Latest Nottingham Forest news as Sean Dyche's Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the City Ground

Sean Dyche says he was keen not to take any risks with Nicolas Dominguez and Matz Sels for Nottingham Forest’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Midfielder Dominguez had impressed on Thursday night when he captained the Reds to victory over Utrecht in the Europa League. However, he was not in the match squad at the City Ground as the hosts saw off Spurs 3-0.

Sels had missed the game in the Netherlands with a groin issue and was also absent for the Sunday lunchtime clash. John Victor stepped in for the Belgian on both occasions and kept a clean-sheet on his Premier League debut.

“Unfortunately he’s got a knee issue,” Dyche said of Dominguez. “It’s nothing serious. We’ve had it scanned.

“His knee blew up with fluid in it. I think it was a cyst on his knee. Because we’ve got these eight days (without a game), we didn’t risk it.

“It was the same with Matz - if it goes worse, then that’s a longer period (out). Dom is the same. We looked at it and said: ‘What do we gain against what do we lose, if it flares up again?’

“We just had to be cautious. That has been a really big challenge for me as a manager.”

Forest now have a bit of a break before they are next in action. They travel to the capital to face Fulham on December 22.

Dyche is hopeful Sels will be able to take up position between the posts for that one. He was pleased with John’s display against Thomas Frank’s side, though.

“We will wait and see how it settles,” the Reds boss said of the goalkeeper’s injury. “He certainly has a better chance than if he had played today.

“John did brilliant, though. Fair play to him, getting a clean-sheet.”
