Description

Thomas Frank will be under plenty of scrutiny in the early stages of the season as he takes the reins at Tottenham.

The Danish boss has succeeded Ange Postecoglou in the dugout in N17.

In the process, he becomes the latest man charged with overseeing the progress that Daniel Levy so desperately desires at Tottenham.

Spurs have already been linked with moves for the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, as Frank lines up a potential raid of his former employers.

The 51-year-old will have plenty of big decisions to make as he looks to alter the Tottenham squad. However, he is likely to make some mistakes along the way and might have already made his first.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mathys Tel criticised after display for France’s Under-21s

The first signing of the Frank era was the move to turn Mathys Tel’s loan into a permanent switch.

Tel has spent the early part of the summer away with France at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

However, the forward will now be heading home after France were dismantled 3-0 by Germany’s Under-21s in the semi-finals on Wednesday (25 June).

The Spurs man has received criticism following his team’s elimination. French outlet Maxifoot (26 June) handed Tel a 3/10 match rating, writing, “He very rarely represented a danger for his opponents tonight.”

“He lacked reactivity on a ball pushed back into the German box to equalise just after the first goal.”

The former Bayern Munich man failed to link up well with his teammates, completing just 15 accurate passes in the 90 minutes. That was a consistent theme across the French forward line, as they misfired in the final third.

The 20-year-old also failed to register a single shot on target in the defeat. Meanwhile, his tally of eight duels lost – the second-highest of anyone on the pitch – was symptomatic of the tough night he faced against the German centre halves.

Tel could already be Frank’s first mistake

Frank didn’t hesitate to sign off on the deal to bring Tel in permanently. However, perhaps a bit more thought should have gone into the decision.

Munich were happy to let go of Tel, and recent showings for his country have perhaps raised question marks as to whether the Frenchman is ready for the Premier League.

Spurs parted with £30million to secure his signature a matter of weeks ago. However, they could already be wishing they had been more cautious in their approach.

Tottenham are locked in a battle with Manchester United to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

Thomas Frank is keen to reunite with his former player, who recorded his best return last season with 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

The Dane faces competition from Ruben Amorim, with Spurs and United locked in a battle for the Brentford forward.

Daniel Levy has already taken exception to United and will not be willing to let his adversaries get one over on Spurs as news of an agreement emerges.

United and Brentford close to agreement for Mbeumo

Frank was hoping that the prospect of working together again and the allure of UEFA Champions League football would be enough to convince Mbeumo to join him at Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the forward is thought to favour a move to Old Trafford, and it looks like he is a step closer to joining the Premier League giants, as Fabrizio Romano posted on Instagram (26 June) that an agreement between United and Brentford is close after the Red Devils sumbited a bid of more than £60million.

Levy is unlikely to offer the same wages for the 24-year-old, but ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that while the deal is still not done, Tottenham have time to hijack United’s move for Mbeumo if they so desire.

“I think Tottenham could still make a move for Mbeumo,” King said.

“A deal is never done until it is done, and this wouldn’t be the first move to be hijacked. I think Tottenham need to try and hijack this move.

“If Manchester United and Brentford have agreed a deal around £60m, offer slightly more. Mbeumo knows Frank, and he would be moving to a bigger club by joining Tottenham from Brentford. I would say this deal isn’t done yet.”

Tottenham at risk of getting left behind in the transfer window

While Tottenham were busy sorting out their managerial situation, other Premier League rivals were fully focused on the transfer window, which has given them a head start.

Levy has already lost out on key targets this summer and could once again find himself facing the wrath of the Spurs supporters if he misses out on Mbeumo.

The chairman would do well to secure at least one key signing this week, or he and the club risk being left further behind as players continue to slip away from their grasp.

‘Levy humiliated once again’ as Tottenham transfer exit to be agreed in hours

Daniel Levy has once again been left with egg on his face after a failed Tottenham transfer.

