Lilywhites squad, but that could be about to change in the near future.

Davies is yet to feature for Tottenham in competitive action this season, despite the fact that his contract was extended in the summer.

Thomas Frank has overlooked the 32-year-old so far this term, and that could spell the end for him by the time the January window comes around.

Ben Davies to leave Tottenham in January if he doesn’t get minutes

Davies’ contract at Tottenham is due to expire at the end of the season, with the extension that he received recently little more than an automatic option, which added another year to his stay.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The defender has been a reliable performer for the North Londoners since his move from Swansea City way back in 2014, but it now feels inevitable that he is nearing the end of his time with the club.

Davies has been an unused substitute in each of the last two games in all competitions, and it seems unlikely that he will get any regular opportunities moving forward.

With that in mind, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Davies’ departure may be brought forward to January, provided that regular football doesn’t present itself.

“I do wonder with Davies,” Wenham said.

“If we keep progressing as we are and we’re seeing, (Kevin) Danso come in and we’re seeing that (Joao) Palhinha can play at the back as well, I do wonder if we see Davies maybe depart in January.

“Obviously, he’ll depart at the end of this season, but maybe he’ll depart earlier if there are no sort of opportunities for him to feature.”

A mutual termination may benefit Ben Davies in January

It is becoming increasingly clear that Davies sadly has no future at Tottenham, and with that in mind, it may benefit both parties if he were to move on this winter.

With a matter of months remaining on his deal, it wouldn’t cost Spurs much to cancel his contract six months earlier to help him find a new club.

The defender is at the stage of his career where he needs regular football if he is to prolong his time in the game as much as possible, and he simply won’t get that in N17 anymore.

He has been a valuable servant for Spurs over the years, and they should ensure that they do right by him in terms of the manner of his exit.

Private investor shares revealed at Tottenham as takeover code emerges after Lewis family latest

Tottenham continue to navigate the post-Daniel Levy era amid growing takeover speculation in recent weeks.

It came as a surprise to many when Levy resigned from Tottenham, especially after he made big calls in sacking Ange Postecoglou and replacing him with Thomas Frank.

Since Levy’s departure, the Joe Lewis family have been controlling Tottenham behind the scenes, as plans for the January transfer window have started to formalise.

The Lewis family and ENIC were thought to be gearing up for a sale of Tottenham, but emerging reports have called that into question.

Tottenham ‘not for sale’ with shares still held by private investors

American multi-millionaire Brooklyn Earick has been interested in buying Tottenham, but his efforts have taken a backseat.

MORE SPURS STORIES

According to Kaveh Solhekol for Sky Sports, the Lewis family are committed to helping Tottenham achieve long-term success.

It’s also been revealed that some Tottenham shares are still held by private investors, meaning anybody who wishes to buy the club must follow the rules of the Takeover Code.

The code requires serious buyers to publicly state their intentions about buying Tottenham, as all potential buyers have now confirmed that they will not be placing bids at this time.

With the Lewis family almost guaranteed to be running Tottenham for at least the next six months, they now have the biggest responsibility to help them to success this year.

Lewis family need to back Thomas Frank in the January transfer market

It’s all well and good for the Lewis family to state their intention to help Tottenham achieve success, but that will be determined in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have made a great start with Frank this season, as the North London club sits third in the Premier League heading into the second international break.

Although his Spurs side looks strong, if they are to achieve anything this season, Frank will need that extra bit of quality to push his team over the line.

January presents itself as a massive opportunity for the Lewis family to show their commitment to Tottenham and their fans, after Levy‘s shock exit.

Description

Tottenham are set to make several big decisions over the winter transfer window.

The Lilywhites had one of the best summer windows in recent history, with the Joe Lewis family focusing on Spurs’ sporting success.

Tottenham signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig during the final days of the window.

The North London club also saw several exits, including Son Heung-min, who left Tottenham for LAFC after almost a decade at the club. However, Spurs could soon be looking to wave farewell to another player.

Kota Takai could be loaned in January

Tottenham signed Kota Takai from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for just £5million over the summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, Spurs fans are yet to see the young defender take to the pitch after sustaining an injury during pre-season. Luckily for fans, Takai has returned to Tottenham training.

But given the defensive depth of Spurs’ squad, Tottenham expert and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes a January loan could be best for all involved.

“He’s had this injury and we’re already in October, I genuinely think I’m more realistic plan for him is that he builds up his fitness from now till January and then goes on loan,” Wenham said.

