Under-18s victorious in quarter-final at Bristol City - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

A dominant, professional display saw our youngsters advance to the semi-finals of the Under-18 Premier League Cup with a 3-0 win at Bristol City on Thursday night.

George Feeney’s early opener was added to by Reiss Elliott-Parris after a series of blocked shots in the box just beyond the half-hour mark, before Oliver Boast’s 10th Under-18s goal of the season at the start of the second period killed off the hosts’ challenge at the Robins High Performance Centre.

Bristol City weren’t without their chances, but we kept control in what was a physical battle at times and could have won by more than three in the end as we marched on into the last four.

Ronny Moncur’s corner kicks caused problems for the hosts and their goalkeeper Freddie Godden throughout the first half, while Elijah Upson went close with an early header before Feeney got us off the mark with 18 minutes played. Tyler Tingey’s throw-in from the right flank wasn’t dealt with, Feeney was alive to the situation to pinch the ball from their defence and he worked himself into a shooting position in the box before sliding home.

We doubled our lead on 31 minutes after a sustained attack, Moncur’s shot from Miracle Adewole’s cut-back saved by Godden and Boast’s effort on the follow-up blocked on the line by defender Pawel Kalkowski before Elliott-Parris drilled home the loose ball.

Adewole shot just beyond the far post from distance while Bristol City reminded us of their threats with Kalkowski and Luke Skinner firing off-target either side of the interval, but just over a minute into the second period we found a crucial third goal, Feeney winning the ball mid-way inside Bristol City’s half and sending Boast running into space in the right channel, the latter duly lashing into the net from the angle.

Boast could have scored again after pouncing on a mistake in defence a few moments later but he delayed his shot and saw his eventual effort charged down by Derrick Ababio. Elliott-Parris, Tingey, Moncur, Boast and substitute Armend Muslika all later went close to extending our lead, although goalkeeper Dylan Thompson was needed to make a stunning low save down to his right from Illan Wood in the last couple of minutes to preserve our clean sheet. That stop ensured we haven’t conceded a goal at this level since the FA Youth Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on 16 December.

Vicario leads Champions League golden glove - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Following Wednesday night's 2-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League, Guglielmo Vicario now leads the way in the Golden Glove after recording his sixth clean sheet across the eight league phase matches.

On a quiet evening for the Italian shot stopper, who didn't have a save to make in Germany, second-half goals from Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke got the job done down the other end to secure fourth spot and a direct place in the round of 16.

Despite not having to play a huge role in last night's success, our number one has certainly played his part during our impressive European campaign and has kept out more sides than any other goalkeeper at this stage of the competition.

Vic's journey to top spot through the league phase got off to the perfect start in our 1-0 home win over Villarreal on his Champions League debut before conceding twice in our 2-2 draw away to Bodo/Glimt on Matchday Two.

His next shutout came in the goalless draw in Monaco where he produced arguably one of his finest displays in a Spurs shirt. The Italy international was in inspired form between the sticks as he superbly kept the Ligue 1 side at bay and finished with a staggering nine saves - his low stop to deny Folarin Balogun the pick of the bunch - to claim the Player of the Match vote.

He added four saves to the tally after a consecutive clean sheet in a dominant 4-0 home success over FC Copenhagen followed on Matchday Four, before the second and final match he conceded in came in the frenetic 5-3 defeat to holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes.

Not letting another goal past him for the remaining three outings - Slavia Prague (3-0), Borussia Dortmund (2-0) and Frankfurt (2-0) - Vic ended the league phase with 25 saves and climbed above Arsenal's David Raya (five) to be the outright leader of the pack.

Newcastle United's Nick Pope (four) and Yann Sommer of Inter Milan (four) round off this season's current top four, with Inter's Sommer the only goalkeeper to better Vic's tally at this stage in the Champions League after his seven clean sheets in the 2024/25 league phase edition.

The making of a Lilywhite

Lucy Barraclough | The making of a Lilywhite - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

It’s always a daunting experience moving clubs at a young age, let alone hundreds of miles away from where you grew up – but defender Lucy Barraclough has relished the experience so far at Hotspur Way.

In the ‘Making of a Lilywhite’ series, we sat down with Lucy to talk about her footballing journey so far and get to know her a bit better…

Her early years in football…

“Football has always been part of my family. When I was younger, I used to play in the garden with my brother all the time, my grandad would play with us and, sometimes, all my cousins were involved too. From that, I realised I was quite good, so I started playing grassroots football when I was about six years old.

