Micky van de Ven spoke of his honour at wearing the captain’s armband at Bodo/Glimt.

The Netherlands international skippered us for the first time – on what was his 60th appearance in our colours – and led by example, heading home a crucial goal just moments after the Norwegian side had taken a 2-0 lead to keep us in the game and kick-start another late comeback.

Jostein Gundersen’s own goal two minutes from time salvaged a 2-2 draw and ensured we left the Arctic Circle unbeaten in the Champions League after two games.

“It was a really proud moment (to captain the team),” he told SPURSPLAY. “I was happy to help the team as well.

“I was hoping for a better performance from our team, but I’m happy with the point and it’s a really proud moment for myself and my family. I just did what I always try to do.”

Micky’s header came at a key moment – just two minutes after Bodo/Glimt had doubled their lead, thus quickly reducing our arrears – and also represented his first Champions League goal.

“It’s obviously a nice feeling,” the defender said. “Of course, I’m also happy we got the point, otherwise, if you lose 2-1 and you score, it doesn’t really matter. So, yes, I’m happy to score my first Champions League goal for sure.

“The goal was also important because it put extra pressure on them and they knew if we scored for 2-1 straight away, they need to drop and we are coming. We played really well after this and got the point.

“Especially when you’re 2-0 down, you can be happy when you see the game and we were struggling, you can be happy with a point.”
