Liverpool’s frustrating defeat to Bournemouth underlined the continuous problems presenting within Arne Slot’s side, and opened the transfer rumour mill up for further reports and speculation.
The Reds are still yet to win a Premier League match in 2026 and hopes of defending their title are now dead in the water. As they work towards a top four finish, one eye is on the summer transfer window and what the club needs to improve on this turbulent season.
Liverpool are already planning signings for places in serious need of back-up, with the defence in particular an area of concern. They are also the market for a new midfield powerhouse and interest in Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is still simmering behind the scenes.
Liverpool ‘willing’ to bid £87 million for Aurelien Tchouameni
Tchouameni is a highly sought-after transfer target and Liverpool remain keen on bringing him to Anfield. In fact, a new report claims the Reds are willing to table a significant offer to get the ball rolling with potential negotiations.
According to Fichajes, both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are showing ‘clear determination’ to sign Tchouameni. The Reds have made it a priority to sign a ‘dominant midfielder’ this summer and the France international is viewed as an ‘ideal candidate’ to lead the engine room ‘for years to come’.
Fichajes claims that Liverpool and Tottenham are ‘both willing’ to put an offer of €100 million (£87m) on the table for Tchouameni.
Real Madrid ‘in no hurry’ to sell Aurelien Tchouameni
While both Premier League clubs are eager to sign Tchouameni, Real Madrid are in ‘no hurry’ to offload one of their star players. Los Blancos view the 25-year-old as a key part of the team as both a present player and a long-term future asset.
Liverpool and Spurs have both failed to ‘chance the initial perception’ of Real Madrid. However, it doesn’t seem as though either club is willing to give up easily on trying to sign the midfielder.
Tchouameni is under contract with Madrid until 2028 and as he is a firm favourite at the club, it’s going to take a lot to sway the Spanish powerhouses into a position to sell up.
No transfer potential is ever a closed book, though. Real Madrid are said to be ‘calmly analysing the situation’ and the club ‘understands the context and scope of the proposals received’.
