Description

Tottenham Hotspur have not been too active in the transfer market over the last few weeks. They came close to signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest but a switch for him collapsed, thus forcing the club to consider alternatives.

Sebastien Vidal has reported that Tottenham are now interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha with a £45 million bid in the works for the Portuguese international.

He joined Bayern from Fulham last summer but has struggled with fitness issues at the Allianz Arena. Vincent Kompany’s preference towards Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich has also worked against him.

A return to the Premier League is already under consideration for the 30-year-old and Spurs, who are looking for a deeper-lying midfielder, have already held talks with Palhinha’s employers, Vidal has stated.

Palhinha not what Tottenham need

A switch for Joao Palhinha is not what Tottenham Hotspur require. The 30-year-old’s fitness in the last year has been unflattering, while paying £45 million for a player in the latter stages of his career is also not the best use of resources.

Palhinha had an excellent tenure at Fulham and would have been a worthy addition to the team if he was still in the Premier League or playing regular minutes at Bayern Munich, though at this point in time, he may struggle for game time at Spurs too.

There is still over a month to go in the transfer window, so Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur have enough time to search for a midfielder, especially because they are not very constrained by a measly budget.

For the time being, the likes of Pape Mata Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are good enough to run the show in midfield alongside Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, so there is no desperate need for a new purchase either.

Tottenham plot swoop to sign Man City’s Jack Grealish

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Manchester City outcast Jack Grealish, as per transfer expert Mike Brown.

Since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Aston Villa for a big money back in 2021, he has won three Premier League trophies, one Champions League, and a few more major cup competitions.

However, he has only managed to showcase his best for the Citizens in one season, when they won the treble. Overall, his time at Man City can be considered underwhelming, and he struggled to play regularly in the last two seasons.

Therefore, Pep Guardiola’s side are said to be open to cashing-in on him with his existing deal set to expire in 2027. Now, on Football Insider, Brown says that Tottenham hold a long-term interest in the 29-year-old and are still willing to secure his service.

They could sign him after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White. Grealish is capable of producing top-class performances but needs to play regularly, and Spurs might be the right destination.

Brown said:

“Jack Grealish needs to be playing regularly wherever he goes. Tottenham could be that destination, especially after they’ve missed out on the deal for Gibbs-White, because they want to strengthen in that position.

“They’ve been interested in Grealish for a while, so that deal might finally come now. Gibbs-White staying at Forest is going to be a big blow, but they’ll have other targets in mind. If it’s not Grealish, there will be somebody else, but he is certainly a name on their list.”

Grealish to Tottenham

The Englishman, valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt, is comfortable playing in the CAM role and on the left flank. Moreover, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role in a midfield three.

Grealish hasn’t played in the last two seasons, and there is a question mark whether he can manage to showcase his best once again at the highest level, considering he is set to turn 30 soon.

Therefore, Tottenham might be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attacking midfield position. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service.

Meanwhile, after appointing Thomas Frank as the new manager, Spurs have only purchased Mohammed Kudus. Other than that, they have made Mathys Tel’s loan move permanent.

They finished 17th in the Premier League last campaign, and with the new campaign less than three weeks away, they need to make more additions quickly to hand Frank the necessary tools to achieve success next season.

Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing Lucas Paqueta from West Ham

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their offensive department this summer and did due diligence to their back four in the winter itself, although it is arguable that they need more depth at left back with Destiny Udogie prone to minor fitness issues.

Nonetheless, their immediate focus is expected to be on the midfield with Thomas Frank looking for a creative, box-to-box option, who can win the ball back in the deeper areas and transition it further forward.

Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham are interested in a surprising transfer for West Ham star Lucas Paqueta, who could leave London Stadium for just £30 million this summer.

The Brazilian international was close to joining Manchester City for roughly £80 million two years ago but involvement in betting and spot-fixing allegations scuppered his switch to the Etihad Stadium. Spurs could sign him for much cheaper.

Paqueta a cost-effective addition for Spurs

Lucas Paqueta is in the last 24 months of his contract at West Ham, so it is no surprise that West Ham are happy to let him go as next summer, their bargaining power will significantly reduce if he does not pen a new deal.

