Sowunmi joins Academy - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

We’re delighted to announce the signing of Elisha Sowunmi, who joins our Academy from West Ham United.

The 18-year-old forward joined the Hammers in the Under-8s and progressed through their youth system, turning professional last summer.

Capable of playing out wide or as a number 10, Elisha was top scorer for West Ham’s Under-18s last season – his tally including hat-tricks against Reading and Aston Villa – and helped them win the Under-18 Premier League Cup.

Following his arrival at Hotspur Way, he links up with our Under-21s squad and is eligible to play in tonight’s Premier League 2 fixture against Everton.

Welcome, Elisha!

Team news | Thomas Frank’s latest on Pedro Porro and Richarlison - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Thomas Frank has given an update on the potential return from injury of both Pedro Porro and Richarlison.

Pedro picked up a hamstring issue in the first half of our 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday and was withdrawn at half-time at Turf Moor. Thomas reported earlier in the week that the full-back would be ‘out for four weeks’.

Meanwhile, Richarlison also suffered a hamstring injury in our FA Cup clash against Villa on 10 January, forcing him out of the action on 31 minutes. Thomas reported at the time that the striker could be out for ‘up to seven weeks’.

Speaking to the media at his pre-City press conference at Hotspur Way on Friday, Thomas was asked if Pedro and Richy could make it back for the north London derby on 22 February. “That could be a dream scenario, and it just could happen,” said Thomas. “We will know a little bit more when we get closer - but it's in that bracket.”

Team news | Thomas Frank ‘hopeful’ on Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke ‘ready to start’ against City - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Thomas Frank has reiterated that Micky van de Ven’s injury is ‘minor’ and declared the centre-back ‘touch and go’ to face Manchester City on Sunday (4.30pm UK).

A goalscorer at Burnley last weekend, Micky missed our midweek trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League with the issue, Joao Palhinha stepped into the back three alongside Cuti Romero and Kevin Danso.

Asked for the latest on Micky at his pre-City press conference at Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon, Thomas responded: “Micky is a minor one. He will be touch and go for Sunday. We're hoping. He was on the pitch yesterday, on the pitch today. So, hopeful for that, but it's touch and go.”

Speaking later about Dominic Solanke’s fitness – the striker a goalscorer off the bench in Germany as he builds up his match minutes after six months out – Thomas said: “Like always, there's a lot of thought process and analysis behind every decision we try to make in team selection. Of course, it was tough not to bring Dom in again in a very important game, but all signs, all my experience, told me that it's not the right thing to do that. Kolo did very well and then Dom came on and killed the game for us. He's still building, but he's ready to start on Sunday.”

Otherwise, Thomas will have a number of players available again after being ineligible for Eintracht Frankfurt – Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin, Conor Gallagher, Mathys Tel and Souza – but we're without the services of a host of longer-term injured players - Pedro Porro, Richarlison, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, Mo Kudus, Deki Kulusevski, Rodri Bentancur and Ben Davies are all sidelined.

England’s record against the Hammers

West Ham vs Spurs (WSL) | Key stats | England’s record against the Hammers - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Bethany England will be hoping to continue her impressive Women’s Super League record against West Ham United when we make the trip to Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 11.55am).

Becoming a Lilywhite in January, 2023, our captain has scored more goals in the WSL against the Hammers than any other player – 10 in total – with five of those coming for us.

Her last strike over our London rivals came in the season opener back in September, where she showed composure to net a late penalty to secure a 1-0 win at Brisbane Road.

With five goals to her name this campaign in all competitions, the joint-highest in our goalscoring charts with Olivia Holdt, our number nine certainly loves a London derby as she’s the all-time top goalscorer in those fixtures in the WSL, finding the back of the net on 18 occasions to date.

Back on the road once again in the WSL, we’ll be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s heartbreak in Liverpool where two stoppage-time goals from Mia Enderby condemned us to a 2-0 defeat on Merseyside.

Having faced the Hammers in 13 meetings in England’s top flight, we have come out on top in seven of those, but our last trip to Chigwell Construction Stadium in March, 2025, saw us suffer a 2-0 loss – our first to the Hammers in five games in the competition.

Rita Guarino’s side do come into the London derby this weekend on the back off an important 2-1 victory at Leicester City – just their second league victory of the campaign – but remain one point ahead of bottom-side Liverpool.

