Tottenham vs Everton: The Key Stats
Despite their ongoing woes, the Opta supercomputer gives Tottenham a 48.2% chance of posting their first Premier League win of the season; Everton have a 27.1% chance of success.
The Toffees have only won one of their last 17 top-flight away games against Spurs (W12 D4), losing five on the spin since September 2020.
The hosts’ lone victory – and clean sheet – from their last 12 Premier League home games came against Everton on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign (D4 L7).
Tottenham’s quest to get their first win – and first goal – of the Premier League season will continue on Saturday, when Roberto De Zerbi’s side welcome Everton to north London.
Given an outlay of more than £300 million on new recruits over the summer, De Zerbi was expected to end the club’s seemingly endless struggles sooner rather than later, but he is already asking for more time.
Though summer signings Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, Omar Marmoush and Sávio all started at the City Ground, it was a familiar story for fans who had hoped for a change of narrative this season.
It may be early days, but Spurs are back at the bottom end of the table and have picked up just one point from their first three games – albeit, they did put five past Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup.
One of three teams yet to score in the Premier League this term – along with Aston Villa and Coventry City – Tottenham have never failed to find the net in their first four league fixtures of a single campaign, so they’ll be desperate to get up and running.
Ominously, the last time Spurs went four top-flight games without a goal was 20 years ago, and that run included a 2-0 home loss to Everton.
Back in August 2006, David Moyes led the Toffees to victory at White Hart Lane; two decades on, he’ll aim to repeat that feat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite a calamitous deadline day, Moyes’ thin squad have started the campaign quite well, going unbeaten in the Premier League and reaching round three of the EFL Cup.
Timed at 95:11, Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored Everton’s latest league goal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as they thwarted Manchester United last time out.
A bargain buy from Lyon, Maitland-Niles popped up with a spectacular finish on his debut, having scored in just one of 109 prior Premier League appearances; he also became the first Toffee to score on his top-flight bow since Richarlison in August 2018 – whatever happened to him?
However, before heading south, Everton have won none of their last six away games in England’s top tier, and they lost both meetings with Tottenham last term by an aggregate score of 4-0.
Given some obvious gaps in the squad, a similar XI should line up again after that spirited performance against Man Utd. So, Jack Grealish could remain on the bench.
More than most, Moyes must keep an eye on his players’ fitness, but only Christian Nørgaard has been ruled out of Saturday’s game by injury.
In stark contrast, De Zerbi is still trying to fit together the pieces of an expensively acquired puzzle, already making eight changes to his starting XI in the league. That’s not only the most throughout the division but is also Tottenham’s joint-most at this stage of any Premier League campaign (also eight in 2011-12).
Slightly trimming De Zerbi’s options, the aforementioned Richarlison has been frozen out following his cameo role in Everton’s transfer chaos, while James Maddison remains a doubt.
Furthermore, there are reports that recent arrival Mykhailo Mudryk will be sidelined until after the three-week international break after injuring an ankle in training.
While unfortunate, that should smooth the path to selection for Mudryk’s fellow winger Mathys Tel, who has completed the most dribbles in the Premier League this season (10).
Tottenham vs Everton Head-to-Head
Much more was at stake when the sides last met, as Tottenham’s nervy 1-0 home win secured Premier League survival on the final day of last season.
João Palhinha’s 43rd-minute strike ultimately decided the contest, as Spurs ensured they would stay up and Everton finished 13th for the second straight season.
Tottenham also won the reverse fixture 3-0, but they’ve never beaten the Toffees three times in succession without conceding.
Looking further back, Everton have won just one of the last 11 meetings – a 3-2 victory at Goodison Park in January 2025.

Tottenham may have endured a slow start to the season, but they conquered Everton in 48.2% of 10,000 pre-match simulations by the Opta supercomputer.
Meanwhile, the visitors only prevailed in 27.1% of those simulations, with a draw making up the other 24.7%.