For Tottenham Hotspur, a £30 million transfer would make solid sense given that he is still 27 and has a good chunk of his career ahead. With his off-field issues also a matter of the past now, the player would welcome a new start at a bigger club too.

Paqueta can play across a number of positions in midfield and in the final third, so his diverse skill-sets will help Thomas Frank all the attributes he requires in different areas of the pitch, especially as a deeper-lying ball carrier.

That said, it remains to be seen if Tottenham are willing to make an attempt to sign Paqueta soon or if they would first look to cut down on their existing strength in the engine room before looking to bring in newer faces.

Tottenham Hotspur eyeing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes as Son Heung-min replacement

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have celebrated their Europa League triumph at the backend of last season and consequent qualification to the Champions League with the transfers of Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel but are far from done in the window.

With Son Heung-min linked with a switch to Los Angeles FC, a move which the Lilywhites are prepared to give the green light to, they may require another forward and have already identified their chief target.

According to TBR Football, Tottenham are ready to go for Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo Goes if Son leaves the club. The Brazilian winger is also thought to be open to the idea of joining the Londoners.

Rodrygo scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists for Real Madrid in all competitions last season, and was one of the first names on the team sheet under Carlo Ancelotti but he has lost prominence under Xabi Alonso since the Club World Cup in June.

Given that Los Blancos have also slashed their asking price from £85 million to £70 million, as per the report, there is a real possibility that the South American, who has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool too, moves to the Premier League.

Spurs unlikely to be frontrunners for Rodrygo

Even though Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Rodrygo Goes and could afford a transfer for him, it might be too ambitious a thought for the Lilywhites, more so given that they would potentially be battling with Arsenal and possibly even Liverpool.

Admittedly, they won a trophy just two months back, but generally, they don’t have a very promising project yet. There have been constant changes in the managerial position and considering how their rivals have rebuilt lately, Spurs still lack a potent squad.

Arsenal and Liverpool will fancy themselves to sign Rodrygo over Spurs this summer. While the Reds might cool interest in him if they manage to land Alexander Isak, the Gunners might now turn their attention towards him having signed Viktor Gyokeres.

It will be interesting to see what eventually comes of Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid as some reliable reports in Spain continue to insist that the player wants to fight for his place under Xabi Alonso, while others state that he is set to leave.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘discussing internally’ the possibility of signing Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

After purchasing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, the Lilywhites prioritised revamping the attacking midfield position, and Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White was their primary target.

They thought they managed to secure his service by triggering his release clause, and the medical was already booked. However, the Reds accused the North London club of an illegal approach and threatened legal action.

Now, the 25-year-old has decided to stay at City Ground by signing a fresh term until 2028. Therefore, Tottenham have started exploring alternative options to strengthen the No.10 position.

On TBR Football, Bailey says that Tottenham have identified Elliott as a serious option and are ‘discussing internally’ about the possibility of making a move for him. The 22-year-old’s future is currently uncertain, having struggled to find regular game time last term, and Spurs have been keeping a close eye on his situation in recent months.

Liverpool are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee of around £50m with his existing deal set to run until 2027. However, he isn’t the only name on Spurs’ wishlist as Jacob Ramsey and James McAtee are also on it.

Elliott to Tottenham

McAtee emerged as a potential option for Forest to replace Gibbs-White, but they are unlikely to go for him after managing to keep hold of the former Wolves star.

The journalist states that, apart from Elliott, McAtee, and Ramsey, Alejandro Garnacho is also on Tottenham’s radar. However, he is a winger, and they might consider him alongside a new No.10.

Elliott is a versatile player as he is efficient in the right flank as well as the CAM role. Furthermore, he is comfortable in the box-to-box role in a midfield three. The youngster played a key part in England’s triumph in the U21 European Championship earlier this summer.

He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, the Liverpool star would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his service before the end of this transfer window.

