Tottenham Hotspur legend Michael Dawson has been discussing a big decision which he made at the club when he was playing under Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Nottingham Forest player became a real hero in North London, having spent 11 seasons playing at White Hart Lane.
The defender formed a formidable partnership alongside another Spurs legend in Ledley King, as the pair made 82 appearances together.
Dawson has now been speaking about his time at Tottenham Hotspur and admitted regretting a decision which he made under Mauricio Pochettino.
Michael Dawson regrets leaving Tottenham for Hull City
Spurs legend Michael Dawson has admitted that he regretted his decision to leave Tottenham for Hull City back in 2014.
Dawson, whom Carlos Tevez said was one of his ‘toughest opponents’, left Spurs just after the arrival of Pochettino.
Federico Fazio was signed from Sevilla in a deal worth around £8 million, meanwhile, the former England international was sold for just £3.5 million.
Asked how he felt about leaving Spurs, Dawson told Hollie’s Hotspurs: “Emotional, a challenge and a chore. Was it the right time? It was the wrong decision in hindsight, but we haven’t got a crystal ball.
When asked about whether he would have liked to have played under Pochettino: “100 per cent. I did pre-season with Poch and he was a great guy, he didn’t say he wanted me to leave.
“I could have stayed, but was I going to play? A lot of things came into the decision to leave.
“I remember driving home from Hull, the day after I signed and remember thinking, ‘I wish I could phone Daniel (Levy) to tell him to take me back’.
“Nothing against Hull, it just wasn’t the right time for me to leave Spurs, but as I said, there were too many things in my mind that swayed me to make that decision.”
Dawson proved to be a superb servant during his time in North London, making 324 appearances and helping win the League Cup in 2008.
Harry Redknapp was a huge fan of Michael Dawson
Harry Redknapp was also a huge fan of Dawson, labelling him as ‘absolutely fantastic’ and one of the best defenders in the country.
Redknapp, who recently defended Daniel Levy, gave Dawson 108 appearances under him, which included six games in the Champions League.
Redknapp told the media via The Spurs Web: “For me, he’s been absolutely fantastic. There aren’t too many centre-halves in the country playing better than Michael at the moment.
“He’s a leader, good in the air, a great defender and can pass it. I certainly think if any player was going to force their way in, he is a possibility.”
