Heung-min Son has provided an update on his condition ahead of Tottenham’s all-important Europa League final, offering fans a timely fitness update.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their 21st defeat of the season at the hands of Aston Villa on Friday.

It was a 2-0 defeat, one that had little impact on Tottenham’s league position, as the Lilywhites remain firmly in 17th place on the Premier League table.

Manager Ange Postecoglou made several changes to his starting eleven ahead of the Villa clash, giving fringe players a rare opportunity to impress, with the Australian determined to keep his key men fresh for Wednesday’s final.

Heung-min Son, who only just recovered from a foot injury, was among the few Tottenham players to feature against the West Midlands outfit.

The Tottenham captain had not started a match for the Lilywhites since April, and with the Europa League final just days away, Postecoglou opted to ease him back into action with some valuable game time.

Son featured for over 70 minutes before being taken off. The Korean winger looked sharp and lively, even though his final ball lacked precision at times.

The Tottenham skipper has now addressed his fitness and what it felt like to return to the starting eleven for the first time in a month. Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, he said: “I am feeling good, a little bit tired obviously first game back to play, I feel good and ready to go.”

On how important those minutes were, he added: “It was very important against Crystal Palace as well, I came on, played 25 minutes, 30 minutes, and today 70 minutes, I think it was very good. To get game time on my legs, I think the most important thing is that everybody gets fit for Wednesday and I would be ready for Wednesday.”

Spurs suffer injury concerns as Son steps up return

While Ange Postecoglou would have hoped to come through the Villa clash unscathed, Tottenham were dealt a couple of setbacks, with Mikey Moore and Pape Matar Sarr both appearing to pick up injuries.

Sarr was withdrawn just five minutes into the second half and went straight down the tunnel for treatment.

Postecoglou has since offered an update on Pape Sarr’s condition, stating: “Pape felt something in his back, we do not think it is anything significant, having spoken to him, but we will see.”

Tottenham’s midfield options remain severely depleted, with Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski all expected to miss the final.

In that context, Son getting minutes in his legs is one of the few positives, as the north London side prepare for what is undoubtedly the biggest fixture of their campaign.
