Daniel Levy has been slammed for his latest comments on Tottenham Hotspur.

The businessman left his post as the North London club’s executive chairman in September after over 20 years in the role.

He recently revealed that he did not foresee Spurs’ current situation after reflecting on being awarded a CBE.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he admitted that he did not see it coming, saying: “never, no, not in a million years”

Tottenham fans still hold a lot of resentment towards Levy, and that was evident after his comments went public.

‘Tottenham wouldn’t be in this mess with Levy’

John Wenham believes that Levy is copping unfair criticism and would have sacked Frank sooner than Tottenham actually did.

“I know he was forced out as the chairman, but his shares and his control of lots of businesses around the club will all be impacted by Tottenham’s relegation.

“He says that he is a fan, so we can only take his word for that, then he’s going to be frustrated with the season and want the club to survive.

“He helped bring in Thomas Frank, he had the greatest English striker of all time come through the academy and didn’t build on that enough.

“We got close, we had an 86-point league season, which will be more than what Arsenal or Man City can get this year, we had a Champions League final, we had multiple FA Cup semi-finals, multiple Carabao Cup finals, but we didn’t quite get over the line.

“There were times when we could have built on it and pushed out a bit more, and he chose not to do it. People say Poch wasn’t backed, he was backed in 2019 when we spent over £140 million, but it was spent on absolute rubbish like Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke.

“Those three in particular massively underperformed, and that seemingly scared Tottenham to put their hand in their pocket again.

“People are always frustrated with Levy anyway, so the fact that he’s re-emerged from where we are, in the position we are, he’s an easy target, But he hasn’t been there this year, and I can tell you for free that he would have sacked Thomas Frank significantly earlier, had he been in charge.”

Why Wenham’s Levy defence is right

Wenham is probably correct in his assessment that Levy would have dismissed Frank earlier.

He would have felt even more pressure on his own back and likely pulled the trigger a lot sooner, which would mean that the Lilywhites would likely not be in the mess that they are currently in.

The grass is not always greener, and Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange has not proven that they can run the club effectively.
