Tottenham Hotspur are doing their best to make some blockbuster transfer happen before the clock strikes midnight on Aug. 31, and while they are confident that they can secure the signing of local star Eberechi Eze from FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, the road to Savinho from Premier League title contenders Manchester City hasn't been as easy.
Currently, there is more pessimism surrounding a Savinho transfer than before, as Manchester City have been rejecting increasingly higher bids. And if Rodrygo Goes continues to show loyalty to Real Madrid despite riding the pine under Xabi Alonso at manager, Manchester City will lose their chief replacement for Savinho and thus their reasons for openness to selling the former La Liga star to the North London giants.
Savinho's track is not cold, but Tottenham fans are less hopeful than they were a week ago when links to the Brazilian winger first emerged. The 21-year-old enjoyed a strong first season at the Etihad, and his eight assists and explosvie one-on-one dribbling would be a welcome site to a team that really only boasts Mohammed Kudus as a dynamic wide threat these days.
Tottenham are not calling it quits
But for anyone writing off the possibility of Savinho joining Tottenham because of the lack of positive movement with Manchester City in transfer negotiations, maybe this report will change their mind. On his YouTube channel, top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported to the masses that despite Manchester City blocking off a Savinho move to this point, Spurs are not giving up on him and are still going to push to sign the Premier League star.
Perhaps that could change, but Tottenham have nothing to lose by pushing for Savinho up until the transfer window's end, especially since he's shown a willingness to join them. Savinho and his agent have been working for a solution, and while some members of the Manchester City board room don't want to sell and Pep Guardiola himself isn't keen on selling a player they just bought last summer without a replacement, a lot is subject to change on the transfer market.
Tottenham would surely like to be the ones to benefit from the changing of opinions and events on the mercato, and while lining up other young wingers as alternatives would be wise, there's nothing to lose in having people in the building staying glued to the Savinho track. There's no reason to write this deal off yet, even if Eze seems like a far easier top signing to make.
