While his departure was expected, watching a club legend at another team can take a while to sink in.

After signing for the Lilywhites, it did not take the South Korean long to comment on their supporters.
The 33-year-old joined from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £22milllion in 2015 under Mauricio Pochettino.
“I think Tottenham fans are very football crazy,” Son told Tottenham’s club website in November 2015.
“They love when I fight, or when we fight. It’s unbelievable for me when I come out, all the people stand up and clap for me.”
At the time, nobody could have anticipated the seismic contributions the budding forward would make, and fans flocked to North London to watch him.

Tottenham may have just defeated Arsenal in the United States, but Spurs have struggled against their arch-rivals more times than not of late.
Back in January, in a season that was spiralling into nothingness, the South Korea international was hit hard by the loss to the Gunners.
“I feel for the fans, for the club, because this means so much. It’s very painful,” he told the club website (16 January, 2025).
“It’s already past, so I don’t want to talk about regrets, we just have to be ready for the next games, to keep working hard and believe in what we’re doing, and commit to it, get our winning ways and our confidence back.”
Indeed, Son’s bond with the supporters was and remains strong, but not many would have predicted the campaign would end with a trophy.
Furthermore, with Arsenal ending the season empty-handed, the Europa League title was just that bit sweeter.

It is fair to say it has been an eventful time in North London for the 33-year-old, but it ultimately ended on a high.
