Dejan Kulusevski absence has been felt at Tottenham
It’s unclear when Kulusevski will be able to train again after undergoing knee surgery towards the end of last season, which saw him miss the Europa League final win over Manchester United.
The Sweden international was influential for Spurs in the previous campaign, scoring seven goals, providing four assists, creating nine big chances and completing 81 per cent of his passes in the Premier League, as per Sofacore.
In the 2024-25 season, Tottenham scored 1.7 goals per game in the English top flight and that has come down to 1.3 this time around.
In terms of creativity, the North London outfit created 2.6 big chances per game in the previous campaign compared to 1.7 this term, which is clearly a drastic decrease.
While the Lilywhites have had several important attacking players missing in recent months, Kulusevski’s loss is undoubtedly having a major effect on them.
The former Juventus star had been consistently pulling the strings for Spurs before getting injured, creating 14 big chances in the league in the 2023-24 season, and fans in North London will surely be devastated to watch him struggle with his fitness right now.
Spurs have new undroppable for Premier League survival
Igor Tudor will probably leave Tottenham before the March international breaks end and it would make sense for both parties to part ways after the Croatian manager’s recent family bereavement.
Xavi Simons was surprisingly dropped to the bench against Nottingham Forest despite his impressive performance in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 with Atletico Madrid.
The Netherlands international played the last 23 minutes of the 3-0 loss to the Tricky Trees at home, but there wasn’t much time for him to make a significant impact.
Whoever is in the Spurs dugout to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 12 April should start Simons in the midfield to have the best chance of getting three points.