“I usually played in both boys’ and girls’ sides. I trained with the boys occasionally, but I competed in matches with girls. I played grassroots football a couple of years above my age for about three seasons, while also playing county football. I actually won Player of the League for a team while playing two years above my age. I was smaller than everyone else, so winning that meant a lot to me. I was absolutely buzzing!

“When I got to around Under-9s, I trained with Manchester United through their development programme, as they didn’t have an age group at that level. Later, I signed properly and was there through Under-10s, before moving to Manchester City, where I stayed for about five years.

Moving to north London and joining Spurs…

“I have really liked it [moving down to London]. It’s very different from Manchester, but in a good way. We have a flat in London, so we go back and forth. My mum works in London, which helps, but my parents have always been really supportive and willing to do whatever they can to help me with football.

“We were just looking at different options [prior to joining Spurs] and we didn’t want to limit ourselves geographically. My parents were willing to do whatever it took to help me progress in football. Spurs felt right because of the coaches and the overall environment.

“The whole experience has been great so far, I’ve really enjoyed it. I feel like I’ve come a long way - both as a player and as a person. The coaches, especially Nick [Hardy], have helped me improve a lot and taught me things I want to carry with me in the future.

First team experience…

“It was really good. It helped me improve a lot and boosted my confidence. Everything is quicker and more intense, and it’s a lot more serious. I was nervous at first - especially when I was the only younger player involved - but it was a great learning experience. When I later played with the Under-19s, I felt sharper and more confident because of it.

“Growing up, I was mainly a winger. I even played as a number 10 for a while. When I was at City, they had lots of midfielders, so I was kept out wide. At Liverpool, they played with wing backs, which is where I started transitioning into a full-back. I really enjoy being there now and seeing the experienced players in training allow me to see areas where I can improve my game even further. It's all about learning and building myself while trying to make an impact in the Academy set-up.”

Thomas Frank on Kolo Muani: “The players know when you need that goal”

Thomas Frank on Kolo Muani: “The players know when you need that goal” - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Thomas Frank expressed his delight after Randal Kolo Muani’s goal against Eintracht Frankfurt – and gave us the reasoning behind starting him instead of Dominic Solanke, a big decision that paid dividends in Germany on Wednesday evening.

We witnessed Randal at his best when we faced his parent club PSG earlier in the UEFA Champions League – two goals and an assist as we went down 5-3 against the holders in Paris in November.

Facing another former club – Randal made his name in his spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, 26 goals in 50 matches, 2022-2024 – the France international struck again, this time the crucial opener as we chased the win that would secure a place in the Round of 16 of the competition.

It was job done as Dominic came off the bench to score the second goal and our 2-0 win secured fourth in the league phase and that coveted path directly into the Round of 16, therefore missing February’s play-off round. We will face one of four teams – Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Juventus or Atletico Madrid - in March.

The players’ celebrations after Randal’s opener said a lot. “The players know,” Thomas told us afterwards. “They know how it is to be in difficult spells. They know when you're coming to a club and you're not performing to your top level, and you need to score that goal, so they're just happy on his behalf of course. That's nice.

“I'm very happy Kolo scored the goal, very happy for him. I said to him it would be nice if he also chipped in with some goals against not only his former clubs! I did that with a smile on my face, of course, because there's nothing he wants more than that. So, I'm very happy with that.

“Of course, it was a tough decision to not start with Dom, but it was absolutely the right decision. Now it's in hindsight when we won, everything’s perfect, but we just pushed him (Dom), he pushed himself to more than the limit. So, it's the right thing to have him coming and also just be able to produce again. So, happy for Kolo, happy for Dom coming on and scoring - just a good night.”

Xavi your Player of the Match against Eintracht Frankfurt

Description

Earlier, knowing victory would seal a top eight finish in the league phase table, Xavi was denied the dream start when he sent in Randal's parried cross just three minutes in but Destiny Udogie was deemed to be interfering with play in an offside position in the build-up.

With Xavi and Wilson Odobert operating in the No 10 pockets behind frontman Randal, the attacking trio combined nicely throughout the first half which led to Wilson rattling the post on 29 minutes before our number seven was gifted the ball by goalkeeper Kaua Santos inside the area but the stopper kept out the Dutchman's attempt two minutes later.

Goalless at the break, we then found the deserved breakthrough two minutes into the second half when Xavi's pinpoint deep cross from the left channel was headed back across the six-yard box by Cristian Romero and Randal was on hand to turn the ball into the net from close range against his former club.

