Description

Tottenham are all set to appoint Igor Tudor as their new manager and he has already spoken about the North London club in the past.

Tudor will come in on an interim basis following the sacking of Thomas Frank on Wednesday morning.

Spurs have only brought the Croatian in until the end of the season, when they will then reassess their options.

The 47-year-old was most recently manager of Juventus, but was sacked in October last year after a poor seven-month spell with the Italian giants.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Igor Tudor praised ‘very strong’ Tottenham

As well as Juventus, Tudor has also managed the likes of Lazio, Udinese and Olympique Marseille.

In fact, faced Tottenham in the Champions League while in charge of Marseille back in 2022, with the North London outfit coming out 2-1 victors.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored a last-minute winner for Spurs, driving through the middle and smashing a shot in off the post.

That result knocked the French side out of the competition, while Tottenham advanced to the last 16 as group winners.

Speaking after the game, Tudor was full of praise for the Lilywhites, labelling them as ‘very strong’.

As reported in RMC Sport, he said: “”We played a good match against a very strong opponent. It wasn’t enough,” said Igor Tudor in a press conference. At the moment, it’s not going in our favour and football doesn’t even give us a little bit of what we deserve. It annoys me, it makes me sad.”

Igor Tudor loves Luka Modric

Tudor has also spoken very highly of fellow countryman and former Tottenham star Luka Modric in the past.

Ahead of Juventus’ Club World Cup game against Real Madrid last summer, the 47-year-old revealed his deep admiration for the veteran midfielder.

Speaking about Modric, Tudor said: “In a country like ours, with fewer than 4 million people, someone like him is born every 300 years in Croatia,” Tudor said. “He’s a source of pride for the entire country because he’s a great player, but as a person, he’s the same—maybe people don’t know that,” (Managing Madrid).

Tudor will quickly gain the admiration of Tottenham supporters if he keeps speaking so well of the club.

However, in order to keep the fans onside, he will have to deliver results on the pitch, with Spurs just five points clear of the relegation zone as it stands.

The real reason Tottenham managerial target Edin Terzic rejected job at European giants

Description

Edin Terzic rejected the chance to manage Monaco back in October as he wanted to hold out for a job in the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph, Terzic had the opportunity to join the French giants a few months ago, but opted to wait for an English club to come in.

Tottenham have now added the former Borussia Dortmund boss to their shortlist, with their search for Thomas Frank’s replacement now well underway.

As well as Terzic, Spurs are considering the likes of Marco Rose, Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and Robbie Keane in their pursuit of a new manager.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Edin Terzic eager for Premier League opportunity

Terzic has been out of work since the summer of 2024, when he left Borussia Dortmund following their 2-0 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

The Croatian performed admirably during his two-and-a-half years at Dortmund, just missing out on the Bundesliga title in 2022-23, and coming within a game of Champions League glory.

He also had an interim spell at the German club before joining permanently, guiding them to the DFB-Pokal in 2021.

Terzic is now interested in the Tottenham job, after turning down several other sides around Europe since his departure from Dortmund.

However, Spurs will have to move quickly if they want to secure the 43-year-old, as he is also being tracked by La Liga sides ahead of the summer.

Edin Terzic already has Premier League experience

Terzic was assistant coach under fellow countryman Slaven Bilic at West Ham United between 2015 and 2017.

When Bilic was sacked by the Hammers, Terzic also departed, and he hasn’t had a role in the Premier League since.

Currently, it is believed that the former West Ham assistant has been shortlisted by Spurs for an interim manager role.

Pochettino will likely become available in the summer, following the 2026 World Cup with the USA, so Tottenham are considering an appointment until the end of the season, before then bringing in their former boss.

If that is the case, then Terzic may only be afforded a short spell in North London before he is then replaced by Pochettino.

Marco Rose appointment makes total sense, he’d instantly save ENIC £52m for Tottenham

Marco Rose appointment makes total sense, he’d instantly save ENIC £52m for Tottenham - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Marco Rose would be an excellent appointment for Tottenham, and his arrival could save ENIC from a £52m mistake.

After Thomas Frank was sacked, Spurs are in the market for a new manager, as they also look to avoid a possible relegation down to the Championship.

