Newcastle are eyeing a surprise summer move for Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster, journalist Craig Hope has revealed.

The Magpies have reportedly earmarked the 37-year-old veteran shot-stopper as a potential market option as they look to bring in a new goalkeeper to complement Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

Forster will leave Tottenham when his contract expires at the end of the month and will be available to sign for free from 1 July, along with teammates Alfie Whiteman and Sergio Reguilon.

The six-cap former England international is reportedly one to 'keep an eye on' in Newcastle’s goalkeeper search, alongside their long-standing target James Trafford.

Newcastle Eyeing Fraser Forster

He is set to depart Tottenham this month

Forster has enjoyed regular playing time for Tottenham amid their injury crisis this season, making 13 appearances across all competitions and keeping two clean sheets.

The 'fantastic' 37-year-old made seven starts in the Premier League, including the heavy 6-3 loss to champions Liverpool in December.

Forster had a seven-year stint with Newcastle early in his career but departed in 2012 without making a single first-team appearance.

He was instead loaned out to the likes of Stockport County, Bristol Rovers, Norwich and Celtic, and was unable to break into the Magpies’ senior squad.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Forster has made 155 career Premier League appearances.

Newcastle announced the signing of Spanish winger Antonio Cordero on a free transfer on Thursday but are expected to loan him out next season.

The 18-year-old forward will join the Magpies on 1 July following the expiry of his contract with Malaga, where he has made 60 senior appearances.

The Magpies are likely to bring in a first-team-ready winger this summer, with West Ham star Mohamed Kudus now emerging as an option.