Tottenham hold ‘genuine interest’ in signing João Palhinha

Tottenham hold ‘genuine interest’ in signing João Palhinha - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly hold a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After joining Fulham from Sporting CP, the 30-year-old established himself as one of the sought-after midfielders in the Premier League with his impressive performances.

Several big English clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool expressed their interest in him. However, Bayern Munich eventually managed to secure his service last summer.

But the Portuguese struggled to find regular game time at the Allianz Arena under Vincent Kompany last term, making only eight starts in the Champions League and Bundesliga. So, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging in this window.

On X, Romano reports that Tottenham hold a ‘genuine interest’ in Palhinha and have already made an initial approach to the player’s representatives to learn about the details of signing him.

Romano wrote:

“Tottenham have genuine interest in João Palhinha as an initial approach has been made with his camp. More will follow in the next weeks as there’s no formal proposal to Bayern yet.”

Palhinha to Tottenham

It has been suggested that following Palhinha’s struggle to find regular game time, Bayern Munich are ready to cash-in on him and are prepared to accept around £26m.

Tottenham’s midfield department include Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma, and Lucas Bergvall. However, the Uruguayan has had fitness problems over the years, while Bissouma was inconsistent last term.

On the other hand, Gray and Bergvall are still teenagers, and they need time to develop their careers. Therefore, signing a new experienced midfielder would be the right decision for Spurs, especially given that they have qualified for the Champions League next season.

Palhinha is a robust defensive midfielder and is an ideal player for the demands of the Premier League’s physicality. He has already proven his worth in the English top flight during his time with Fulham.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually decide to purchase Palhinha before the start of next season.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites played their first pre-season game against Reading last weekend and will travel to Hong Kong to face off against arch-rival Arsenal in another friendly game next week.

Description

Tottenham remain keen on signing Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Lilywhites endured a woeful campaign in the Premier League last campaign, finishing 17th, just one place above the relegated three teams. However, their disappointing campaign ended on a high note as they managed to win the Europa League title by defeating Manchester United in the final.

Despite that, Spurs decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, and Thomas Frank has been appointed as the new manager. However, the club’s hierarchy haven’t provided him with enough reinforcements thus far this summer to turn the situation around next season, with the new season only three weeks away.

Only Mohammed Kudus has been purchased from West Ham United, and Mathys Tel’s loan move has been made permanent. They also tried to sign Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest by triggering his £60m release clause.

However, the Reds have stopped the deal from happening as they feel Spurs came to know the player’s release clause illegally. The player’s medical was booked at the North London club, but he has been continuing his pre-season training under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Now, on TBR Football, Bailey says that although Forest want to keep hold of him, Tottenham remain keen on signing the midfielder. He is ready to join Spurs and has already told Santo’s side about his stance.

Gibbs-White to Tottenham

Forest want other clubs to join the race, and Manchester City were previously interested in him; however, they aren’t planning to go for him, and Spurs are the only club interested in him.

Forest have started exploring options to replace Gibbs-White with Man City youngster James McAtee on their radar. However, the player also has suitors in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund keen on him.

In 38 appearances in all competitions, Gibbs-White scored seven goals and registered eight assists last term. He also helped them qualify for the Champions League.

Gibbs-White is a hardworking, dynamic midfielder and has proven his worth in the Premier League in recent campaigns. So, he would be a great coup for Tottenham should they eventually manage to secure his service before the end of this transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur could trump West Ham to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz

Tottenham Hotspur could trump West Ham to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz is looking to leave the club this summer and skipped their most recent training session in an attempt to force his exit just 13 months after joining the Old Lady of Turin.

TBR Football has reported that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are interested in signing Luiz, although the player’s preference is to join the Lilywhites as he seeks a return to familiar pastures in England.

Luiz had a great career at Aston Villa, for whom he played a regular role in midfield. The Brazilian international’s wide skill-sets in the middle of the park held him in good stead at the club.

It has not quite worked for the 27-year-old at Juventus in the last year or so, as he has struggled to fit into their system and also adapt to life in Italy. Spurs are keen on the midfielder but his asking price will be key in deciding his fate.

