While it has been an impressive start to our Barclays Women’s Super League campaign, Eveliina Summanen is just focusing on the next game.
An all-important 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, after Cathinka Tandberg’s third goal in Lilywhite separated the two sides at Brisbane Road, saw us climb to third in the WSL table.
Claiming our fourth win from our opening five games, Martin Ho’s impressive start as Head Coach continues, but next up is last season’s league winners, Chelsea, on Sunday (12 October) at Kingsmeadow – as we sit within one point of our London rivals.
Midfielder Eveliina has been an ever-present in Ho’s starting XI so far, starting in all five games, and while she highlighted the importance of getting the three points against the Seagulls, she wants us to remain focused on ourselves ahead of this weekend’s derby.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the Brighton win, Eveliina told us: “We had a good first half, got the goal, and then obviously there were some harder times in the second half.
“But we got the clean sheet and three points - and that’s the most important thing in front of our home fans.
“I think we just need to keep focusing on ourselves,” she said. “There’s still a lot of work to do in the way we play — we want to be a little bit better every single week.
“As long as we focus on ourselves, we’ve got a good chance to get a win and a clean sheet against Chelsea. Why not?”
The narrow 1-0 victory over the Seagulls showcased another resolute and disciplined defensive performance as we claimed our third clean sheet in five games – bettering our tally of two in the 2024/25 season.
“We definitely need to work on managing the whole 90 minutes and having a bit more control throughout the game,” she added, when asked about the defensive performance. “But at the end of the day, we put bodies on the line in our own box and prevented all the tough chances from them. So, a clean sheet is always good.”
Match winner Mo Kudus immediately shone the spotlight on Mathys Tel after our 2-1 win against Leeds United on Saturday.
Mo drilled home a fine winner at Elland Road – his first goal for us – and was a constant threat down our right, typically relishing what, at times, and as expected, was a physical battle against a team unbeaten on home soil in league action for over a year.
He also provided the assist for Mathys’ opener in the first half, feeding in the pacy French international in the right channel after Rodri Bentancur won possession. Mathys did the rest, driving into the box and firing home via a slight deflection.
It was his first goal this season, indeed, since April, and the spotlight had been on the youngster both after being left out of our UEL squad, how he would react, and in his role as the central striker – Thomas Frank spoke beforehand that he felt he was ‘what we need for the game today’ and after the final whistle, highlighted his progression in games against West Ham and Doncaster and now his contribution to a big, big win.
Mo was quick to add to the plaudits. “I want to give big praise to Mathys because I think it's been a tough month, but how he carries himself, training… he's a top, top professional,” he said. “I think you can see today when he got his chance, he was there.
“It shows how professional he is, the way he composes himself, manages himself, trains. He's still young and with this mentality, it's really going to help him go far. I hope that this first goal he has scored is going to open more doors for even better games and more goals coming ahead. I'm really, really proud of him today.”

The Barclays Women’s Super League broadcast selection has been confirmed for matchday nine, with our clash with Arsenal on Sunday 16 November selected for television coverage.
This means that kick-off at Brisbane Road moves to a slightly later time, with the match now set to begin at 2.30pm.
The north London derby will be televised on Sky Sports.
Tickets are now on sale for supporters for our highly anticipated clash with the Gunners as we encourage our loyal fanbase to turn Brisbane Road into Lilywhite.
From making an impact at senior level to shining in Academy football, it has been a unique journey for Under-19s star Mia Endacott.
Having made her senior debut for Plymouth Argyle at the age of 16, the young forward joined our Academy in the summer of 2024 and impressed in her first year, racking up 21 goal involvements in 29 games. She has since been named captain of the Under-19s side for this campaign, while having stepped up for first team training over pre-season.
In our new series, which appears first & exclusively in our matchday programme, we sat down with Mia to talk about her journey to becoming a Lilywhite…
First taste of football…
“I always grew up around football. It was a family thing where we very much driven by sport. It got to a point where I was constantly at the track with my mum and while she was training, my cousin started playing football and, you know what you sort of latch onto something, I started to have a kick about with my cousin and my mum could see I really enjoyed it.
“She took me to my first session, a little kickers session, and I just loved it. So, I did that alongside athletics for a while and it then got to a point where I had to choose, so I opted with football when I was 12 years old.”
Making her mark in Argyle colours
“It was my first year with the Under-16s where you start to get exposure to the first team and training alongside them. Then when I turned 16 years old, I then signed for the senior squad. It was obviously a big achievement, signing for a Women’s team at that age, but they had been such a big part of my journey and it got me to where I am today.
