Tottenham Hotspur should demand a fee in the region of £100million for Cristian Romero this summer as he prepares to leave.
That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
It is reportedly decided that the 28-year-old will leave the club this summer amid the arrivals of both Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
Romero has three years remaining on his contract at Tottenham, but it has been clear for some time that he intends to spend the final years of his prime elsewhere.
The defender is set to feature in Argentina's World Cup semi-final against England on Wednesday and the final, if the holders progress.
His future will be addressed upon his return, with Barcelona and Inter Milan among the interested parties.
Bryan King demands mammoth Cristian Romero price tag
At times, Romero seems to represent two different players. For Argentina, he is among the world's best and massive contributor to the nation's recent success.
However, for Tottenham, he can often lose focus and make mistakes, or steam into completely unnecessary challenges and get sent off.
The defender was injured in Roberto De Zerbi's first game in charge, but the signings of Van Hecke and Senesi indicate that the Italian is happy to part ways with him.
"He might have been good, but I think it's time for him to move on, to be honest," King told Football Insider. "He's been captain of the football club, how many times has he been sent off?
"I don't think he should have ever been my captain, to be honest. He's a good player, he's a World Cup winner. Don't take that away, he's a good player, but he's also a loose cannon.
"To be sent off that amount of times and you're captain of the football club, it seems a bit strange to me. If the money was right, I think it would be bye-bye.
"Look at the money that's gone around for me, an ordinary midfield player [Elliot Anderson]. It's got to be £100m, hasn't it? I'm afraid that that's going to cost a lot of money to get him out. A lot of money."
Cristian Romero exit 'certain' at Tottenham - 'there's no need for an enormous squad' Romero thriving at World Cup
Romero faced a race to get fit for the World Cup after spending the final months of Tottenham's season out injured.
He was ultimately fit enough to start the opener, but suffered a knock against Austria and spent the final group game on the bench.
Romero has returned and been key in the knockout stages, however, playing the full 120 minutes against Cape Verde, scoring in a thrilling comeback against Egypt and playing 105 minutes against Switzerland.
