After a 6-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road, Spain and London City defender Jana Fernandez said she couldn't be happier.
"I think we made a statement. We just have to keep pushing. This [season] is so long, we can't say anything now, but of course we are going to push to be first," she said. "We want the WSL title."
Lionesses end Spurs' unbeaten run
London City ended Tottenham's unbeaten WSL run, and the three points move them into the top three.
Fernandez said part of the game plan was to make Spurs uncomfortable on the ball and take their chances, which is exactly what they did.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game. Tottenham have been amazing through the season, so we had a lot of respect coming into the game," she said. "That's why I think we put in the performance we did."
Arques and Putellas pull the strings
She had particular praise for teammates Daniela Arques and Alexia Putellas, who pulled the strings together in midfield.
She said: "When you have two players that understand each other so good, they speak the same language which also helps. They understand the spaces and they understand football in a way that nobody else does."
It was the connections between the whole team that allowed them to have such a dominant performance.
"Everybody was having the best games of their lives. You can tell by the result. This is what we want to become, this is what we're trying to build, so we go from here."
Fernandez said that the win today will help push London City to reach the top.
"We have to go for more. We don't have to stop now. Some time away from the club will help to come back even stronger."
