Former Blackpool midfielder Josh Onomah has made a move to Eastern Europe after spending the past nine months without a club.
Georgian outfit FC Dinamo Tbilisi announced the arrival of the former England youth international on their Instagram last week, with the Erovnuli Liga getting underway just under a month ago.
Onomah has struggled to get regular football under his belt in the last few years, following a series of unsuccessful moves.
Onomah’s career so far
Onomah is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, and featured 32 times for the North London club’s first-team.
Alongside this, he was also sent out on two loan spells, representing both Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.
The midfielder departed White Hart Lane in 2019, joining Fulham as part of a deal for Ryan Sessegnon.
During a three-and-a-half year stint at Craven Cottage, he scored five goals and provided eight assists in 76 appearances.
With his game time eventually becoming limited in West London, Onomah’s contract was mutually terminated in January 2023, allowing him to join Preston North End as a free agent on a short-term deal.
Despite 13 appearances coming his way for the Lilywhites, an extended contract couldn’t be agreed between the two parties, leaving the ex-Spurs man in the football wilderness for 18 months.
Following an unsuccessful trial period with Stoke City, he headed to Squires Gate on similar terms in the summer of 2024, before being handed a short-term contract by Blackpool on the back of Steve Bruce’s appointment as head coach, having worked with the experienced manager at both Villa and Wednesday.
Despite Onomah’s lack of match fitness, the Seasiders saw enough to offer him extended terms for the second half of last season, but this proved to be unsuccessful for both parties, with injury severely hindering his involvement.
In total, he featured just 18 times in Tangerine in all competitions, providing one goal and one assist, before being released last summer.
