Tottenham Hotspur are set to lock horns with several of the biggest clubs in Europe in the Champions League next term after the identities of teams in Pot 1 have been finalised ahead of the draw.
The Lilywhites are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence, and with the competition now in a different format, they are guaranteed to face at least two huge teams in the league phase.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of six English sides to qualify for the tournament, alongside Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
The draw for the League Phase will only take place on Thursday, August 18, but Thomas Frank’s men already have some idea of the kind of sides they will be facing.
Tottenham will face two out of six European giants in the Champions League
The pots for the draw are decided based on UEFA coefficients, with the eight sides with the highest coefficients, plus the winner of last season’s competition, going into Pot One.
Tottenham have explained on their official website that, according to UEFA’s rules, teams from the same country will not face each other in the League Phase, and they also cannot face more than two opponents from the same association.
With three English sides in Pot One (Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea), Spurs are guaranteed to face two of the following six teams from Pot One: PSG, Real Madrid, FC Bayern, Internazionale, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

That means that Tottenham could play PSG twice in a matter of months, with the two sides also set to lock horns in the UEFA Super Cup clash in Udine next month.
What Champions League pot are Spurs in?
Tottenham are set to go into Pot 3, but they could be put into Pot 2 instead if one or both Club Brugge or Benfica do not qualify for the league phase.
Pot 2 currently consists of Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Villarreal, Juventus and Eintracht Frankfurt, with Benfica, Club Brugge, Rangers and Shakhtar Donetsk potentially joining these teams if they qualify for the competition.
That means that there is the tantalising possibility of a North London derby in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