Here are some other headline pre-match facts, courtesy of Opta, ahead of the London derby:

Following their 2-1 victory over Leicester City last time out on MD13, West Ham United are seeking to win successive Women’s Super League matches for the first time since January/February, 2024.

West Ham United have lost each of their last five WSL London derbies, since a 7-1 victory over Crystal Palace in April last year. Indeed, the Hammers have suffered more London derby defeats than any other side in the competition (34, ahead of us – 25).

West Ham United manager Rita Guarino achieved her first ever victory in the Women’s Super League last time out in what was her second game in the competition (P2 W1 L1), with no Hammers boss ever winning two of their opening three WSL matches.

West Ham United manager Rita Guarino achieved her first ever victory in the Women’s Super League last time out in what was her second game in the competition (P2 W1 L1), with no Hammers boss ever winning two of their opening three WSL matches. Indeed, Matt Beard is the only previous West Ham manager to avoid defeat in two of their first three (W1 D1 L1).

We have outperformed their Expected Points (xP) by the biggest margin in the Women’s Super League this season (16.7 xP, 23 points, +6.3), while Spurs also have the joint-highest overperformance of their expected goals against figure (xGA) in the competition (22.8 xGA, 18 goals conceded, +4.8 – alongside Chelsea).

Super Jan back in N17 on Sunday - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Jan Vertonghen returns to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as our special guest for the Premier League clash against Manchester City (4.30pm UK).

One of our great players of the modern era, 315 appearances in all competitions between 2012-2020, Jan will relive some wonderful Spurs memories when he speaks to Paul Coyte at half-time.

Jan is one of only 17 players to reach 200-plus appearances for us in the Premier League and one of only 10 to make over 50 appearances for us in Europe, his 56 currently seventh in our all-time list. He's also Belgium's record appearance maker with 157 caps between 2007-2024, including winning bronze at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Gallery | Jan's eight years at Spurs

Before Spurs, Jan joined Ajax's famed Academy in 2003 before signing professional terms in 2006. He went on to play over 200 times in all competitions for them, landing the Eredivisie title in 2011 and 2012. A regular captain of the team, Jan was also named Dutch Player of the Year in 2012.

Forming a formidible central defensive partnership with compatriot Toby Alderweireld, Jan made 120 appearances of a possible 152 as we finished third, runners-up, third and fourth in the Premier League between 2015/16 and 2018/19.

He also started 10 of 13 matches as we reached the UEFA Champions League Final against Liverpool in 2019, producing one of the great performances topped with a goal as we beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the Round of 16, first leg at Wembley.

Jan signed off with appearance 315 against Newcastle during the Premier League's return in the 2020 COVID pandemic at St James’ Park on 15 July, 2020. Sadly, there were no fans at his final matches in Lilywhite.

After Spurs, he had spells at Benfica - where he won the Primeira Liga title in 2022/23 - and Anderlecht, where he played for two seasons before retiring at the end of 2024/25.

That night against Dortmund...

Jan says goodbye - 2020

Jan's words on leaving us in the summer of 2020 summed up his feelings for the club...

“The Club means so much,” he told us. “From the first day I got here the people welcomed me and it felt like home. I was actually on the bench for my first game but after that, being able to play, being able to be important for the Club, with friends, it’s a very special feeling.

“I came here every day and it was just like I was hanging out with my friends and playing football. That feeling is very hard to describe. It just felt like enjoying my job, and that was very special.

“I always felt great in the environment, with the supporters, and always felt appreciated by them. My family settled in London, my kids being born here... I will always have good memories."

White Hart Lane

On the Weaver line, 5 services are expected to call at White Hart Lane in both directions before and after the game, with services operating between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town/Cheshunt.

Supporters travelling to Liverpool Street post-match are reminded that Northumberland Park services have greater capacity and frequency to those at White Hart Lane, and the journey time should be shorter as there are fewer stops.

White Hart Lane is a fully accessible station.

CLICK HERE to view the southbound Weaver line timetable...

Northumberland Park

If travelling on Greater Anglia services, we recommend using Northumberland Park as it is a shorter distance to the stadium than Tottenham Hale.

The following services will be in operation through Northumberland Park on Sunday:

Pre-match northbound: 9 trains per hour

Post-match northbound: 8 trains per hour, including 3 Stansted Express services

Pre-match southbound: 10 trains per hour, including 4 Stansted Express services

CLICK HERE to view the full Greater Anglia timetable...

