Spurs footballer Pape Sarr has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught out by one of London's 20mph zones.

The 24-year-old Senegal international was at the wheel of a Mercedes G-Class AMG when it was clocked at 25mph in February.

The incident happened just after 2.30pm on February 23, the day after Spurs had been beaten 4-1 by Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Last week, Sarr pleaded guilty to speeding in Green Lanes, near Finsbury Park in Haringey, north London, as his case was dealt with in private in the single justice procedure.

In a behind-closed-doors hearing on Thursday, Magistrate David Marritt, sitting at Bromley Magistrates' Court, disqualified Sarr from driving for the next six months.

The midfielder was also ordered to pay a £666 fine, £130 in prosecution costs, and a £266 victim surcharge.

Court documents show Sarr admitted being the driver when first contacted about the speeding offence by the Metropolitan Police.

He was offered the chance to settle the case out of court with a fixed penalty fine in June but did not pay it, the Met told the court, sparking a full criminal prosecution.

The court documents do not say whether Sarr previously had penalty points on his licence.

The Met's prosecution was allowed to continue despite it submitting unreadable images of Sarr's driving licence to the court.

He did not put forward any mitigation when he submitted his guilty plea in writing, and gave a Tottenham Hotspur official's details to the court as a point of contact.

Sarr has made more than 100 appearances for Spurs since signing for the Premier League side in 2021.

He was sent out on loan to Juventus last month after being squeezed out of the north London side's first team by new signings in midfield.
