Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to appoint Niko Kovac to replace Ange Postecoglou, and Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, has provided an update on the situation.

Postecoglou's position is under scrutiny despite guiding the team to the Europa League semi-finals, where they face Bodo/Glimt in the first leg on Thursday. Despite a promising start, Spurs have suffered 19 Premier League defeats, equaling their worst-ever record from the 1993–94 season, and currently sit 16th in the table.

Kovac, who was appointed as Borussia Dortmund's head coach in January 2025, signed an 18-month contract with the Bundesliga club, being labelled as one of the 'best coaches in Europe' in the process. He's now being linked with a move to north London, and Romano has responded to those claims.

Nothing advanced

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has suggested that he's not aware of anything advanced between Tottenham and Kovac at this stage. The respected reporter adds that Spurs won't make a decision on sacking Postecoglou until after the Europa League semi-final...

"I’m not aware of anything advanced on this one yet, Spurs will not make any decision now with the Europa League semi finals due to start soon."

It's been a catastrophic campaign for Spurs as they sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table. The north London club do have chance of salvaging something from their season by winning the Europa League, which would see them qualify for the Champions League.

Whether that will save Postecoglou's job remains to be seen, but GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that there's no guarantee he stays in charge, even if he brings home a trophy. Tottenham's form domestically has been simply unacceptable and will would be no surprise to see Postecoglou relieved of his duties if they are eliminated from the Europa League in the coming weeks.
