Tottenham Hotspur defender Alice Sombath has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Lilywhites last night.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of Saturday's Barclays Women's Super League fixture against North London rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sombath left the field on a stretcher in the 50th minute and was replaced by Ella Morris.

Sombath's injury has been fully-assessed by the Tottenham Hotspur medical team and it has been confirmed that she has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The player is now expected to miss the remainder of the season as she begins her rehabilitation.

Spurs signed Sombath from French Arkema Première Ligue club OL Lyonnes in the summer for an undisclosed fee. The player arrived in England with plenty of experience of winning trophies. Sombath won 10 trophies at former club OL Lyonnes including five league titles and a UEFA Women's Champions League.

Sombath has made six appearances for the North Londoners in all competitions this season. She made her first league start against Arsenal at the weekend.

Further updates on Sombath's fitness will be provided by Spurs in due course.
