Micky van de Ven and Tottenham could be about to make some progress on new contract talks after Cristian Romero led the way.
Tottenham Hotspur have had standout performers this season in new signings such as Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus.
However, no Spurs player has reached the level of Micky van de Ven, who is on fire in every department.
The centre-back has continued to be rock solid at the heart of the Tottenham defence and he is the club’s top goalscorer, finding the net six times already.
Van de Ven’s most recent effort will be remembered for many years to come, as he tore through the majority of Copehagen’s team to score his greatest ever goal.
Micky van de Ven is likely to sign a new Tottenham contract
There has been a lot of talk about van de Ven’s future and whether the best teams in Europe might come sniffing.
However, TBR Football report that the 24-year-old is loving life in North London and has a good relationship with Cristian Romero and Thomas Frank.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Tottenham are increasingly confident in getting van de Ven to sign a new deal and this is because his centre-back partner recently committed his future to the club.
TBR Chief Correspondent Graeme Bailey said: “A new deal for Van de Ven is emerging as one of Tottenham’s priorities under Vinai Venkatesham’s reign, and talks have already been taking place since the summer.
“But this is both ways, Van de Ven is very happy at Tottenham, he has settled in brilliantly since he arrived, having now emerged as one of the Premier League’s best, and his partnership with Cristian Romero is on par with anything in the game.
“Romero plays a part here; his decision not to seek a move in the summer has an impact on Van de Ven, who is ready to follow in his steps and sign, and he will be rewarded with similar terms to those of his Argentine colleague.
“Yes, both Spurs and Van de Ven are aware of interest; there is no denying that. Spurs believe he is one of the best anywhere in Europe, and they are recognising this with this prospective new deal. Talks are set to accelerate this month.”
Spurs cannot afford to lose van de Ven
Every Tottenham fan knew van de Ven was a quality player, but he has still managed to spring a few surprises this season.
The defender’s eye for goal is quite bizarre, yet truly brilliant and he has shown he knows how to lead too, having worn the captain’s armband on five occasions.
There is no amount of money which could compensate for the loss of van de Ven and Spurs must do everything in their power to see him put pen to paper and sign a new contract.