Rose has now emerged as a front-runner for the Tottenham job, and there would be a lot of benefits from him joining the Lilywhites.

Rose’s last job in football was as the manager of RB Leipzig, where he worked with marquee summer signing Xavi Simons.

How Marco Rose could help Xavi Simons hit his peak at Tottenham

Simons arrived with a lot of expectation from RB Leipzig in the summer, and while he has impressed on occasion, it would be a fair assessment to say he has not been the world beater he was touted to be so far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As a highly respected talent who arrived with a £52m price tag, in 31 appearances, the Dutch attacker has just seven goal contributions. A quite unimpressive level of output.

Frank seemingly was unable to nurture Simons’ qualities, but the arrival of a man who had the 22-year-old playing some of his best football could finally unlock him.

At Leipzig, Simons was the star of the show, and Rose was able to get him involved in the action much more than Frank was capable of.

The 2023-2024 season was perhaps the former Leipzig man’s breakout year, where he ended the Bundesliga campaign with eight goals and 11 assists in 32 appearances.

He followed that up the following season with a combined 17 goal contributions (10 goals and seven assists) in 25 appearances, although Rose was sacked with seven games remaining that year.

An exceptional output, and the level that Spurs fans had been hoping for this season. Additionally, in 31 games this season, Simons has created 11 big chances, as per Sofascore.

However, in a similar number of games last season, he created 19 in 33 appearances.

Where would Simons play under Rose at Tottenham?

If Rose is confirmed as Tottenham head coach, then Simons could be in line for a positional change in N17.

Under Frank, the Dutchman has primarily been deployed as an attacking midfielder, although during the final weeks of the Dane’s spell, he was used as a wide number 10.

However, under Rose at Leipzig, he was predominantly an out-and-out winger.

In Germany, Simons played 51.8% of his games as a left-winger, according to Transfermarkt, and if Rose takes the job at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would not be a surprise to see him use the 22-year-old in that role.

With Wilson Odobert now out with an ACL injury, the Lilywhites are light in the wide areas, and Simons could find his peak once again in that role.

Rose could unlock Simons and finally show the player that forced Spurs to break the bank in the summer. In that regard, his arrival would make total sense for Tottenham.

Description

Tottenham have reportedly agreed a deal to make Igor Tudor their new manager.

According to Sky Sport international reporter Gianluca Di Marzio via X on Friday, Tudor has verbally agreed to become Tottenham‘s new manager.

Di Marzio reports that the 47-year-old is set to sign a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until this June, indicating he’s currently going to be taking on an interim role in N17.

Tudor was previously manager of Italian giants Juventus, having been appointed there in March 2025, but he was sacked in October last year after just 24 games and seven months in charge, and has been out of work ever since.

This marks a speedy resolution from Spurs chiefs to fill their vacancy, having only axed Thomas Frank on Wednesday following the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Will Igor Tudor become permanent Tottenham manager?

Tudor has got a huge task on his hands stepping into this interim role with Tottenham, as he must rescue them from the unthinkable possibility of relegation to the Championship.

Spurs currently sit 16th in the top flight table, just five points above 18th-placed London rivals West Ham.

As such, there is a genuine and very real threat of relegation this term if Tudor is unable to galvanise this group of players, and make some successful tactical tweaks.

If he can do that, then many Spurs fans will likely be calling for the Croatian to be handed a long-term deal in North London, in the hope he can finally be the coach to guide them to a brighter future.

But, is a long-term deal on the cards for the former Juve boss? Well, it doesn’t appear so.

According to an update provided by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Friday, he reports that Tottenham don’t have the option to make his move to N17 a permanent one.

That would suggest they don’t envision him being their manager of the future, but do have faith that he’s perhaps the best possible candidate to come in and get results straight away.

Tottenham taking strange gamble with Tudor’s contract

Whether it’s because Tottenham didn’t want to commit to a permanent option, or it was part of Tudor’s terms for taking the interim job, we don’t yet know.

Either way, it does give birth to a pretty strange situation until the end of the season.

As detailed in the above graphic from Sofascore, Tudor’s Juventus side won 42 per cent of the games he was in charge of, which is a considerable improvement on Frank’s 34 per cent with Spurs.