The second-half chances kept stacking up for us as we looked to press home our advantage. Pape Matar Sarr, after a sumptuous piece of skill from Xavi in the build-up, saw his low drive tipped round the post before the Dutch international had a deflected effort that rolled agonisingly wide of the post.

Dom, four minutes after entering the action, then sealed the win in the 77th minute with an accurate finish into the bottom corner to secure a fourth-placed finish and send us to the round of 16.

Upon his return to Germany, ex-RB Leipzig player Xavi pulled the strings throughout a tireless 90-minute display in Frankfurt and these impressive stats highlight just how important he was to last night's success. The midfielder completed all three of his attempted dribbles and drew five fouls, backing that up by creating three chances and misplacing just five of his 67 passes throughout the contest.

Whilst a silky operator on the ball, he also put in a proper shift out of possession to finish with a 73 per cent success rate in his ground duels and made seven ball recoveries, capping off another excellent performance to claim consecutive Player of the Match awards in Europe.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Spurs, UEFA Champions League | Every word of Thomas Frank's post-match press conference - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Thomas Frank spoke to the media at Deutsche Bank Park after our 2-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in MD8 of the UEFA Champions League, securing our place in the Round of 16 in March.

Here's what he had to say...

Job done, a professional performance - what was the most pleasing aspect of it for you?

Thomas: "I think, first of all, very happy for the performance. I think the players showed great character, their mentality. We basically had 12 available players for Borussia Dortmund and in this game and in both games, the players stepped up. In this game, we were more or less in control from the beginning to the end of the game. I think that's a big thing. I need to say, we've seen some of the results in the Champions League tonight. We've seen some of the results throughout the league phase. There's no easy games. So, we're sitting here with 17 points, ending, finishing fourth in the group stage, six clean sheets - I think it's very impressive, but throughout the game today, we were good in the high pressure. I think we looked strong when we defended low, I'm very happy how we progressed with the ball and how we got quick up the pitch. We're still working on creating, but I think we created quite a lot today, which I'm very pleased with. So, yeah, very, very happy with that. Then, of course, the fans I think were fantastic, very happy, so many of them travelling in numbers and the support throughout the game."

On a personal note, this is your first time ever managing the Champions League, you've taken a side through in fourth place, the likes of Real Madrid, Inter and PSG have to go into the play-off round now. Can you take some personal pride in that?

Thomas: "Yeah, of course I'm happy, but it's not about me. I'm very happy that the staff, the players, everyone, how we prepared the team for these games in general, I think is very positive. We need to look forward to the Round of 16, which is hugely important that you are qualified, for everything, but also gives us some time between games to train. I also think, let's say, the 3-4-3 also looked good in the last three games."

Randal Kolo Muani - another goal against a former club. How do you get him playing like that week in, week out in the Premier League?

Thomas: "First of all, I was very happy that he scored the goal. I think, actually, he looked like a threat. He almost got an assist with the first one that was disallowed. He was very involved in that, great action. I think he has had great actions throughout the game. So, I'm very happy that he got the goal and I said to him, please start scoring against others than your former clubs, that would be nice! We know when you come to a new club, a new country, it's never straight forward and never in the Premier League. I hope this will give him some confidence."

How much does Dominic Solanke's goal back up your decision to bring him back into the (UCL) squad?

Thomas: "Yeah, I'm so happy not only to have him in the Champions League squad, but also it was a tough decision. It was a big game tonight and I wanted to start Dom, but we need to take clever decisions like we've done throughout, because we have been pushing him to the limit. So, we know every sign, every experience says that it was the right thing not to start him. I'm happy that it turned out to be a very good decision."

Given the context and what it means, where do you rate that performance in terms of the season? It must be one of the best?

Thomas: "Yeah, you say the context, everything, I think it was overall a good performance. I think it was actually, as you say, a quite complete performance - how we defended in high pressure, how we defended in low pressure, how we controlled the ball, the chances we created, all that I think looked very good."

With Kolo Muani and what happened yesterday, was there any chance of him not coming in? Had circumstances been different, if you had more players, might you have not brought him out here because of the accident?

Thomas: "No, he was ready. Of course, if there was any doubt that he couldn't play, then we wouldn't have done it. He was fine and no physical aspect or mental aspect from the accident."

There's five English teams in the top eight - what does that say about the Premier League? That is quite a dominant position...

Thomas: "I haven't checked that, but that is dominant. I think we've all said for a few years that the Premier League is the best league in the world, and I think that's another sign of it, no doubt about that."