Tottenham have signed countless players who have failed to live up to the hype during Levy’s chairmanship.

Tanguy Ndombele was expected to be the next best thing when Spurs signed him for a club-record fee. However, after five years full of underwhelming performances, fitness issues, and loan spells, Tottenham announced the termination of the Frenchman’s contract in 2024.

The same has been true for the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso and Richarlison, and it seems as though Levy now has another failed transfer to add to his resume.

Racing Club are closing in on Alejo Véliz

Tottenham signed Alejo Véliz for £13million in August 2023, and the striker has since made just eight appearances.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The forward was sent to Sevilla midway through his debut season and spent last year on loan with Espanyol. However, Véliz struggled to make an impact with either club.

It has been widely reported that a return to his boyhood club is on the cards, but it seems that Rosario Central are not the only club in the race.

As reported by Juan Pablo De Luca via X on Thursday (26 June), Racing Club are in advanced negotiations to sign Véliz. Racing have already made a formal offer to Spurs, and there is optimism about a deal being closed over the weekend, with the negotiations entering “decisive hours”.

The finalisation of his transfer would see Levy humiliated once again. Not only will Véliz represent another failure in the market, but Spurs have yet to bring in any fresh faces this summer.

The lack of signings and failed transfers will certainly add to supporters’ uncertainties surrounding Levy’s position at Tottenham.

Levy needs to make amends in the transfer window

Tottenham fans are already beginning to lose patience with Levy, and there is no doubt that the pending transfer of Véliz will add to it.

After countless failed transfers over the years, supporters will be hoping to see a promising signing made this summer. The Lilywhites have already been linked with several transfers, including RB Leipzig’s Xabi Simons.

However, Spurs fans have been sceptical over his transfer, not because they do not want to see Simons signed, but because they do not trust Levy to agree a deal.

Therefore, if the Tottenham Chairman wants to win back the Spurs supporters, Simons must become the statement signing of the summer.

Tottenham are heading into next season in deep trouble with regards to the club’s financial position.

New manager Thomas Frank faces a challenging start to life in North London as he looks to lead Spurs into a new era following their first trophy in 17 years last season.

However, his plans have already taken a hit with Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer to Manchester United looking increasingly likely in the coming days.

Daniel Levy must back his new manager if Spurs are to compete with the Premier League’s elite, but financial constraints could bring those ambitions to a halt.

Spurs’ summer plans in doubt amid financial worries

Tottenham are entering a crucial period in the club’s history as they look to build on last season’s success.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking on The Last Word on Spurs podcast, Matt Law revealed that the North London club’s financial position is concerning.

“In terms of actual cash that Spurs have to spend, it has got dangerously low,” he said.

It’s a worrying statement for the reigning European champions as they head into next season, especially with rival clubs already spending heavily in the market.

If the statement is true, it would severely restrict Tottenham in the transfer market, with the club likely needing to sell players before making any new signings.

Questions must also be asked of Levy, who is in charge of the cashflow at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank takes charge with Tottenham at a crossroads

Tottenham fans will be hoping to relive the highs of last season, having finally seen their club achieve long-awaited success.

However, they may have to be patient once again. Competing in the Champions League presents a much more formidable challenge than the Europa League, with stronger opposition standing in their way.

Frank will need to guide the club in his own direction – something he did successfully at Brentford. But Tottenham is a different beast, with high expectations and pressure to win.

With financial concerns looming and cash potentially limited, it could be a long and testing season for both Frank and the fans.

It’s likely to be a rollercoaster campaign. While supporters believe the club is moving in a new direction, many still question whether Daniel Levy can deliver the consistent success they crave.

‘Daniel Levy to raid Lyon for Mikautadze’ as Tottenham transfer offer prepared

‘Daniel Levy to raid Lyon for Mikautadze’ as Tottenham transfer offer prepared - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Daniel Levy now has his eyes fixed on bringing Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze to Tottenham ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Levy knows that he must supply Thomas Frank with plenty of resources if the Dane is to vindicate his new boss’ decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, and the Spurs chief has now turned his attention towards Mikautadze.