What happens if Tudor comes in and starts winning games and becomes a huge hit with the players and fans?

Waving goodbye to him should he do that would be a tough pill to swallow, but Tottenham evidently feel there’s better long-term candidates out there.

Xavi Simons will be ecstatic with new managerial frontrunner at Tottenham – ‘Top combination’

Xavi Simons will be ecstatic with new managerial frontrunner at Tottenham - 'Top combination' - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Marco Rose has emerged as the new frontrunner to take over at Tottenham following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.

Frank was sacked by Tottenham just hours after his side were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United, a result that leaves the North London outfit 16th in the Premier League and only five points clear of the relegation zone.

According to one bookmaker, Rose is now the favourite to replace Frank at Tottenham, moving ahead of previous favourite Roberto De Zerbi on Friday morning.

If Tottenham do opt to bring in the former RB Leipzig manager, it will be great news for Xavi Simons, who has already confessed his admiration for the 49-year-old.

Xavi Simons had great relationship with Marco Rose

Simons joined Tottenham from RB Leipzig last summer for a fee of around £52million, but he has underwhelmed slightly in North London since his arrival.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 22-year-old had made 32 appearances for Spurs across all competitions, but has only managed two goals and five assists in that time.

However, Simons‘ fortunes in North London could be about to change, especially if the Lilywhites do decide to appoint Rose.

The pair worked together at Leipzig for almost two seasons, between 2023 and 2025, with the winger clearly a big fan of his former boss.

Speaking to Bundesliga about his relationship with Rose, Simons insisted that the duo were a ‘top combination’, and praised the German manager for his honesty.

He said:“[We are a] top combination, I would say. I heard from him before I came here and, yeah, really honest coach, if things go well and things don’t go too well, he would tell you, for sure.

“He really wants you to improve and, at the end of the day, being successful with the team, that’s the most important thing for him.”

Marco Rose got the best out of Xavi Simons

Simons has long been touted as a wonderkid, and Rose helped develop him from a potential star to a player worth over £50m

Paris Saint-Germain loaned the Dutchman to RB Leipzig at the start of the 2023-24 season, and he managed Bundesliga 21 goal contributions from just 33 appearances.

Simons returned to Leipzig on loan the following summer, with the move being made permanent in January 2025.

In his final campaign in the Bundesliga, the attacker scored 10 goals and picked up seven assists, despite missing two months through injury.

Rose was sacked by Leipzig two months before the end of the season, with the German side missing out on European football entirely.

Even with the rest of his side struggling, though, Rose had still managed to get the best out of Simons.

Tottenham could still make PGMOL appeal on Thomas Frank’s behalf despite sack

Tottenham could still make PGMOL appeal on Thomas Frank’s behalf despite sack - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham could still lodge an appeal to the PGMOL over perceived unfair officiating on behalf of Thomas Frank.

That is the view of former FIFA referee and PGMOL head Keith Hackett, who exclusively shared his thoughts to Tottenham News.

Tottenham sacked Frank on the back of losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle United on Tuesday, with Marco Rose now emerging as the favourite to take charge of Spurs.

Prior to that, Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United in a game in which captain Cristian Romero was sent off.

That decision split opinion, with some believing it was a harsh call and others adamant it was fully deserving of a red.

MORE SPURS STORIES

But some unpunished challenges that have followed in the days since have certainly raised plenty of eyebrows.

Keith Hackett: Spurs right to feel aggrieved by unpunished incidents elsewhere

One such high-profile example was Phil Foden catching Calvin Bassey rightly on the Achilles heel in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday.

Brian Brobbey was late on Martin Zubimendi in Arsenal’s win over Sunderland, meanwhile, and Matheus Fernandes was also on the end of a bad challenge from Kobbie Mainoo in West Ham versus Manchester United.

These three separate incidents were put to Hackett, who agreed Spurs should seek clarification from PGMOL as to why Romero was sent off and the others were not.

When asked if Frank’s sacking would change their stance at all, Hackett replied: “The club secretary is usually the person that submits the various pieces of correspondence to the authorities, not the manager.

“The manager, prior to his dismissal, may have expressed his views to the Premier League Match Delegate.

“If that was the case, I suspect that if any correspondence lands in the appropriate in-tray it will be dealt with privately and not in the public domain.”

