Leading 1-0 in a game we’d dominated at Stamford Bridge, Mathys, a bright spark throughout, won possession in our half and took off on a 50-yard run down left, getting away from Josh Acheampong and to the edge of Chelsea’s box, where he side stepped Maxence Lacroix and fired home low for 2-0 with three minutes remaining.
What a way to secure victory!
Speaking to us afterwards at the Bridge, it was put to Roberto that it could be a big moment for the young France forward.
“Yes, but he has to push, to push, to push, to keep going, because he's a talent,” he said. “He has to clean the last 30 metres, the last decision, the last pass, the shot. He has an unbelievable shot.
“I believe in Mathys, maybe more than he believes in himself. I think it's a journey of this club. I think Tottenham is lucky, and me as a coach, I'm lucky, because we have a great group of players, as a quality, but also as a people.
“I think the future of this club can be important if we keep this mentality, these behaviours.”
