Former Leeds United defender Archie Gray has sent an emotional message to Son Heung-min after the forward confirmed he would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Son, 33, said in a press conference that he has made the decision to depart Spurs after ten years in north London. The South Korea international has scored 173 goals and provided 101 assists in 454 appearances for Tottenham following his £22 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015.

However, Son's time at Spurs is coming to an end. The former Hamburg man, who made his final Tottenham appearance against Newcastle United on Sunday, has agreed to make the £15m switch to LAFC.

And Gray, who has been Son's teammate at Tottenham for the last 12 months, sent a heartwarming message to the forward on Instagram. "Thankyou sonny for everything! Gray said.

"You’ve helped me so much since I came to spurs and being able to share the pitch and train with you everyday was a dream come true but as amazing a footballer you are, your an even better person, who supported everyone of his teammates and staff and lead by example everyday! Thankyou for everything.

"Everyone will miss you," alongside a one eye crying face emoji, white love heart emoji and a goat emoji.

Gray came through the ranks at Leeds and enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in 2023/24, making his debut on the opening weekend against Cardiff City before featuring 44 times in the Championship.

However, Gray couldn't help Leeds back to the Premier League. The Whites ended up losing in the play-off final against Southampton at Wembley, with Gray playing the entire 90 minutes.

He decided to leave Leeds that summer in favour of a £40m move to Tottenham. Brentford were among the other teams interested but Gray had his heart set on a switch to Spurs.

While Tottenham endured a miserable Premier League campaign, it's a decision that has looked to have paid off for Gray as Spurs won the Europa League and therefore booked their place in the Champions League.

Spurs face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup next Wednesday and Gray could be involved for Thomas Frank's side. After that, Tottenham take on Burnley in the Premier League.