“The step from Under-16s to senior football at tier three level was big but it was beneficial, it has shaped me into who I am today. It helped me improve in the areas I needed to, before senior football I was very good physically, but I had to develop that area of my game even further when I made the step up.”
Moving away from home…
“It was a big step for me, having to move away from my family, but I think the girls and coaches have made it such an easy transition. I felt at home as soon as I walked through the day.
“My mum has pushed me to be the best version of myself from day one and with me being nearly four hours away from any of my family, it should have been difficult but she has made it so easy for me. I’m on the phone to her for three hours a night usually… she can’t get rid of me!”
Academy life and first team opportunities…
“When looking back at my first year in the Academy, I felt the technical and tactical knowledge of the game was something that I learnt. The PGA is very different to senior football, to any football I have really played, so there was a lot of growth and development.
“It’s obviously brilliant to get those opportunities to train with the first team. You learn so much whenever you get exposed to the first team and picking up certain stuff from players that you don’t see in the PGA. It’s obviously a lot quicker, higher tempo and it challenges you and brings the best out of you.”
Belief is key for Mathys Tel.
The forward lashed home his first goal of the season in our 2-1 win against Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday, with his performance and attitude drawing praise from Thomas Frank and team-mates.
Thomas pointed towards Mathys’ ‘progression’ playing in the central attacking role against West Ham, Doncaster and now Leeds, where he raced onto Mo Kudus’ pass, drove to the box and fired home - his first goal since April.
“It's about always believing in what you want to do,” he told us afterwards. “I always believe, every day. Even if I have bad moments, good moments, I always believe. Today I just took the opportunity to show what I can do and I'm very happy.”
Thomas said in interviews before kick-off that Mathys was ‘what we need’ for Leeds. “I don't know, but I always try to do my best,” responded Mathys. “I helped the team with the goal today. We won. Even if something can be better, I'm very happy about the win. We got the three points. We did it also for the fans, for the club. I think we deserved to win this game.”
It was also Mathys first visit to the always boisterous Elland Road, where Leeds had been unbeaten in league action for over a year. “Everybody said to me, when you go to Leeds, the game is going to be very difficult,” he said. “That's what I saw today. It was a tough game for us, but like I said, we showed a big mentality. We worked all together, from the first minute until the last. I'm very happy and we need to keep going.”

Academy defenders Elijah Upson and Harry Byrne have this month earned their first international call-ups, with the pair selected to represent England Under-18s and Republic of Ireland Under-19s respectively.
Centre-back Elijah, son of ex-Premier League player and senior Three Lions star Matthew Upson, joins up with England’s youth team after a terrific start to the season for us.
Having captained our Under-18s in the opening weeks of the campaign, the 17-year-old was outstanding on his debut for our Under-21s in their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the end of September and also impressed on his first start in the UEFA Youth League last week as we secured a 6-0 victory at Bodo/Glimt.
Elijah joins Jun’ai Byfield and Tynan Thompson in the England Under-18s squad for back-to-back home friendlies against France this week.
A left-back or central midfielder, Harry joins the Republic of Ireland’s ranks at Under-19 level after continuing to impress for our Academy sides.
A regular starter in the Under-18 Premier League throughout last term, he has shaken off an injury picked up in pre-season to star in the UEFA Youth League so far this campaign, bagging a superb goal and an assist in last week’s 6-0 win in Bodo. He also supplied an assist in our 5-3 home victory over Villarreal last month.
He’ll travel with Ireland’s youngsters for consecutive friendlies away to Albania this week.
Congratulations to both Elijah and Harry!
In addition, Under-18s winger Leon Myrtaj joins up with Hungary Under-19s for the first time during this international window, having previously represented Albania up to Under-17 level.
Qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues apace over the next fortnight, with a number of our players set to feature for their respective nations.
In addition to the competitive action, there are a handful of international friendlies taking place, with some of our home nations players potentially set to collide when Djed Spence – in the England squad for the second consecutive month – finds himself in opposition to Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson when England host Wales at Wembley. Ben is currently on 98 caps for Wales and could reach his century in next week’s World Cup qualifier at home to Belgium.
A further all-Spurs clash could happen when on-loan Manor Solomon’s Israel visit Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie’s Italy in World Cup qualifying next week.
Elsewhere, on-loan defender Luka Vuskovic is back in the senior Croatia squad after spending September’s international window with their Under-21s, while Academy defenders Elijah Upson and Harry Byrne have earned their first international call-ups for England Under-18s and the Republic of Ireland Under-19s respectively. Fellow Academy player Leon Myrtaj, meanwhile, joins up with Hungary Under-19s for the first time, having previously represented Albania at youth level.
