Tottenham are not the only ones to have picked up a medal over the last week, with an on-loan Spurs youngster admitting that he was inspired by the senior side after playing a crucial role in his side’s cup win on Sunday.
The eyes of everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur were glued to the Europa League final last Wednesday as the Lilywhites created history.
That includes academy centre-back, Alfie Dorrington, who, along with his Aberdeen teammates, had a cup final of their own just three days after the one in Bilbao.
Just like Tottenham, Aberdeen created history by shocking Celtic in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park, with the Spurs youngster confessing that he took inspiration from the events at San Mames.
Alfie Dorrington watched Tottenham’s Europa League final
Dorrington got 80 minutes under his belt as the Scottish Cup final finished in a 1-1 draw and he had to watch nervously from the bench as his side managed to keep Celtic out during extra time and proceeded to win the game in a penalty shootout.
The 20-year-old admitted that while he wished he was able to experience the night in Bilbao, the events at Hampden Park more than made up for it.
Donley said (via Football.London): “I watched the Tottenham [final] the other day. A few of my mates were there, they said it was crazy.

“It would have been nice to experience that, but the Aberdeen one was just crazy too. It more than made up for it. There were so many people there – it was packed.”
The Tottenham academy graduate admitted that he received a lot of good luck messages from his Spurs teammates ahead of the Scottish Cup final, even though they were busy basking in the glory of their Europa League success.
When asked if he received any messages from the staff and his teammates at Spurs, Dorrington said: “Yeah, they’ve kept in touch the whole time, especially on Friday night and before the game, they were just messaging me good luck.
“I think some of them watched the game. It’s just nice to know that I have the support from Tottenham and nice to know that I have the support from Aberdeen as well.”
Dorrington is open to an Aberdeen return
The season has ended on a high for a centre-back, who will arrive back at Hotspur Way with plenty of confidence, having thrived in his first taste of senior football.
Dorrington is highly rated by the coaches at Spurs and is seen as a first-team prospect, but the centre-back is open to returning to Aberdeen to gain more experience next season.
When asked about potentially returning to the Scottish club on loan next season, the Spurs man said: “Obviously, I love the city, I love the club, the staff, the players. I love Tottenham as well. They’re kind of in charge of what I do. I’d be grateful if Aberdeen came back in for me but it’s all in Tottenham’s hands.”
