Manchester United could be without two players when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend. Michael Carrick has won his first three matches as United head coach and will hope to extend that run to four victories when they welcome Spurs to Old Trafford.

United will continue to step up their training regime over the next two days before the match on Saturday lunchtime and have started to prepare for the match without a key duo. Matthijs De Ligt and Mason Mount both missed the weekend win over Fulham and neither player was involved in their latest team training session in midweek.

Carrick allowed club media to broadcast their session on Wednesday morning, with five academy stars involved from the start. However, there was no sign of either De Ligt or Mount and it appears unlikely the duo will be fit enough to be involved this weekend.

United duo miss Tottenham training

Matthijs De Ligt and Mason Mount were not spotted during the open section of Manchester United's latest training session at Carrington.

De Ligt has missed the last 12 matches after he sustained a back injury during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the end of November, and could extend that absence this weekend. Mount missed the weekend win over Fulham with a 'knock' and although he is not expected to be out for long, he has yet to return to training.

United are already without Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu after he suffered a hamstring injury in the recent 3-2 win at Arsenal. He is expected to be sidelined for roughly two months, though club sources are adamant there is no specific timeframe on his return, and it is hoped he might be back sooner.

Michael Carrick will provide an official team news update when he holds his latest United press conference at Carrington on Thursday afternoon. JJ Gabriel, Jack Moorhouse, Yuel Helafu and both Jack and Tyler Fletcher were involved in the latest training session in midweek.
