Daniel Levy has always had a reputation as a ruthless businessman, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be about to experience the full force of that.

It had been reported earlier in June that Levy was planning to sue Ratcliffe’s company, Ineos, for non-payment of funds due in a sponsorship deal, which was cancelled early.

Now, the amount of compensation being sought by Tottenham has been revealed in new documents.

Court Documents reveal that Levy is suing INEOS for £11million

Ineos had a sponsorship agreement with Tottenham to promote their Grenadier car as the club’s “official 4×4 vehicle partner”.

That also involved naming the seats in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dugout and big-screen adverts during matches, among other things.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the company is being accused of failing to make two payments related to that sponsorship deal last year.

These missed payments amount to around £5.5m, according to new court documents. Supposedly, Tottenham were due just under £500,000 in August 2024 and a further £5.1m in December.

The Times reports that Levy is now seeking just over £11million from Ineos. The unpaid £5.5m, another £5.3m for the 2026-27 season and £300,000 in interest.

Ineos claims that it had the right to terminate its partnership with Tottenham before these payments were due.

Knowing the stubbornness of Levy and Ratcliffe when it comes to business dealings, this case could drag on and on.

Ineos has a minority stake in Manchester United, and its CEO, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is in charge of footballing affairs at the Old Trafford club.

Tottenham v Manchester United rivalry is likely to spiral

Tottenham have always enjoyed a heated rivalry with Manchester United, going back to the days when Sir Alex Ferguson seemed intent on poaching Spurs’ best players.

This rivalry was rekindled when both clubs found themselves in a ‘do or die’ Europa League final in May.

Manchester United were beaten by Spurs that day, missing out on the Champions League, and are now suffering the financial consequences of that.

More financial consequences could be on the way if Levy is successful in this lawsuit against Ineos.

Needless to say, there won’t be a friendly bottle of wine shared between the two businessmen when Tottenham meet the Red Devils next season.

Both teams are attempting to rebuild their squads after poor performances in the Premier League last season, but Tottenham are likely to have more funds available as a result of their Champions League qualification.
