Newcastle United are looking to bounce back from three consecutive Premier League defeats when they face Tottenham Hotspur away on Tuesday evening (7:30pm kick-off).

The Magpies have won just two away games in the Premier League this season while their opponents Spurs have won just two at home.

Ahead of the match, Newcastle had two major injury doubts and several players already ruled out.

Defenders Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth remain out with longer-term problems while Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley were injury doubts ahead of the trip to Spurs.

Brazilian midfielder Joelinton will also miss the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it’s the fifth game he has missed after suffering a groin injury against Aston Villa.

Providing an update on his squad fitness ahead of the trip to London, head coach Eddie Howe said: “Joelinton won't make the game.”

The 29-year-old was given an initial three-week injury recovery timeframe, which if everything has gone according to plan, would put him in contention for the trip to Qarabag next week. But Howe’s latest time-frame update on Joelinton’s recovery was notably more vague as he claimed the player would be out for ‘weeks rather than months’.

Discussing Miley and Gordon, Howe said on Monday: “[Miley] got a nasty bang to his leg, so it was like a sort of a dead leg that's dragged on a little bit longer than we thought. So we'll see how he is.

“Gordon we'll make a check on and see how he's progressing. Hopefully a big improvement in him.”

In addition to Joelinton, Livramento, Schar and Krafth, Miley also misses out due to his leg issue. It’s understood the 19-year-old has suffered a setback in his recovery and will also miss Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Aston Villa.

But there was more positive news on Anthony Gordon as he returns to the matchday squad against Spurs. The winger has been named up front, having missed Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Brentford due to a hamstring injury suffered at Manchester City last week.

NUFC starting XI v Spurs

Howe made four changes from Saturday’s defeat with Jacob Ramsey coming in for Sandro Tonali, Anthony Elanga coming in for Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon replacing Yoane Wissa and Dan Burn coming into the starting line-up in place of Lewis Hall.