The Georgian frontman plundered 17 goals and nine assists in all competitions last term, but with Lyon facing major financial difficulties at present, he seems destined to depart the French giants this summer.

Spurs have now seemingly positioned themselves so that they are ready to capitalise as Lyon’s situation unfolds, and that could present the Lilywhites with a fantastic opportunity.

Tottenham lead Mikautadze race as offer prepared

Dominic Solanke’s struggles last term have made attacking reinforcements a relatively big priority in N17 this summer, and it now looks as though Tottenham may be in line to bring in their next star frontman.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lyon’s financial issues saw them relegated to Ligue 2 by the Ligue 1 authorities on Tuesday (24 June), and although they intend to appeal that decision, it surely won’t alter the fact that they will likely have to sell several key players.

That has handed Levy the perfect opportunity to launch a raid for Mikautadze, and Spurs are currently leading the race to sign the 24-year-old, according to Tutto Juve (26 June).

The North Londoners are understood to be preparing a concrete offer for the striker in the next few weeks, while Juventus are also keen on the former Metz man.

Several other Premier League clubs also have their eyes on Mikautadze, but Tottenham are currently thought to be in a particularly strong position.

Mikautadze would be a great addition for Spurs

Spurs’ interest in Mikautadze is nothing new, as they previously showed an interest in signing the striker during his time at Metz.

The Georgian has since kicked on after moving to Lyon last summer, and is now arguably one of the most exciting young strikers in European football at present.

His ability to both score goals and provide opportunities for others would make him a strong addition to Frank’s attacking ranks.

Levy seems to have acknowledged the fact that he will need to back the Dane this summer if he wants to get the turnaround that he desires, and Mikautadze seems set to be part of the heavy investment from the 63-year-old.

It’s always difficult to call how well a player will adapt to a different league, but if Tottenham could bring Mikautadze in, then it could be one of the most exciting signings of the summer in the Premier League.

Xavi Simons could be just the player Tottenham need to take them to the next level.

Tottenham are on the hunt for an attacking midfielder amid suggestions that James Maddison could leave Hotspur Way.

There have been question marks around Maddison after yet another injury left him sidelined for the backend of last season, which saw the Englishman miss the UEFA Europa League final.

Whether Maddison can take Tottenham to the next level has become a subject for debate, and Spurs have been linked with Simons this summer.

Tottenham urged to sign Eberechi Eze instead of Simons

As reported by Ben Jacobs via Give Me Sport (19 June), Tottenham have enquired to understand Simons’ position and the price for a potential deal for the RB Leipzig star.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is understood that a deal could be struck near the end of the summer transfer window, but Spurs could be taking a risk by signing Simons.

The midfielder struggled to replicate his impressive debut season for RB Leipzig last year and has looked less dangerous on the ball.

In his current form, adapting to the pace of the Premier League may be difficult for him. Tottenham have also been linked to Eberechi Eze and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the Crystal Palace star would be the better option.

“Simons is a very exciting young player,” Wenham said.

“This is someone who’s been under a lot of pressure since he was around 12 or 13. I can remember him appearing in Nike adverts when he was coming through the academy at Barcelona. Therefore, he’s had lots of exposure from a young age.

“He’s also played in the Champions League. However, personally, I’d rather we sign Eze. Simons has a high ceiling, but we need someone who can hit the ground running. We’ve already got lots of talented young players with high ceilings; we need experience.”

Thomas Frank could face a huge dilemma

Whether to sign Simons or Eze may not be the most pressing concern for Thomas Frank. Indeed, the biggest issue is how he will line up after their signing.

If Maddison remains at Tottenham, Frank will have the 28-year-old, Dejan Kulusevski and either Simons or Eze as midfield options. While this would be important for squad depth, it will be difficult to satisfy each player.