Where do Tottenham rank among most Premier League red cards this season?

Tottenham undoubtedly had a disciplinary issue under Frank’s tenure.

Taking ‘disciplinary points’ into account, nobody has more than Spurs this season, with Chelsea level.

In terms of red cards, Spurs have accrued three so far this campaign – level with West Ham and behind only Everton (four) and Chelsea (five).

Romero is responsible for two of those, while Xavi Simons picked up the other.

That certainly did not help Frank, but nor did some questionable refereeing decisions, which Tottenham should certainly be seeking clarity over even if the Dane has now gone.

Tottenham fans all agree that Richarlison should be sold after what he's just done around Ange Postecoglou - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Ange Postecoglou is making all the headlines for his comments about Tottenham.

Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham for their underperformance in the Premier League after leading them to a 17th-placed finish in the 2024-25 season.

Although the 60-year-old won the Europa League in his final game, Daniel Levy decided to replace him with Thomas Frank, who was sacked on Wednesday.

Postecoglou spoke out against Tottenham’s lack of ambition while doing an interview for The Overlap on 12 February, and Richarlison has agreed with the former Spurs manager on social media.

Richarlison agrees with Ange Postecoglou claim on Tottenham

After signing from Everton for £60million in 2022, the 28-year-old has only scored 22 league goals in over three seasons, and it’s safe to say that it hasn’t worked out.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Despite finding the back of the net eight times in all competitions under Frank, he hasn’t performed to the standard which is required.

Richarlison is out injured with a hamstring injury until early March, but that hasn’t stopped him from reacting to Postecoglou‘s comments.

The Aussie claimed that he wanted to sign Pedro Neto, Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, but wasn’t allowed to do so by the board.

He also said that Tottenham’s ‘To Dare Is To Do’ motto wasn’t something that the board stood by through their actions in the transfer market.

A clip of his words surfaced on TikTok, and Richarlison reposted the video to his followers, which left Spurs fans furious at the number nine.

They claim that he should have been sold by now, while others pointed out his hypocrisy in calling out the lack of ambition to compete at the top.

One fan said: “Yeah, I wonder if Richy was staring in the mirror as he wrote this?? I mean, the fact is, he should be one of the first players replaced in the summer if we want to go forward!! COYS.”

Another supporter added: “Fair play to Richy for calling out the club out, but if we did really dared to do, he would be nowhere near our squad.”

It’s clear that the Brazilian’s latest move hasn’t gone down well with the fanbase, and he needs to have a look in the mirror and realise he isn’t good enough to lead the line for Spurs.

Richarlison’s Tottenham career will be over in the summer

His goals paper over the cracks that show he is simply not good enough to be counted on for Tottenham.

Richarlison’s Tottenham exit is on the cards, and it’s important to note that his performances off the ball can be horrific.

He has been inconsistent throughout his Tottenham career, and the summer transfer window could see him leave in favour of regular minutes.

In the Premier League this season, Richarlison has registered a pass accuracy of 64 per cent, while only recording a dribble success rate of 46.7 per cent.

Whoever the next Tottenham manager may be, they’ll likely feel that the Brazilian is nowhere near good enough to lead the line.

And his time to N17 is just another move that has drastically failed under ENIC’s stewardship.

Tyson Fury will return to the ring on 11 April with his comeback bout taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fury will take on Russian fighter Arslanbek Makhmudov in his first contest since he was defeated twice by Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

The 37-year-old walked away from boxing at the beginning of last year, but has now stepped out of retirement once again.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium played host to Fury’s last fight in the UK, back in 2022, when he stopped Derek Chisora in the 10th round to retain WBC and lineal heavyweight championship.

Fury’s TKO victory over Chisora in 2022 is the only other time he has fought at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In what was the trilogy fight between the British duo, the ‘Gypsy King’ dominated throughout in North London to defend his undefeated record.

Fury has now been defeated twice though, Usyk getting the better of him on two separate occasions in 2024, winning on points both times in Saudi Arabia.

In the 14 months since the second loss of his career, Fury has stayed away from the boxing world, but his return has now been announced.

