Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to follow through on their interest in an England international this summer despite repeatedly expressing their intention to sign him in the past.
According to reports, Thomas Frank is prioritising signing a top-class winger this summer ahead of his first season in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
There has been a lot said and written about Tottenham’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo over the last week, with the Lilywhites battling Man United for the Brentford man’s services.
Additionally, Spurs have also expressed an interest in Antonie Semenyo, but it turns out that one experienced Premier League winger, who was previously on Tottenham’s radar, is no longer considered a target.
Tottenham have done a U-turn on Jack Grealish
It was widely reported that Tottenham tried to sign Jack Grealish in January, with the North Londoners even thought to have spoken to the Man City star’s representatives over a move to N17.
Over the last few weeks, some sources have claimed that Spurs hold a genuine interest in landing Grealish this summer, with the player valued at £50m by Man City.
However, if The Telegraph’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham have abandoned their pursuit of the England international.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The report says that the former Aston Villa man will leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after being told he is surplus to requirements.
Pep Guardiola’s men expect Grealish to attract interest from the Premier League and abroad, but Spurs are not expected to enter the race for his signature.
Could Tottenham’s Grealish decision be down to Thomas Frank?
There is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou would have loved a player like Grealish, with the Australian giving his players the freedom to express themselves on the ball.
However, Frank has a much more system-based approach and prefers direct attackers, as evidenced by the fact that Tottenham are going after Semenyo and Mbeumo.
That is perhaps why the Lilywhites have called off their pursuit of the Man City star. Interestingly, Grealish could now unite with a former Spurs head coach, with The Telegraph claiming that Antonio Conte has shown an interest in taking the player to Napoli.
