Ange Postecoglou could make a sensational return to English football sooner than expected.

The Australian was sacked by Daniel Levy despite winning the Europa League to end Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought.

That was not enough to save his job after a dismal Premier League campaign that saw his side lose 22 times and Tottenham now have Thomas Frank in charge.

However, the ex-Celtic boss could meet his former team when he returns to management, as a comeback to the English top flight has been predicted.

Postecoglou tipped for Premier League return

Postecoglou has been linked with Leeds and Brentford since he departed from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Iconic commentator and Premier League expert Ian Darke believes that we will see the Australian return to the top flight one day, and it could be as early as November.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I can see him getting offers from all around Europe.

“I think there will be a lot of clubs who would look at him and say, you know, he did a fantastic job at Celtic, he has gone to Tottenham, had injury problems and he is a Europa League winner.

“He will not be short of offers, I don’t think, but if he wants to, like all the managers who are sacked in the summer, he can sit around until November in the full knowledge that there are going to be two or three who want to change managers because they start panicking because they are in trouble.

“You are going to see him linked left, right and centre with jobs, he strikes me as the type that wants to be working, he is not the kind of guy who would enjoy a year’s sabbatical like Pep had in New York, I think he will want to get back out there and behind the wheel.

“He would love another crack at it, to give two fingers to the media and the all of the fans who don’t think he can cut it.”

Levy could come to regret Postecoglou sacking

Many observers felt like the decision to part ways with the former Australia defender was harsh after he won the N17 club’s first trophy since 2008.

Levy could come to regret his decision if Frank struggles in his first few months, and especially if Postecoglou returns to England and thrives in a new role.

It remains to seen whether the 59-year-old decides to return to management as quickly as that, but the Tottenham hierarchy may be hoping that he does not.
