Rodrigo Bentancur faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s defeat away at Bournemouth.

Joao Palhinha scored an overhead kick on Wednesday, but Antoine Semenyo’s last-minute winner ensured the visitors went home empty-handed in a 3-2 loss.

To make matters worse for Thomas Frank, Bentancur was taken off in the 86th minute at Vitality Stadium, sparking concerns about his fitness.

It has now been revealed that the Uruguayan international will be forced to undergo surgery and subsequently miss a big chunk of the season.

Rodrigo Bentancur out for at least three months

Bentancur has not been at his best this term, but he has still been an ever-present for Frank in the centre of the Tottenham midfield.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 28-year-old has started 17 Premier League games in the 2025-26 campaign, and has appeared in every top-flight match since the middle of September.

However, that run is now coming to an end, as according to TyC Sports, Bentancur suffered a hamstring tear during the defeat to Bournemouth and will now undergo surgery.

The Uruguayan international is expected to be out of action for at least three months, meaning he won’t be available until the middle of April at the very earliest.

Given Tottenham’s current rehabilitation record, Bentancur could be missing for even longer.

Thomas Frank has clear problem at Tottenham

Frank is under huge sack pressure at Tottenham, with the North London side sitting 14th in the Premier League.

However, the Dane is not entirely at fault for Spurs’ horrific season so far, as he has been consistently battling with player availability.

Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Dominic Solanke have all been confined to the treatment room, with Mohammed Kudus now also out until April.

Add Bentancur to that list, and Frank is arguably missing almost half of his best starting line-up, although Solanke did make his first appearance since August against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

The former Brentford manager clearly has his faults, but the severe injury crisis has done little to help.
