Tottenham captain Heung-min Son is the subject of intense interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer, but a new report has now revealed that this is not the first time that clubs from the Middle East have tried to tempt the South Korean with a lucrative offer.

Over the last few weeks, Son has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after entering the final year of his Tottenham contract.

What will worry Tottenham fans is that Son has refused to rule out a potential exit from Spurs, with the 32-year-old leaving the door open to ending his 10-year spell at the club after the Europa League success.

However, several outlets have claimed that Spurs will not decide on Son’s future until August, with the club contractually obliged to ensure his participation in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

Heung-min Son turned down a huge Saudi offer back in 2023

The Times have now confirmed that Al-Hilal, who are coached by Simone Inzaghi, we well as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr have expressed interest in the Tottenham captain this summer.

However, the outlet reveals that this is not the first time that Saudi Pro League clubs have tried to sign the forward.

Back in 2023, Al-Ittihad allegedly made a £55m offer to Tottenham Hotspur and were ready to hand Son a four-year deal worth an astonishing £25m, but the player turned it down.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the outlet says that the 32-year-old is now more open to leaving the club this summer. This ties in with what we have heard from Alasdair Gold, who has repeatedly asserted that Son is now closer to leaving Tottenham than he ever has been in the past.

Saudi clubs will have to pay a premium for Son

The Times also point out that Saudi clubs view Son as someone who can help them sell their league to a new market in the Far East, but that is not the only reason they want the Tottenham man.

The rules in the Asian Champions League state that one of the six foreign players in the starting lineup for each club needs to be from another Asian country.

As a result, Son is expected to cost a premium, with the forward being a huge asset for Saudi sides both on and off the pitch.
