Sandro Tonali's poor Tottenham Hotspur form appears to have carried over into his national team.
The Italian moved to Spurs from Newcastle United in the summer for a whopping fee of £100million, signing a bumper long-term contract.
He was joined by Mateus Fernandes, as both midfielders looked set to offer Roberto De Zerbi top-class quality in the middle of the park.
However, Tonali has had mixed form for the Lilywhites, and so far doesn't look like the £100m player that they were promised.
That's not to say he won't turn things around, as the 26-year-old showed signs of a world-class player at times with Newcastle.
Tonali was called up to Italy's squad for their UEFA Nations League matches over the international break, but local media were not happy with his display against Belgium on Friday.
Sandro Tonali 'confusion' explained after 'fish out of water' Italy display
Tonali averages a 6.92 FotMob rating after his first five Premier League matches for Tottenham, which is below par for expectations considering the money that was spent to bring him to N17.
The Italy international didn't get the best score after a 2-0 defeat to Belgium either, as his poor performance resulted in a 6.5 rating.
He won just one ground duel out of an attempted two, making zero aerial duel attempts in the match.
He had a 50 per cent crossing accuracy and made just five passes into the final third.
Tonali had 62 touches of the ball and made 48 passes in total, but did not create a single chance for the Azzurri, which sums up Spurs' current issues in front of goal.
Sky Sports Italy graded Tonali a 5/10 and wrote: "He enters, body and soul, in the full confusion of the blue team. He goes haywire together with the midfield in the first half dominated by Belgium.
"He is not among the best when Italy gives signs of awakening in the second half."
Corriere dello Sport also gave the Spurs man a 5/10 rating, writing: "He makes wood, more than finishing and brushing," which suggests he doesn't do much with the ball.
Finally, Tuttosport gave him an improved 5.5/10 score, but was perhaps the most brutal of all the Italian outlets.
They wrote: "As a midfielder, he looks like a fish out of water: many technical errors for a player of his level."
Sandro Tonali one of four dismal 2/10s, no one above 5/10 - Every Tottenham summer transfer ranked How Tottenham Tonali stacks up vs Newcastle Tonali
Tonali will surely come good at some point, as Tottenham's team of fresh faces continue to find their feet.
But the midfielder is currently underperforming in several areas when comparing his stats for Newcastle last season in the Premier League
He currently creates an average of 0.84 chances per 90 compared to 1.13 last term, despite having 4.4 more touches per game this season.
Tonali made 1.10 interceptions per 90 for the Magpies, but currently only makes 0.84 for the Lilywhites.
He was dispossessed 0.60 times per game for Newcastle, but more than doubles that average for Spurs already.
It's clear that he is currently lacking in confidence, and he needs to find a way out soon.
