It remains unclear whether Sean Dyche would be open to replacing Igor Tudor as Tottenham Hotspur manager until the end of the season, journalist David Ornstein has revealed.
The 54-year-old manager was linked with the north London hotseat this week, but Ornstein suggests Dyche’s coaching style may not necessarily be what Spurs are looking for at the moment.
Tottenham have not ruled out sacking Tudor before the end of the campaign amid their precarious Premier League position, with the club sitting 17th in the table, one point above the relegation zone.
Dyche is available following his sacking at Nottingham Forest in February, where he oversaw just 25 games, winning 10.
Ornstein, speaking on the Back Pages podcast, revealed that it remains unclear whether Dyche would take the Tottenham job at this point in the season:
“Well, it’s an emergency at Spurs, and desperate times call for desperate measures. I’m not saying that in a derogatory way towards Sean Dyche as well, he’s an excellent coach and has proved as a manager with his record in the Premier League and in football full stop.
“But, you wouldn’t immediately have him down as a candidate to manage Tottenham Hotspur in terms of style and in terms of the clubs that he’s managed so far, and where Tottenham traditionally see themselves. But he’s available. Whether he would take it or not, it’s not clear.”
Tudor’s future at Spurs has been a hot topic in recent weeks after the Croatian lost five of his seven games in all competitions, picking up just a single point in the league.
Last weekend, Tottenham fell to a 3-0 home defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, who turned to former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira following Dyche’s sacking in February.
Dyche won six of his 18 Premier League games in charge of the Tricky Trees and was fired after a winless run of three.
Roberto De Zerbi Appointment Ruled Out
Tottenham have also been linked with appointing Roberto De Zerbi in recent days, but it appears the Italian manager is likely to wait until the summer before choosing his next club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 46-year-old looks set to keep his options open until after the season and may consider joining Spurs if they avoid Premier League relegation.
De Zerbi left his role as Marseille manager in January following the French club’s exit from the Champions League and a heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Prior to his appointment at Stade Velodrome, the Italian tactician spent two years at Brighton and took the Seagulls to sixth in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season –the club’s highest top-flight finish to date.
