Destiny Udogie could be preparing for another challenge after three years at Tottenham.

The Italian has been a frequent feature at left-back for Spurs since he arrived from Udinese.

However, injuries have kept Udogie from showing his class on the pitch consistently. Last season, he watched from the sidelines as Djed Spence ran riot in his spot.

Despite this, top clubs are still interested in the fullback, although those clubs could be made to wait.

Udogie is not expected to leave Tottenham

As reported in the print edition of the Gazzetta (22 July, pg13), Tottenham will not listen to any offers under £43million for Udogie. However, it is understood that the fullback would entertain an approach from a bigger club.

AC Milan held preliminary talks with the Lilywhites about the Italy international but opted to sign Pervis Estupinan from Brighton after Spurs revealed their asking price.

Even if a return to Italy is not on the cards for the left-back, his performances are certain to pique the interest of several clubs.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that neither Milian nor another club will sign Udogie this summer.

“No chance he leaves, AC Milan also can’t afford him,” Wenham said.

“They’ve signed Estupinan from Brighton, so we can rule that one out.”

Udogie has his work cut out for him under Thomas Frank

Tottenham’s pre-season draw against Wycombe on Saturday (26 July) provided good insight into what Udogie’s role under Thomas Frank could look like.

While the fullback was not present in the lineup, the partnership between Wilson Odobert and Pedro Porro was telling. The two seemed to have developed a special synergy when overlapping.

Porro, in particular, had the freedom to attack when he deemed fit, with Odobert often dropping to help out in defence. The fullback’s role meant that the other defenders remained deep for cover.

As a result, Udogie may assume a similar role to Alejandro Grimaldo under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. For Jeremie Firmpong to have free rein on the right wing, Grimaldo often hung back on the left flank.