Tottenham Hale

Supporters travelling on the Victoria line are encouraged to use Tottenham Hale rather than Seven Sisters as it is a shorter journey to and from the stadium. Victoria line services will operate every 2-3 minutes in both directions before and after the game.

There will also be 12 Greater Anglia services per hour operating in each direction through Tottenham Hale, including 4 Stansted Express trains each way. We recommend using Northumberland Park for Greater Anglia services as it is a shorter distance to the stadium than Tottenham Hale.

Seven Sisters

Victoria line services will be operating every 2-3 minutes in each direction before and after the game.

Pre-match, a diversion route will be in place at Birstall Road for pedestrians entering Seven Sisters station for interchange between the Victoria line and London Overground services. This is to avoid congestion on the northbound platform.

We encourage supporters to consider using Tottenham Hale for Victoria Line services as it is a shorter distance to the stadium than Seven Sisters.

Queue management

Queue management systems will be in place at all stations for the safety of all passengers and staff.

At each station, the queue management staff are in contact with the Station Managers who will confirm when platforms are clear to enable more passengers to enter the station. For the safety of all passengers and staff, supporters are kindly asked to cooperate with station staff and always follow their instructions.

Shuttle buses

The Club operates a free Shuttle Bus service from Wood Green (Piccadilly Line) and Alexandra Palace (Great Northern) stations to the stadium.

The Piccadilly line is expected to operate with services every 2-3 minutes in both directions throughout the day.

Due to engineering works as part of the East Coast Digital Programme, there will be no Great Northern services through Alexandra Palace this weekend, with a limited capacity rail replacement bus service in operation. Archie Gray on Xavi Simons: "He's a joy, a pleasure to play with"

Archie Gray on Xavi Simons: "He's a joy, a pleasure to play with" - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Archie Gray was full of praise for Xavi Simons after another impressive display as we toppled Eintracht Frankfurt to book a place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

In a fine team performance, Xavi pulled the strings in the forward areas, always wanting the ball, always involved, always looking for key passes between the lines against the Bundesliga side on Wednesday evening.

The Dutch playmaker had a goal disallowed after two minutes at Deutsche Bank Park, set up Wilson Odobert's effort that hit the post, beat two players in the box only to be denied by Kaua Santos and continued to provide inspirational moments in the second half - a backheel to set up Pape's effort, also saved by Kaua Santos - as Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke secured the 2-0 win.

Backing him up in central midfield, Pape Matar Sarr and Archie, who, as always, just went about his business with no fuss, such a vital cog in Thomas Frank's 3-4-3 system.

Speaking to us about Xavi at DB Park, Archie said: "He's a joy, we just see each other and you know, I trust everyone so much, but when I give the ball to him, I know he'll trust me back just as much.

"We try to get those link-ups, one-touch, two-touch passes. He's a pleasure to play with getting in those spaces, so difficult to pick up and for centre-backs to try and track him. It must be horrible for them!"

An absolute football fan through and through, from footballing royalty, the Gray family in Leeds, Archie's sheer delight at playing on European football's biggest stage is almost tangible - not least being part of a team finishing fourth in the league phase.

"I mean, it's a kid's dream," he said. "I was just saying to Dom, we've just seen the table, finishing top four in the Champions League, we'll never take that for granted. You see the teams in the Champions League, it's the best of the best and that's where we want to be. It was unbelievable tonight - now let's carry it into the Premier League."

UEFA Champions League play-off draw confirmed

UEFA Champions League play-off draw confirmed - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

The four potential teams we could face in the UEFA Champions League last 16 have now discovered their knockout phase play-off opponent following the draw on Friday.

Juventus have been drawn Galatasaray whilst Atletico Madrid will face Club Brugge over two legs on 16-18 and 23-25 February.

After finishing 13th and 14th respectively, Juventus and Atletico are the seeded pair and will have the home advantage in the second leg.

The play-off round draw also determined which pathway (silver/blue) these teams are now on, so with Galatasaray and Juventus drawn first they are on the silver side and Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid the blue.

The winners of the two play-off round matches will then progress to the round of 16 knowing they will face either us or Liverpool at that stage.

Whilst this draw doesn't impact us just yet, the next key date from a Spurs perspective is Friday 27 February when the round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final draws take place to determine our opponent and pathway, before the last-16 ties take place across 10-11 and 17-18 March.
