Simon Jordan is no stranger to controversial comments regarding Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Crystal Palace chairman is close friends with Daniel Levy, and is often asked for his opinion on Tottenham’s dealings when he co-hosts talkSPORT’s early morning show.

Jordan has upset Tottenham fans with his takes on more than one occasion, particularly those regarding Spurs playmaker James Maddison.

And he was at it again on Monday (16 June), after being questioned about the appointment of new manager Thomas Frank.

Jordan apologised to Crystal Palace fans for his comments, although they could be taken as a sly dig at Spurs as well.

Simon Jordan would have hired Glasner as Spurs boss instead of Frank

Thomas Frank was the bookies’ favourite to become the new Tottenham manager from the moment that Ange Postecoglou was sacked.

However, Jordan stated that he would have tried to hire Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner instead.

He said: “I would have gone in the Glasner direction. I’m sorry Crystal Palace fans but I would have gone that way.”

Jordan agreed that Frank would prove to be an upgrade on Postecoglou and that the former Brentford boss has earned his shot at the big time.

However, he went on to suggest that Glasner would have been an even bigger upgrade.

Frank will be judged solely by his results at Tottenham

Jordan’s comments probably won’t mean much to Crystal Palace fans. They have kept hold of their manager, for now at least.

It might be taken as more of a slight by Spurs fans, though, as he suggested that their new manager wasn’t the best man for the job.

In fairness, few pundits have suggested that Frank is a dead cert to be a roaring success in North London. This will be his first opportunity to take charge of a Champions League club. The expectations at a club like Tottenham will far exceed what he experienced at Brentford.

All Frank can do to curb his critics is to deliver results for Tottenham. He looks set to be given the funds necessary to do that.

If he goes on to lead Tottenham to a trophy and a strong performance in the Premier League, Jordan may be forced to apologise again, this time to the Tottenham fanbase.
