Tottenham are considering a shock move to appoint current left-back Ben Davies to save them from relegation, according to The Telegraph.

The north London club parted ways with Igor Tudor on Sunday afternoon after just 44 days in charge, following a turgid run of one win in seven games at the club, which has left the club just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League with seven games remaining.

Now the club must search for someone else to lead the team in the final weeks of the campaign, and it has emerged that they may look for someone from within rather than making another external appointment.

Tottenham Consider Shock Ben Davies Appointment

Davies, who has been at Tottenham since 2014, has been sidelined through injury since January due to a serious ankle injury, which he has undergone two operations for.

The Wales international is unlikely to be fit enough to feature again this season, but his experience in the club and within the dressing room has now seen him emerge as a surprise contender for the interim role until the end of the season.

Spurs have been looking to appoint Roberto De Zerbi immediately, but he would prefer to wait until the end of the season to see which league they are playing in before committing his future to them.

Mauricio Pochettino is also a long-term target, but he is committed to managing the United States men's national team at the World Cup this summer, ruling him out of the running for a potential interim spell.

Ben Davies a Huge Gamble

Hiring someone who has no management experience at all while you're in a relegation battle would be a huge gamble, but Davies does have some things going in his favour if he were to be appointed.

The 32-year-old knows the players incredibly well having shared a changing room them all, but he also knows what has been going on behind the scenes already, which means he won't need to have a period of adaptation, unlike someone like Sean Dyche, who has also been linked with the job.