This could result in the departure of either Kulusevski or Maddison over the next year. Therefore, Frank’s start at Tottenham may become trickier than first anticipated.

Brentford ‘to be furious with Tottenham’ as medical authorised for new transfer

Brentford are having a difficult summer following Thomas Frank’s move to Tottenham.

Frank, who was in charge of Brentford for seven and a half years, is yet to be replaced at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees are also ruing the loss of staff members, including highly-rated coach Justin Cochrane, who also made the move to Tottenham.

As well as Frank and Cochrane, Brentford look set to lose Bryan Mbeumo, and it appears as though the Cameroonian isn’t the only player moving away from West London this summer.

Christian Nørgaard set for Arsenal medical

Frank’s association with his old club meant there was always going to be talk of Brentford players joining Tottenham, with Nathan Collins linked amid exit rumours about Cristian Romero.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the byproduct of Frank leaving seems to be extending beyond Tottenham, with the Bees now facing a potential exodus ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (26 June), Christian Nørgaard looks set to leave Brentford as the midfielder has been authorised to undergo a medical at Arsenal.

The 31-year-old followed Frank to West London after working with him at Brøndby and has been an integral part of the Brentford setup, having made almost 200 appearances in his six years at the club.

He was one of his compatriots’ trusted generals in the centre of the park, and is unlikely to have left had Frank remained in his post.

The player exodus that Brentford are facing will leave them furious at Tottenham for the impact their poaching of their manager continues to have. As a result, it could make any further business between the two clubs much more difficult.

Tottenham also need a defensive midfielder

It is somewhat of a surprise that Frank has not moved to bring Nørgaard to Tottenham, given Spurs’ need for a defensive midfielder.

The former Brøndby manager is said to be a huge fan of Archie Gray. Therefore, he could promote the England Under-21 international to a starting position in the side.

Nevertheless, with Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur entering the final year of their contracts, Spurs require at least one more central midfielder, especially one who is defensively orientated, as none of Tottenham’s current crop of players has consistently shown they are suited to the holding midfield role.

Description

Thomas Frank will be no stranger to the task that lies ahead of him as Tottenham boss.

Domestically, improving on the 17th-placed finish spearheaded by Ange Postecoglou shouldn’t be a challenge, though Frank ultimately has to find a way to better a season in which Spurs won a trophy.

The former Brentford boss will be keen to stamp his own authority in North London and build on the success that they found last season.

However, in order to achieve that, change will be needed across several areas, and one in particular will set him above what Postecoglou showcased throughout his time at Tottenham.

Frank ready to showcase what Postecoglou didn’t

Postecoglou will blame injuries for the shortcomings his side demonstrated in the league last season, when in reality, it was the way he responded to those injuries that made the biggest impact.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He didn’t adapt and instead stuck with the same plan with different personnel, which is exactly what Paul Robinson thinks Frank will refrain from doing.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I think there’s a versatility with Thomas Frank. I think with Postecoglou, you knew everything that you were going to get every week with the team.

“The formation, apart from towards the end of the season, they became a little bit more pragmatic and slightly more defensive-minded, but he played the same system.

“I think with Thomas Frank, you see him adapt almost weekly for the opponents that he’s playing against.

“I think that’s going to be the biggest noticeable change immediately from him is the team’s ability to play in different shapes and different formations on a regular basis, sometimes in-game. I think the in-game management that he’s got as well. He makes players better, Thomas Frank.”

Tottenham must learn from Postecoglou failures

Postecoglou showcased exactly what can happen if you don’t react to the situation that you face, and if you don’t adapt to the cards you’ve been dealt.

Frank needs to avoid that at Tottenham, and if he can, success can arrive in North London once again, though recruitment will also play a huge role.

Description

Son Heung-min continues to be the face of Tottenham despite his uncertain future in North London.

