Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a late-window move to sign Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams, as they close in on the signing of Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye.
Tottenham had high expectations coming into the season after spending almost £400m bringing in the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Savinho and Omar Marmoush, but so far their two Premier League matches against Brentford and Newcastle United have produced no points and no goals.
Spurs look set to take their summer spend beyond the £400m mark as they close in on a £60m deal to sign Ndiaye from the Toffees, to complete a new-look forward line, with Richarlison expected to move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a separate deal.
The north London outfit may not be done yet though, with just over 48 hours until the window slams shut on Tuesday night, as they eye a move for a full-back to provide some competition for Pedro Porro.
The Spanish World Cup winner started on the right wing against the Magpies with Archie Gray behind him in the right-back spot, but it was an experiment that failed to pay off.
It seems clear that Porro must return to his natural spot against Nottingham Forest next time out, and that Spurs need to bring in a natural right-back to provide some competition for the 26-year-old, rather than playing Gray out of position.
According to the i Paper, Forest are facing a late fight to keep hold of Williams, who is a target for Tottenham, and they are considering replacements for the Wales international if their Premier League rivals firm up their interest.
Williams Deal Would be Ideal Finish to Tottenham's Window
While Tottenham have got off to a poor start in the Premier League, it isn't a huge surprise that these players are still learning how to play with each other after wholesale changes during the summer.
The other side of things is that after spending more than £400m, should the Ndiaye deal be finalised, pressure is on for instant improvement and results.
That is the worrying thing from what we've seen so far from Tottenham on the pitch, as there doesn't seem to be much improvement from the side we saw in a relegation battle at the end of last season.
The addition of Williams would give the squad a further boost, given he has proven he is a strong Premier League performer in recent seasons.
The 2025-26 season wasn't the finest for Forest either, but Williams was their standout performer as he picked up the Player of the Season award.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has certainly been impressed with what he's seen from the 25-year-old since leaving Anfield in 2022, speaking on TNT Sports on Saturday.
"He comes in of a morning, he does everything right. He's very professional, he's a winner.
He's very aggressive, he's a competitor. We already know he's got the talent. If you've got everything around you, your talent, you can play at this level and you can stay at this level.
"I still think he hasn't hit his ceiling yet. I still think he's at an age where he can go to the next level, with experience, and time and more games.
"He's playing out of position. He's doing an incredible job on the left side. Can you imagine what he'd be like if he played on the right side?
"For me, he's a fantastic full-back. And I'm not just saying it, and I apologise to the Forest fans, Liverpool should have kept him."
