Andy Robertson is poised to stay at Liverpool with the Reds at present not in a position to consider the sale of the left-back.
Tottenham Hotspur had opened preliminary talks with Liverpool over signing Robertson ahead of next Monday's transfer deadline, with reports suggesting the deal was in the region of £5million for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Reds looked at recalling Kostas Tsimikas from a season-long loan at Roma to provide cover for first-choice left-back Milos Kerkez, although it's understood the Serie A side were reluctant to approve the move.
And having now assessed their options in the position, Liverpool have determined they were not able to proceed with any transfer for Robertson.
It means the Scotland international - who had not agitated for a move away from Anfield - is now expected to play out the remainder of the season on Merseyside before, as it stands, leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
The 31-year-old revealed earlier this month that talks had taken place with the Reds hierarchy over a new contract but no resolution had yet been reached.
Despite the news emerging last week that Tottenham were in discussions over a transfer, Robertson was included in Arne Slot's matchday squad for the Premier League clash at Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
And the Liverpool vice-captain was given a rousing reception from the away supporters when being introduced at half-time for Kerkez in a game the Reds lost 3-2.
The decision not to entertain a sale for Robertson comes at a time when Liverpool are stretched in defence.
Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are out for the season, Joe Gomez was forced off through injury at Bournemouth, and Ibrahima Konate has missed the last two matches following the death of his father.
It meant Wataru Endo had to partner skipper Virgil van Dijk at centre-back for the majority of the match, while Dominik Szoboszlai ended the game at right-back after Jeremie Frimpong was replaced.