Son has spent almost a decade at Tottenham, where his performances and success have propelled him to become one of the biggest names in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old was named Spurs captain in 2023, and despite guiding the Lilywhites to their first European trophy in 41 years last season, he has been linked with a move away.

Son’s performances have gradually declined over the last two years, and the South Korean could be on the move this summer after Tottenham’s pre-season tour.

Nevertheless, Spurs are aware of his iconic status and are still capitalising on his global appeal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham launch away kit for 2025/26 season

Thomas Frank is set to speak to Son about his future before the club, the player, and the manager all reach a decision.

The Spurs skipper has one year left on his contract and could still fetch a handsome fee if he were sold during this transfer window, both due to his quality and his commercial value.

Despite the final verdict not yet being delivered, Son was still front and centre as Tottenham launched their new away kit (26 June).

The forward was pictured wearing the stylish black strip, which has garnered plenty of praise from the Spurs faithful, and appeared in every subsequent Tottenham post promoting the new kit.

This may be purely a marketing strategy, given both Son’s popularity and Daniel Levy’s desire to maximise profits while the South Korea captain remains in N17.

However, it could also point to the club’s intentions to keep the icon in North London beyond this summer.

Delay over tour obligations could help Tottenham

Son is contractually obligated to feature for Tottenham against Newcastle in a pre-season friendly in South Korea (3 August).

While the forward may rue the contractual limitations he faces in finding a new club until after the clash with the Magpies, it does give Tottenham a bit of time to plan accordingly.

Frank is intent on landing at least one big-money forward, as Tottenham are linked with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo, and Mohammed Kudus.

However, the Lilywhites’ history in recent transfer windows shows that these deals may all fall through, while focus could also shift to a marquee signing in a different position, such as Eberechi Eze.

The delay in being able to sell Son means Spurs have the time to assess where their squad is further down the line before making a final decision.

Tottenham ‘ready to renew Romero’s contract’ amid £100m claim – Exclusive - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Cristian Romero could remain at Tottenham this summer despite interest from Atletico Madrid.

The defender has been widely linked with Atletico Madrid despite Spurs’ hopes to retain him.

It was recently suggested that the Lilywhites could block Romero’s departure until January. This would give the centre-back enough time to work under and hopefully form a strong connection with Thomas Frank.

However, it now seems Tottenham are set to take things a step further and attempt to renew the Argentine’s contract.

Tottenham could demand £100million for Romero

It was previously reported that Daniel Levy could be prepared to accept a fee of around £40m for Romero.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The odds of a possible departure increased with the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, with whom the defender had a close bond.

And with Frank in need of committed players, it has been suggested that Romero has become a liability.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Atletico Madrid would demand £100m if they were selling Romero, and therefore believes Spurs shouldn’t accept a cut-price deal.

“Tottenham’s stance has been clear from the outset,” Wenham said.

“These fees that Atletico were leaking to the Spanish press were never going to push the needle. Romero is now worth double what we signed him for.

“If we were trying to sign him from Atletico, they would want £100m. Therefore, if they don’t have the money, he can’t go. It’s as simple as that.

“Now, for Tottenham, it is about desperately trying to get him to renew his contract. Yes, there was some frustration about the number of games he missed last season.

“However, when you look at it in isolation, he was superb against Frankfurt and in the final. He’s a winner, and we need to keep those players around at the club.”

Tottenham need to sort out Romero’s future

While Tottenham have been looking at potential defensive reinforcements, it seems that no senior player will join the club until Romero’s future is confirmed.

This could become an issue later down the road. The question marks surrounding Romero could continue until the end of the transfer window.

If the defender decides he wants to leave and Atletico puts in an acceptable bid, Tottenham could be forced to sell toward the end of the summer. This would likely leave them without enough time to sign a replacement and would disrupt the new season.

Therefore, the Lilywhites should put an end to this transfer saga sooner rather than later.