“He goes on loan and then we just see what we’re working with again, next pre-season, next summer. So you’ve got to remember the whole time Radu Dragusin is coming back as well, and he’ll rightly be in front of Takai for game time.”

With limited experience in England, the defender needs game time to adapt to the pace of Premier League football.

But if Spurs do opt to own the young star out, it will need to be to a club willing to grant him game time, which is an issue the Lilywhites have faced early in the season.

Tottenham could use Kota Takai this season

Logic dictates that a player who has yet to play in an English league will need time to adapt to its demands.

That seems like the likely outcome with Takai, but football is not linear, and Tottenham could play over 50 games this season.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are Spurs’ best centre-back pairing when fit, emphasis on when.

Both have been lucky with injuries so far, but the season is still in its early stages, and the intensity of games will only increase here on out.

With plenty of games left to be played and fans yet to see Takai in action, it seems unfair to condemn him to a loan move so soon.

Now that he has returned to training, Frank and Spurs supporters will likely be able to see him in action before making a definitive judgement.

Description

Brooklyn Earick certainly was not messing around when it came to his plans to purchase Tottenham from the Lewis family.

The mega-rich American has money behind him and wanted to invest big in Spurs to make them a serious force on the world stage.

Earick’s takeover of Tottenham would be worth a record £4.5billion, which in turn would make Spurs the second-richest Premier League club behind Manchester United.

At the same time, some questioned whether Earick was the right man for Tottenham, even if he does have plenty of cash.

However, it has now been confirmed that Earick will not go forward with his Tottenham takeover attempt.

Brooklyn Earick sends message after failed Tottenham takeover attempt

Earick informed the Stock Exchange on Monday that he will not be going ahead with his takeover.

The former DJ has now posted a screenshot of the letter on his personal X account along with a message for supporters.

The tweet read: “It’s been a privilege engaging with Tottenham Hotspur and the Lewis family’s representatives over the past few months.

“I have great respect for the club, its leadership, and its supporters, and wish them nothing but success.”

Earick pulling out is another sign that Joe Lewis and his family have no desire to sell up their shares.

Daniel Levy exit sparks speculation of Tottenham sale

The shock departure of Daniel Levy as Tottenham chairman in September sparked speculation of Lewis selling up.

However, Lewis has reportedly made it clear that will not be happening, and so it has proved.

That is not to say another interested party, or parties, will not step forward, but for the time being the North London club remains in the hands of Lewis.

Tottenham are performing well on the field right now under Thomas Frank, which certainly helps matters, but a massive cash injection to take Spurs to the next level will always be welcome.

That is something supporters will certainly hope happens down the line, sooner rather than later.

Major update emerges on £4.5bn Tottenham takeover after Brooklyn Earick talks with Lewis family

Brooklyn Earick has made no secret of his desire to purchase Tottenham in a takeover that would be worth £4.5billion.

It emerged last month that Earick wants to purchase Tottenham for a world-record sum, which would be made up of £3.3bn for the club and £1.2bn in funds for players’ wages and transfers.

That would have propelled Tottenham to the second-richest team in the Premier League, behind only Manchester United.

Indeed, it had supporters dreaming of a fantasy Tottenham XI if the takeover went through and funds were indeed set aside for new signings.

However, a new update that emerged on Monday spells bad news for those hopes.

Brooklyn Earick scraps Tottenham takeover attempt

Earick has been very public with his pursuit of Tottenham, even sharing images from a previous visit to the stadium.

Indeed, the mega-rich American has even posted various comments on social media during Tottenham matches of late.

But it has now been confirmed via a statement to the Stock Exchange that Earick will not be pursuing the takeover attempt further at this point.

“Further to the announcement made by the Board of Tottenham Hotspur Limited on 26 September 2025, Mr Brooklyn Earick confirms that he does not intend to make a firm offer for the company,” the statement read.

According to The Sun, this follows significant talks between Earick and Joe Lewis’s legal counsel Douglas Armstrong.

Joe Lewis has no intention of selling up at Tottenham

Even when fans were getting excited by a possible changing of the guard, it was reported Lewis and his family had no intention of bowing out.

And on the basis of Earick backing down – for now – it appears as though Lewis has made it clear through his representative that still remains the case.

Lewis does indeed have no intention of selling his stake, which means Spurs will continue to be overseen by him for a while longer yet.

That is something Spurs fans will have to simply accept. There will no doubt be more speculation similar to this, but Lewis is hear to stay.
