Tottenham Hotspur have just agreed a deal with Brazilian club Bahia to sell Alejo Veliz on a permanent deal, according to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano.

It was a relatively quiet January transfer window at Spurs, with Brennan Johnson leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Conor Gallagher and Souza coming in the other way.

While the UK transfer window closed on Monday evening, the Brazilian window remains open until March 3, which allows clubs to agree transfers like this one for Veliz from European teams.

The young Argentine is currently on loan at Rosario Central, but will be changing clubs permanently in 2026 after the latest agreement.

Veliz Due to Have Medical in June

According to Romano, posting on X on Thursday afternoon, Tottenham have reached an agreement with Bahia worth £7.8m, plus add-ons, for Veliz after a verbal agreement was reached with director Cadu Santoro on Thursday.

The move to Brazil will happen in the summer once his season-long loan spell with Argentine club Rosario Central comes to an end, as the attacker made it clear he wanted to stay at the club where he began his career until the summer.

Interestingly, Bahia are part of the City Group having become an addition to its family of clubs in 2023, alongside Manchester City, Girona and New York City among others.

Spurs have actually made a loss on Veliz with the agreed deal with Bahia, having signed him for £13m back in 2023 from Rosario, when he joined on the same day as Micky van de Ven.

Veliz Transfer Didn't Work Out for Tottenham

Veliz arrived in north London just weeks before Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich, bringing with him an impressive record for Rosario Central.

But if there were any dreams he could be Kane's long-term replacement at Spurs, those were quickly eradicated as he struggled to make an impact across the other side of the world.

The Argentine leaves the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having only made eight appearances in total, with his only goal coming in a win against Brighton and Hove Albion in December 2023.

The majority of Veliz's time at the club was actually spent on loan, as he failed to get minutes under former boss Ange Postecoglou.

Prior to rejoining Rosario on loan, the striker had loan spells with Sevilla and Espanyol in La Liga, scoring six goals in 35 outings combined for both clubs.