Ahead of his bout with Makhmudov in April, the press conference has been scheduled for 16 February and will also take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

How to buy tickets for Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov

Makhmudov has a professional record of 21-2, and will go into April’s fight as a big underdog.

The 36-year-old Russian suffered the second defeat of his career at the hands of Guido Vianello in August 2024, but has won both of his bouts since then.

Tickets for Fury’s comeback fight against Makhmudov go on priority sale from 10am on 16 February, the same day as the press conference.

They will then go on general sale from 10am on 17 February, with fans able to book their place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium via Ticketmaster.

The fight will also be streamed live on Netflix.

Description

Marco Rose is the new favourite to take over from Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

Frank was finally dismissed by Tottenham earlier this week, following months of poor performances and results on the pitch.

The Dane has left the North London club sitting 16th in the Premier League table, and just five points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham want to have a new manager in place by Monday, and the hierarchy have already begun talks with potential candidates.

Marco Rose’s odds slashed for Tottenham manager role

The Lilywhites are not featuring in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend, after they were knocked out of the competition by Aston Villa last month.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, Tottenham don’t have another match until 22 February, when they face Arsenal in the North London derby.

Whoever comes in to replace Frank has a huge job on their hands, especially with such an important game quickly approaching.

According to one bookmaker, the new favourite to take over at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is former RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose.

Rose saw his odds slashed to 5/4 on Friday morning, moving ahead of previous frontrunner Roberto De Zerbi.

The former RB Leipzig boss has been out of work since he was sacked by the German club in March 2025.

De Zerbi is now back at 3/1, with the likes of John Heitinga, Robbie Keane and Mauricio Pochettino also in the race.

Why Roberto De Zerbi is set to reject Tottenham

Despite the fact that De Zerbi is still the second favourite to replace Frank at Spurs, it now looks unlikely that he will take the job.

The Italian parted ways with Marseille earlier this week, just hours before Frank himself was sacked, sparking rumours that he was in line for a switch to North London.

However, De Zerbi is now expected to take a break from management following his recent spell in France, rather than returning to the dugout immediately.

According to those close to him, the former Brighton boss is not interested in taking a new job at this time, which all but rules him out of the managerial race at Tottenham.

Joe Lewis to squirm as true Thomas Frank financial waste comes to light - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Joe Lewis will be feeling the cost of sacking Thomas Frank as Tottenham manager for a while longer yet.

Frank was officially given the boot by Spurs on Wednesday, the morning after Tottenham’s 2-1 home loss to Newcastle United.

The Dane lasted just eight months in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hotseat, having replaced Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

Frank is now in line for a big payout given his contract in North London still had another two-and-a-half years to run.

And even not accounting for that, Joe Lewis will be squirming at how much he paid Frank per day just when taking the compensation fee paid to Brentford into account.

MORE SPURS STORIES

How much did Tottenham pay Brentford in compensation for Thomas Frank?

It goes without saying that Frank’s time was up at Tottenham. Many were saying that a long time before the Newcastle loss, which proved to be the final screw.

As can be seen in the Sofascore graphic above, Frank lost more matches (15) than he won (13) during his time as Spurs manager.

His return of 1.29 points per game has left Tottenham in relegation trouble, with the new manager – whether a caretake or permanent hire – having to hit the ground running.

To make matters worse for Lewis, he had to pay Frank £27,525 a day to release Frank from his Brentford contract.

That is according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire via X on Friday morning, as he provided a full breakdown.

Official documents show Spurs paid Brentford £6,716,000 to buy out Frank’s contract, which split across eight months provides that £27,000-plus figure.

That does not then take into account Frank’s general wages, plus his payoff for being sacked early by the Lewis Family.

How much could Frank sack cost Tottenham in total?

The true figures do not bear thinking about from the Lewis Family’s perspective, with this an incredibly expensive mistake.

It was reported earlier this week that Frank’s deal is worth £24m over the full three years – just eight of which he worked – and ENIC therefore have around £18m of that left to pay.

Add that on top of the aforementioned £6.7m compensation fee and you get a figure of £30.7m in total.

Again, the true figures could go even beyond this as it does not factor in other staff members that joined Frank and have subsequently left.

That perhaps explains why ENIC took so long to sack Frank, but ultimately it is a decision that just had to be made.