Luiz’s cost will influence if he joins Spurs

After Douglas Luiz skipped the training session for Juventus, the Italians released a statement saying that they will take disciplinary action against him but no reference was made towards his future.

Considering they spent £42 million on him and also tied him down to a deal running until June 2029, Juve will look to recover most of their initial investment, particularly keeping in mind that they are not doing to well financially.

Tottenham Hotspur would be significantly bolstered by Luiz’s signing but it remains to be seen how much they are willing to pay for a 27-year-old player when their objective has been to reduce the average age of the squad.

Tottenham lead race ahead of Liverpool to sign Leoni

Tottenham lead race ahead of Liverpool to sign Leoni - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race ahead of Liverpool to sign Parma defender Giovanni Leoni, as per Caught Offside.

The Lilywhites have only purchased Mohammed Kudus thus far this summer since appointing Thomas Frank as the new manager. Additionally, they have made Mathys Tel’s loan move permanent. They tried to reinforce the CAM position by buying Morgan Gibbs-White, but the move is in major doubt.

Now, it appears the North London club have shifted their focus to strengthening the backline, having struggled with defensive frailties last term, conceding 65 goals in 38 Premier League games.

With Radu Dragusin struggling with a serious knee issue and Cristian Romero linked with a move away, signing a new centre-back would be the right decision.

Caught Offside claim that Tottenham have identified Leoni as a serious target after being impressed by his performances in Serie A last campaign. However, they aren’t the only clubs in this race as Liverpool and Newcastle United are also keen on him.

Leoni to Tottenham

The Lilywhites are looking to step up efforts by launching a formal proposal to seal the deal and are considered the frontrunners to win this race ahead of the Reds. Newcastle are ready to go head-to-head with Spurs over this deal and are also planning to make an official move.

The 18-year-old still has four years left in his current contract, and Parma have no intention of letting him leave for cheap. They want around £26m-£35m.

Liverpool want a new centre-back following Jarell Quansah’s departure, and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace has been linked with a move to Anfield. But they haven’t stepped up efforts to seal the deal yet, and Leoni is seemingly on their radar as well.

The Italian is a 6ft 5in tall right-footed defender and showcased glimpses of his high potential last term. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool or Tottenham with a view to the long-term future should either club purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure his service by defeating Arne Slot’s side and Newcastle in this race.

Tottenham join race to sign Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo

Tottenham join race to sign Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo this summer, according to Tuttojuve.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, but the presence of more established stars in the first team made it difficult to nail a starting berth.

He went on a four-season loan to Lens, where he established himself. Kalimuendo secured a permanent move to Rennes in 2022, where he has impressed with his performances, earning him six caps in Didier Deschamps’ senior France squad.

He was in prolific goalscoring form for Les Rouge et Noir last season, netting 18 goals across all competitions, and it’s no surprise several top European clubs, including Tottenham, have expressed interest in signing him.

According to Tuttojuve, Spurs have now entered the race to sign Kalimuendo this summer as Thomas Frank looks to bolster his frontline ahead of next season.

The France international has been given the green light to pursue a transfer ‘in the coming days,’ with Spurs set to rival LaLiga side Villarreal for his signature, as per the report.

However, the report adds that Rennes have no intention of letting their prized asset leave on the cheap and will demand up to £34m to agree to his departure. The French side are already lining up possible replacements should he depart the club.

Prolific forward

Thomas Frank’s emphasis on pace, fluidity, and off-the-ball movement in the final third makes Kalimuendo a potentially shrewd tactical addition.

His ability to stretch defences with direct runs and vertical threats aligns seamlessly with the fast-paced style embraced at Spurs.

Though not the most inventive in terms of chance creation, the 23-year-old is a forward who comes alive with service—and with the likes of James Maddison and the newly signed Mohammed Kudus supplying goalscoring chances from the midfield and wide areas, his sharp instincts in front of goal could truly shine in North London.

With the future of Richarlison yet to be resolved, Kalimuendo would not only be a sensible replacement but also an equally prolific centre-forward option alongside Dominic Solanke.
