Alasdair Gold says he 'feels sorry' for Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski after a new worrying injury update emerged on the Sweden international today.

The 25-year-old hasn't played for Spurs since picking up a knee injury against Crystal Palace last May, which saw him require Patella injury.

It means he has been absent for the entire 2025-26 campaign, which has obviously been a disaster on the pitch for Tottenham.

Caretaker manager Igor Tudor would love to have Kulusevski fit and available for him, with Spurs lying just one place and one point above the relegation zone following Sunday's 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It doesn't appear as though that will happen, following a new negative update from Kulusevski's home country.

Kulusevski Limping as he Watches Sweden Training

Despite already spending 10 months on the sidelines, it doesn't appear the attacking midfielder is any closer to making a return to first-team action after Tudor's recent comments about the complicated injury, meaning he may not return until next season.

Indeed, SportBladet in Sweden claim that the 25-year-old watched Sweden train in Valencia ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff against Ukraine on Thursday, as they look to secure their spot at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

If Sweden are victorious, they will face the winner of Poland vs Albania in Stockholm next Tuesday.

While Tottenham fans may have been hoping they were close to seeing Kulusevki in a white shirt again, SportBladet claim that he was limping, which isn't a great sign.

Football London correspondent Gold has reacted to the latest on Kulusevski, saying he 'feels sorry' for the Spurs star after a tough year personally.

Kulusevski One of 9 Players Tottenham Want to Keep

Despite the uncertainty over which division they will find themselves in next season, Tottenham have reportedly already decided nine players they want in their squad next season, including Kulusevski.

Spurs will hope that the Swede is back and fit for next season, ideally in the Premier League, with his national compatriot Lucas Bergvall another the north Londoners want to keep hold of.

Along with the Swedish duo, they also want Micky van de Ven, Archie Gray, Conor Gallagher, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Dominic Soanke and James Maddison to stay.

Tottenham will surely have to preserve their Premier League status to ensure the majority of those, with doubts over Van de Ven even if they do stay up given his desire to play regular Champions League football.

De Zerbi Would Love Kulusevski

Roberto De Zerbi is one of Tottenham's top targets to become the club's next permanent manager, GMS understands, so we asked ChatGPT how Kulusevski would fit into the Italian's system, and this is what it said:

'Dejan Kulusevski would likely suit a Roberto De Zerbi system quite well.

'De Zerbi demands press-resistant ball carriers and intelligent off-ball movement in tight build-up phases. Kulusevski’s strengths—ball-carrying, creativity, and ability to operate between lines—fit this, especially as a right-sided playmaker or narrow 10.

'He could thrive receiving under pressure and linking play, but his lack of elite pace may limit threat in behind. Overall, he’d be a facilitator rather than a primary runner—valuable in possession-heavy structures, less so in transition-heavy moments.'
